I loved the Matrix movies and this has been one of my favorite of the encounter sets. I still probably give a slight edge to X-Files just for the crazy amount of replay ability it provides.
Wow! A Matrix game! I did not know! Exciting! Hey, thanks for all of the great reviews (I still gotta get to your history site. Deep sigh. I LOVE history.) Hey, we have the same taste in games so... When I saw the first Matrix movie I was not a fan. I was pretty down on it. Then, because I had already made the investment in seeing the first one I saw the second and third films. A lot of people backed off after those but for me they made the series and now these films are in my all-time top-ten list (up there with "The Ten Commandments"). I love those movies. Anyway, I hope one day you give'em another shot. Great review! Thank you for doing that. I cannot do the Superthanks thing now, (Inflation is kicking my you know what.) but I will keep it in mind.
I have the aliens one and I like the gameplay a lot. However, I spent more than an hour sorting the cards before actually playing the game because of the way they arrange and cut their sheets of cards. I hope it is improved and not as frustrating now.
The Matrix is easily in my top 3 movies of all time and I don't think The Terminator and the Matrix are similar, they have much different focuses and themes. This game sounds fun though
I view the Matrix movies as an Gnostic allegory on foundational Natural Law and the Sacred Trinity of female (hint! Trinity, emotio), male (Morpheus, ratio), and their synthesis Neo (will, right action) within a narrative of humanity awakening to its inherent potential, transcending illusion and embracing universal truths. Deep sh!t.@@TheDiscriminatingGamer
Wasn't aware there was such a different between Legendary and Legendary Encounters. Been loving Legendary 007, and thought about some of the other Legendary games, Alien Encounters sounds the most interesting, though X-files sounds good too
I am one of the people that actually love the matrix trilogy, now I wanna get this. I wish legendary did a pirates of the Caribbean or a slasher franchise like Halloween or scream
Cody I am a huge Alien IP fan. I loved the first 2 movies mainly. 2 of my all-time favs. I purchased LE Alien and all the expansions back in 2019. Beat all the scenarios and really enjoyed the scenarios. What I didn't love was the card play. The market etc. Just a game of playing your cards and hoping it's enough. Felt like zero strategy to me. So I sold the game. Again, loved the scenarios themselves but not the actual player card side of things. What would you say about the Legendary system appeals to you?
I found Alien Legendary very thematic. I loved how the cards came at you and you didn’t know what they were - just like in the movie (15 meters. 10 meters). I love the story and I love the card play. I love deck builders generally and that is one of the best, IMHO.
Ah man, MM had this on sale a few weeks ago and I recently canceled the order I placed. I love Aeons End New Age and I read a few arguments on BGG as to which is better. I should have given The Matrix a chance though.
Hi Cody ! Many thanks for this new video. I already ordered this game...but now I can't wait anymore to receive and play it 😂😂, it sounds so great !! But now, beware of the "anti-Z agent"😎😎😎 !! Is he in the Matrix or in the real life ?? 🤔🤔
Yeh as a matrix fan I like there art so I might finally get a legendary game. Despite being a big Marvel, Alien, Firefly, Buffy and even x-file fan... Lol
I'm a little surprised that you are finding this game hard. I have played dozens of times (2 and 3 player) and have around a 90% win rate on all the movies and 100% on the first movie. Some conversation on BGG boards seems show others find it easy as well. To me this is the easiest Legendary game since the original Marvel base set. However, nearly every win is just barely in time. It's seldom a breeze to the triumph. It really is challenging at times. So though I find it quite winnable, the challenge is just to the point that it is always an exciting and close win.
I actually found this game quite challenging with numbers higher than 2, so it felt on par with other Legendary games. The only way I could see it being really easy is if you take the first opportunity to end the game with a victory.
Saying Terminator does a better riff on the theme of the Matrix? Lol, glad you're not a movie reviewer or you'd gotten an unsub so fast. Other than being Sci-fi, they have barely nothing in common. :P
Machines achieve sentience, turn on the humans that created them, and try to hunt them to extinction while the remaining humans rally behind the one person who can lead them to victory? They have pretty much *everything* in common.
@@TheDiscriminatingGamer To put it in terms you might understand better, the revolutionary war and WWII were extremely similar because men died over ideological issues!
Terminator and The Matrix do have some things in common. Both are action/sci fi movies and the plot goes around an Ai rebelling against humanity and the humans fighting back. Besides that, both movies have their own and distinct styles, and I love both of them. Totally different movies from a similar concept.
I would love to see Legendary Encounters: Robocop.
Now that would be awesome!
Arguably the most cinematic Legendary game to date. Pretty fun, even for non-Matrix fans.
Indeed.
I loved the Matrix movies and this has been one of my favorite of the encounter sets. I still probably give a slight edge to X-Files just for the crazy amount of replay ability it provides.
X-Files is great, too.
Try being Switch as one of your avatars. I think she has the best ability in the game and might make it a little easier.

Yeah. They don’t organize the decks well in shipping.

It's a great game. I found the themes of man vs machine (AI) in a dystopian setting to be very similar between the two films.

Ooooh! Legendary: A Nightmare on Elm Street. I’d like to see that.

Probably worth checking out The Matrix again if you ever feel like it. But also this sounds like a lot of fun.
Maybe I will. Thanks.
Awesome review😊
Thanks!

Hello from Idaho.

It’s a great game!
I was one of the few that didn’t care for the Matrix film as well. I remember hoping the sequels would help me like it better….. they didn’t 😬
I hear you.

@@TheDiscriminatingGamer YOU WELCOME BE MY GUEST!
the only thing that's stopping me from buying this game its the art :c
I was waiting for that. Seems like there’s always someone who doesn’t care for the Legendary art. I think it looks great myself.

@@TheDiscriminatingGameri mean i love the style of the Alien legendary it suits better but in this case would prefer even movie pics

I must agree with Chris on this one. Very similar themes.
