Love this book! ruclips.net/user/postUgkxpCNxqmAkyjN6NPx1fyB7QiEFWyO5mUWL it is simply one-of-a-kind! I really love it, because karah explained all tools required to have the job done, not mentioning the fabulous diy pallets ideas. I'm pretty sure this will be a fresh start in my new endeavour. Amazon was great, they delivered on time. Thank you!
You know, the one thing I really love about your wood working videos is your care for safety. I can clearly see you taking extra steps to make sure you are doing things in a way that are oriented towards safety and it’s a pleasant thing to watch. Too often I, as a long time wood worker, see RUclips videos with just an array of bad work habits that should anyone emulate them are likely to result in disaster and injury. So I really appreciate you doing things safely. Well done.
Those boxes with the leather are grandiose. I am thinking your Hubby is beginning to enjoy his creative skills also. Having a loving partner to share in life's hobbies is the ultimate workshop.
Woodwork and leather craftsmanship are a dying art... materials are expensive, but this work is amazing! We need to continue to cultivate it. Great video!
I have watched your videos for several years now. Always liked your aesthetics and how you share your design process with the viewers. This video is your best! It is obvious the time and care you put into the design/build as well as editing. I liked the flashes of August and the doggy. You have a more relaxed pace of delivery lately (speaking). Nice!
Hi, lovely box. It would be cool if you could consider investigating how the victorian writing slopes work, look and function. You could do something more modern in the same way. What is lacking in this box is a surface to write on. The writing slopes has that "problem" solved. Keep up the good work!
Darbin, I am sitting at office now. Working. Then I looked at a beer and decide after duty finished, go for couple of beers in to the shop. Excellent, projects now I got idea for my wife for wooden box. God I got an idea. Thanks ONE MORE TIME.
Lynn, I really like this project. Its so cool looking, and so useful and adaptable to things that just about everyone needs in their lives. And I also wish that you and your family get a few sunny days to get out and enjoy. Thanks for sharing your brain storms with the rest of us mortals out here.
The leather work really transforms those boxes! Its great to see your process of making all the components and putting it together. I've thought some time about getting in to leather working, and your videos on this craft always inspire me to try it out.
These cases came out with the right combination of style and practicality! I like how you pay attention to the use first and how each piece takes on it's own character as it is built!
Beautiful bag. I drill small holes into the top of the ends of the joints, I glue in a bit of brass rod. It’s soft enough to clip flush and sand smooth. I’d also recommend using rivets along the straps as well as the glue.
JESUS CHRIST THESE BOXES ARE STUNNING! OMG! I was researching adding a shoulder strap to a pochade box that I'm making and ran into this video. MAN O MAN, WANT!! I now need a circular saw table and my own shed just to make one of these boxes. LOL j/k. But seriously, this is a seriously grown and sexy box. WELL DONE!!
I love your boxes, they have a fantastic vintage look to them and have a real high quality look. I found it informative and therapeutically relaxing to watch the video of the boxes being made and fitted with the leather leather. You should make more and sell these as your very talented and I’m certain they will sell fast
Very nice. Love the idea of boxes and the leather is a nice touch. My high school woodworking instructor made simple unfinished pine boxes for a Toll painting shop. Very popular.
Oh my god. Thank you so much i was trying to figure out how to make something like this myself and i havent done leather working a ton so i was worried about how to add the leather into it and you literally made exactly what i was picturing! Seeing someone else go thru the steps help a lot
Very nice boxes Linn, Have built a few my self, but the leather is such an awesome addition, really makes it pop... something very classic and nostalgic about it. keep up the great videos and projects. Thanks, from Central OR. woodworker.
You're amazing and truly an inspiration. Thank you for sharing your craftsmanship and appreciation for what you do. I would love to make something half as beautiful.
I've actually been building a three drawer range box for antique muzzleloader rifles out of oak. So far it coming out ok. I'm looking to add some internal organizers and external straps made of leather so I really like the idea of mixing the two medias.
It is really awesome that a woman likes wood and leather working!! It is really unusual to see that. Great work on the bags i really love them makes me think of steam punk and explorers
Linn!!! Where is the picture frame in the box to hold a picture of your greatest project ever !!!! Think of the inspiration you would have, to open the box and see a picture of August smiling back at you !!!
I love the projects that you are making.. Those wood and leather bags are nice case for Raspberry Pi.. with built-in display, keyboard, power supply.. like a laptop powered by the Raspberry Pi..
