Hello Joe, I'm from the US and seriously thinking about attending National Tsing Hua University near Zhudong, or possibly Asia University in Taichung City. I've never been to Taiwan before. Do you know anything about rent prices in these areas or any other helpful info about them?
Hello! I was in zhudong a month or two ago! However only for a visit.. I have never actually lived there or in/near Taichung before. I think Tsinghua University would be a great choice though it has a great reputation! As far as rent goes it will for sure be cheaper once you get out of Taipei. So in Hsinchu or Taichung you could find some pretty nice deals I think. I would say 500USD - 600SD would be more than enough to find a suitable place. Most local students or office workers might consider that to even be too expensive but I think it's not too bad if you want to find a quality place. There are lots of cheaper options however they are sometimes small or old. For a basic 1 bedroom/1 bath kinda set up you are probably looking at anywhere from 9,000TWD to 14,000TWD depending on luxurious you wish to get. You can check out the website (591.com) which is the go-to rental search platform here. Also maybe join the facebook groups that are titled things like (Rooms in Taichung) or (Looking for apartments in Taichung) they will give you a good idea of the market not to mention they are typically more English friendly so less tiring to browse through 哈哈 Good luck on your search! I have some apartment rental tours on this channel but they are in the Taipei area.. so will likely be more expensive compared to what you will find down south 加油！
