I wish I had you five years ago 😬 lol Thank you so much. Better later than never!! My seven year old has been in speech/OT/PT for over two years now. His special education teacher was the first to broach the subject of hand cues for speech sounds, as he has such a difficult time connecting what he hears to what he sees (he doesn't seem to have "true" apraxia of speech, he seems to have an all-inclusive dyspraxia....i think lol). So your channel is fabulous for us. Thank you so much.

Would using hand cues confuse my toddler with the sign language? He’s been doing so well with sign language I’m worried it might confuse him. But want to do everything I can to help him!

If your child is not yet imitating gestures or anything else, how do you get them to do that? My son is 2 and he’s in this boat.

Thank you very much for all your videos! At what age do you recommend to use hand cues? I keep reading that Apraxia cannot be detected until 3 years, is 2.5 too young to work with tactile techniques? Thanks again 💖

I work with my 1-2 year olds on hand cues as long as they are imitating gross motor and fine motor skills first (running, jumping, sneezing, clapping, pinching, etc, etc) :) anything to help the littles!

Would my toddler get confused by the hand cues, thinking it’s a sign language for the object?

    • @TheSpeechScoop

They shouldn’t. Signs are for an entire word, the speech sound hand cues are specifically for individual speech sounds (not a whole word)

Great question! So since signs are used as words & to make requests, they should be the primary form of curing! However, if you’re working on individual speech sounds within words, then you can use the hand cue because you’re targeting articulation (speech sound) vs language (teaching the meaning of the word) I hope that makes sense & lmk if you have more questions!!

Good question! It SHOULDNT! Sign language is for words & these cues are to help w specific sounds! So they are very different ❤️