I can so relate. Oh love your videos. I loved to make books and my father was an amazing wood worker. so these videos are wonderful. From the way you speak, I think its safe to say this... I bet your studio smells AMAZING. I grew up with the smells of wood and still love it. so so much nicer than plastic. HAve you found pyrography yet, for embellishing your projects. Peter Child does fine wire point that will let you have lots of detail to your designs.
Inspiring project! As a painter and illustrator who just started woodworking, I look forward to make myself a beautiful box like this. :-) Thanks for sharing.
I would also add that edge-finishing would add to the finished pieces as well as make them last longer. An edge slick/slicker or burnisher and some gum tragacanth is what you will need.
So Linn, what you are saying is the the inspiration for these boxes came from your Husband. Every Morning he wakes up to timeless eyes and a forever smile. Sounds like an Oak and Leather box project to me :-) Love you all !!!!
Very nice project! I had a thought about the leather inserts - perhaps securing them with velcro or similar rather than contact cement so that you could swap them out in the future if you found another use for them. Would be much easier to get them out then. Thanks for sharing your talents!
Here's a suggestion, why not build a type of swing for baby to raise his view or a type of connection that you can securely hook his seat to, so he can see what mommy and daddy are doing. :) God bless your little family. Forgot duh the boxes are beautiful!
Darbin Orvar when my guys were babies I had a "dynomite" baby seat and they were everywhere with me watching, watching :) I noticed the corner of your workspace, i think all that was there was a table. You could maybe do something there, you'll know lol. My boys loved helping their paw paw in the garage!!
Good stuff... I like your cases a lot. Using synthetic sinew (sin-you) is about the best "thread" for these and other leather projects. It's really tough and doesn't rot while giving a very traditional look. Some minimalistic, tasteful wood burning of trim design or outdoor scenes/animals, depending upon how much exposed wood you leave, would be a pleasant option, which you could even continue into the leather work. The box joint is also known as a "finger joint" as opposed to the dovetail joint. The dovetail is stronger but more complicated and not really necessary, especially if you're covering up the visual esthetic of them. I'm trying to figure out how I want to make more traditional, leather over wood trunks and cases, cir. 1880s-1920s. A time I think was it's pinical, when people were really traveling around thanks to the industrial age being in full bloom yet things were still hand crafted with quality and care. I think starting with a smooth, light yet reinforced case made of steel strap skeletons, Luan, sheet-tin and leather with doubled corners and hand forged brads/fasteners. I just need an old pattern to get me started. 😀
love it! :) i'm taking wood and metalsmithing this semester in school and we had to make a memory box and i used old leather belts for hinges :) so this is timely for me :) thanks!
The woodwork is amazing! The leather work and stitching is just ok. I am guessing the project was starting to get a little old by the end. Some red waxed sinew would have really set off the leather to wood sewing areas. Especially with the brass. When making handles, think more about comfort as that stitch would get very uncomfortable in the field. Tandy leather is where I order my items. Thanks for vid!
Oh wow they are zo lovely !! I wish I had the space and equipment to make something like this. You should sell them!! The only one I know ( in Europe ) who sells writing boxes is Galen leather. This is awesome for artists, stationary lovers and writers.
This is by far the best woodworking book I have ever read, *TopFineWoodworking. Com* . My woodworking teacher endorses it to all of his students. I am impressed how authors managed to write very detailed topics. I`m surprised by the material and didn`t have a tough time following the lessons..
You should be using a Poly or Rawhide Mallet for your punches and setting tools.Metal on metal is not good for your tools. When cutting out slots try using a hole punch and a box knife.I like your projects and ideas. It's nice things from a different angle!
Have you ever seen a leather punch or setting tool that's been damaged by a steel hammer? Me neither. The leather or the surface you're punching against will absorb most of the blow. Unless you're swinging at it like you're driving nails, it shouldn't be a problem.
I have. I was using a regular hammer to hit my rivet setter and it's "mushroomed" over now on top. Then I got wise and bought a poly mallet. Tileman is right.
Your right and wrong...for the guy who asked if you have ever saw a damaged tool from that process all i can do is SMH. YES yes it definitely will mushroom your punches but in this case shes using a brass mallet which is considerably softer metal. Not as good as a rawhide mallet but should do the job.
Thanks for the video. You solved a couple of questions I had about my current project. And those boxes are just lovely. I know what my next project will be. Lol.
Thanks for sharing. I've been looking for some projects where I can couple my leatherwork with some woodwork as well. Plus my girlfriend is an illustrator, it feels like I HAVE to give this a try now!
I am in love with you! Actually your work. I’m new to the leather world and I have a desire to do wood work as well. You have shown me how to combine these two worlds. My granddaughter saw your boxes and was ogling over them. Coming from a 12 year old, that’s pretty good. Thank you.

