      But how much fat goes with the 1/4 c of water? Just any amount?

    • @ladycactus110
      @ladycactus110 6 месяцев назад

      @@atarbuck3452pretty much any amount within reason. If you have excess water, put the concoction in a bowl in the fridge. The fat will solidify on top, and you can take it out carefully and pour off the water.

    Took me 6 hours in the slow cooker :P Kept the cracklings to fry up the next day.. mm delicious! By the way.. to get an even more pure lard, after the siv, i either use a cheesecloth or coffee filter to clear out 99.99% of the impurities and have a pure lard.. perfect for French rillettes, or frying food in!

    Frying using pork lard is way healthier than using vegetal oils, and also, it adds more crispiness to the food.

      Great suggestion! 👍 Stainless steel is definitely a sturdy choice for high-heat cooking. I appreciate the tip and will consider showcasing more heat-resistant options in future videos. It's all about finding the right tools for the right job. Thanks for contributing to the conversation and helping us all cook smarter!

      Try adding 2 tablespoons of -Baking soda for every 500g of fat.
      -Wash the raw fat thoroughly before starting the process
      -Cut off and use only the clear white pcs.

    what fat do you use (where on the pig does it come from)? what temp do you boil it at? is it better to use cubed or ground fat? what do you do with the rest of the cubes that could not have possibly rendered completely in 30 minutes? Is lard good for dieters? compared to butter or margarine? not much of a guide without some basic questions answered

      1) From the back or on the kidneys; 1.5) low on slow-cooker, low on stovetop, 250 degrees in oven; 2) I personally prefer cubed; 3) it should take a whole lot longer than 30 minutes but you get some liquid (rendered) fat after 30 minutes-just ladle it out and keep going but watch out that it doesn’t get too hot & burn; 4) animal fats are essential for good health if that’s what you mean by “good for dieters.”Throw all oils except olive & maybe avocado away, never touch “vegetable shortening” or margarine again. I hope you found answers to your questions (which are good questions) already 😊 This video is a little old.

    • @dietplan101
      @dietplan101  3 года назад +2

      Put 1-2 tablespoon of water before heating the pan then pour in the lard, you want the lard to slowly heat up and not burning in the beginning. You can strain and remove the oil once the fat start to turn slightly brown. Continue to heat the remaining fat until it is golden brown, don't mix this with the first batch because it will be slightly yellow/brown. Use low heat all the way.
