They did undercut him but at the same time its 4 Sharks. 4 sharks backing you, there's no way you're not gonna be successful. Even if this business fails, which I highly doubt, You have the contacts to 4 amazingly successful people.
Well debatable on having contacts. If the business fails because of these two, then most likely the sharks would not want to do further business with them. Or if there is not much potential to them.
You act like the sharks would continue to speak to them if their business failed. These are not considered "contacts"
4 amazing sharks is true. But the question is, do you need 4 sharks? I've heard the sharks talk on countless occasions about the fact that having more than one shark on a deal means that every time an entrepreneur has a question, you need to run it through each shark's teams because everyone needs to be on the same page. Realistically, with Mark's connection to sports and the affiliation of song and sport, Mark's tech background to help with the software side plus Kevin's affiliation with the wedding industry, they could have easily countered with "We're not looking to give away that much equity. Mark and Kevin, would you consider coming back down to your original offer of 400K for 25% for the both of you?" or "40% is too much equity for us. We would be open to working with fewer sharks for a lower equity amount." and seeing what the sharks come down to. That would've been the better play but it is much easier to say things as an armchair critic than being on the spot.
@@khawajth well said my brother. They really do lack in business perspective hence he can't think of it on the spot and why they need a partner in the 1st place. Bring in daymond is really not necessary but he little bit afraid to said that and the idea of getting 4 sharks really get into him. He really felt the guilt when the shark said he became greedy with his counter offer and afraid he could burn the offer.

I think that too except when I realize how many places they have to be in at once and they don’t have time to put into your business
exactly, they are artists, no way they want to be crunching numbers, running board of directors meetings, execuvtive board members, charity/donations plays, any royalties, big deals with music labels...on and on. Trying to run all of that will crush their creative juices....getting the sharks to each put their crack team on each task....is the way to go.

I would've pushed for that $800k. They devalued the company by 70%, $800k for 40% would've been a $2M valuation
Oh my God the sharks destroyed the valuation. They were at 4 mil when they first came in, and walked away with a 1.25 mil evaluation. Definitely should've stuck to the 800k for 40%
They were at a 44x PE when they came in, still came away with 14x PE. Not shabby for a Services company.
Dudr they got the wedding decor covered, the social/diversity covered, the international covered.
They rather own 60% of millions rather than 100% of a few hundred thousands.
Plus they can focus on the creative work while the sharks handle the business aspect with way more success than they would.. and no competition..

They weren’t at anything when they walked in. They made $45k each in a year. They walked away with 4 sharks and $500k.
Considering they only had 1.8M total sales with a 9% profit margin before paying themselves, a 4M evaluation is a bit high. I agree that he should've stuck to his original 700k offer and then maybe negotiated for 600k in the middle. Sharks were definitely sharky this time.

I remember when Dragons Den first started way back in 2005, how things have changed, now Jones is on the US version and I like it.
$750k to $1.1m sales is ~50% growth. let's assume there's no growth in the upcoming years, $500k for 40% equity is roughly 90% ROI annually. what a wonderful investment for those sharks, great job!
thier margins are 9% before paying themselves, and would be 0% if they did. definitely not 90% roi
They definitely didn't expect that magnitude of a decision to be put on them and got nervous. Probably could have tried to sell the counter better like "we came in asking for 400k for 10% and how about $200k for 10% each shark instead?" etc.
We've thought this countless times since then haha

I've got a feeling they could have got 800k if they stood firm on it. It woulda been 75k extra from each shark & the sharks were drooling over that company.
I'm literally in tears ....I started a business like this years ago.... I did over 60 weddings n personally wrote the songs...I'm 40 n started this after high-school.... I cudnt get no help from family or anybody to make this pop... this was a dream of mine for so long..... I posted some on Instagram from 2012 to 2017 ..Just didn't know how to take it to the next level
