Great video! The Pak Mei Butterfly sword form I know only has a brief section where the blades are flipped and a sequence of weaving stepping forwards while punching forward with the hilts is executed, filing the blade along any guard or obstruction in the way. My take on these sort of flipped sections is that they are best used when the weapon has not been deployed such as they are still paired in their sheathe or I am unable to complete my draw because the quarters are too close so I have to smash my way free to use the weapons. Measure is king in weapons fights, and it seems unlikely that I would, in the middle of an earnest encounter, shorten my reach suddenly "just because."
I think you can find a "useful context" for almost any technique, it just comes down to the likelihood of that context actually occurring, and whether there are better techniques that can be used in that same context. Personally I think the range and manoeuvrability disadvantages outweigh any advantages I can think of, for 99% of likely contexts I can think of, but it's still fun to play around with - and that is itself a useful context!
Awesome explanation and context
Thanks so much!!!
Well that was just flipping wonderful. Short and to the flipping point. ;-)
Glad you flipping liked it 😅

Great video and explanation. Where did you get those trainers from?
Thanks! I actually picked these up from wish.com but I did a little work on them so they would fit together like a single blade.
