Frank Randle , what a man . Drank at times enough to float his own yacht. George Formby , sadly married a harridan . But they went to S.Africa on tour , and played the coloured audiences , against the wishes of the Govt. WELL DONE them ! They knew what mattered.
There's an excellent docu on Formby and yes he went through hell and high water in S. Africa, they were coming for him to clap him into jail and he escaped by a hair! Gutsy little bugger!
And when the *Prime Minister* of South Africa called to tell them they would be thrown out of the country, the 'harridan' replied "P*** off, you horrible little man!" I can forgive Beryl Formby a lot for that one.
Frank Randel and Norman Wisdom was in Pate mine B, ham Alexandria and as a boy in my teens saw Norman as Boots in Cinderella and Frank was the comedian. Norman retired to the isle if man off the Blackpool coast. and cared for by his daughter until he passed away.
What cracks me up now is, in the US, "fanny" is a polite word for bottom and your mother will use it. While in the UK it's an impolite for some of the inner works .... so, when I was growing up in Hawaii, in the great, glorious Ala Moana Shopping Center, a huge edifice of God knows how many tons of concrete, there was for a long time a store that sold bathing attire that proudly wore the name, in big letters on the front: *FANNY's*
