He broadcast over three thousand times, many of them going out across what was then, the British Empire. His records were printed in Australia, Germany, France, India and Canada as well as here in the UK. He performed for an audience of up to 7000 at any one time in the Tower Ballroom. By the end of his 25th year at the Tower, he had performed live to some 60 million people in the Tower Ballroom alone.
I live in Blackpool. I am from the West Country and my late partner and I came here every year and eventually retired here. Yes, the town has challenges, just like every other village, town and city in the UK, but when people criticise this town, it really upsets me. Most of the derogatory remarks come from southerners who for the most part have never even been here. Lancashire people are the best. And so is Blackpool.
