  • In my previous article/video, I explained how you can hide sensitive data from the user's view. The method I explained there is a simple method, however, for a specific type of user. If you have users who are using Power BI Desktop to create reports on top of your model, and they are going to create DAX measures, then there is a better and more secure way. In this video, I am explaining that method.

In 8:25 you talk about creating the no bidirectional relationship, but single. OK, but the with the CROSSFILTER() function the user can modify this relationship and Access to the hidden indormation, can't he?

Good question. Even in that alternative approach I mentioned, the "Current User Table" still needs to be filtered using RLS. which means even if the user changes it using CrossFilter function in DAX, still it won't reveal any information that the user shouldn't see, because the table is already filtered.

How about hide an entire column to some users? Is that possible?

column level security is not YET available in Power BI. However, considering that now we have XMLA write capability, that is not far away I guess.