Isn't the leather wonderful! You should totally try it out!
I really like this format for your videos. Informative, casual and personal.
Each box is a utilitarian piece of art. Beautiful. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Teresa!
It’s so nice to see your family happy, well and creating together. Cheers.
Cheers!
It's been fun watching you find your voice over the past few years. Your current style of videomaking is very unique and enjoyable.
These cases came out with the right combination of style and practicality! I like how you pay attention to the use first and how each piece takes on it's own character as it is built!
Re-watching this as I love your leatherwork, it is not using too many complicated tools and techniques and almost anybody can do it.
Beautiful bag. I drill small holes into the top of the ends of the joints, I glue in a bit of brass rod. It’s soft enough to clip flush and sand smooth. I’d also recommend using rivets along the straps as well as the glue.
wonderful an unbeatable team a loving couple working together..while little angel baby watches mom and dad great video.....highly skilled couple ...
Nice to see your whole family, including baby and pup :) Wonderful project, enjoy .... and share some watercolor with us along the way
Thanks Deb!
Thank you for this lovely video! Love the extra effort you put into the editing and the little bits with your day to day life.

I’m just about speechless...
Those boxes are gorgeous. Well done!
I really like the combination of wood and leather. Very interesting and quite beautiful.
Great projects!

Brilliant ideas and build, well done. Glad to see a little person in the video, won’t be long until those hands will be building things for you. 😊👍🏼😉
Haha, planning on getting him started early :)
Darbin Orvar just me, the time you look around they’re grown up, married with kids and the building continues
!! 😉😊
Building WITH her!😍💞
Magnificent build, love the use of both wood and leather.👍
Superb. There is no other word to describe this project.
Very nice boxes Linn, Have built a few my self, but the leather is such an awesome addition, really makes it pop...
something very classic and nostalgic about it. keep up the great videos and projects. Thanks, from Central OR. woodworker.
Those boxes are the best. I love organization and what's better than boxes with spaces for everything. Good job.
My thoughts exactly:)
I love your pricking irons soo much they're so far apart, creates a awesome look
Beautiful work! I love the combination of leather and wood. Match made in heaven
These bagboxes are amazing! I love them...so personalizable! You're so talented! And I love your dog! 😊
Thank you!

Those turned out very cool. I’ll bet that you get asked by a lot of people where you bought them!
Thanks, Linn.
Thanks Barbara! Not yet, but I would ask if I saw someone with a box like that!
Nice work. I love the Darwin and August shots. These boxes turned out amazing. I love the combo of materials.
Interesting project! You spent a lot of time and money building it! Thank you.

My girls and I loved your video. An amazing project!
Inspiring project! As a painter and illustrator who just started woodworking, I look forward to make myself a beautiful box like this. :-) Thanks for sharing.
can anyone remember when all trunks, luggage, etc. were made from wood n leather ? very elegant n beautiful
Yeah but metals and plastics are so much more efficient
Linn, thanks for sharing. Wish this came up in my feed back in March... I liked the weaving of the elastic band, only sewing on the ends.
Beatiful boxes...and baby, congrats.
Very nice job, finishing leather edges would be nice too.
Thank you for sharing!
Cool workshop and leather working tools. Great presentation!
Very nice wooden handbags Linn! Does have a sort of 1920's feel to it. I could imagine it at a Giza dig! Strong thumbs up.
love the slim box 😍😍😍😍😍
I really like your talent and craftsmanship. Fine work!
Love the idea. I will do the folding camping table like this too.
I love the handheld box
These turned out so lovely! I really enjoy your videos. You're my new fave as I learn how to do woodworking. Thanks again.
Baby!!! You need to give me more baby time, 'cause you're little one is the cutest boo I've seen in a while!
Great job Linn. I love this project.
Try a saddle stitch next time. It looks a lot better on leather goods, and is incredibly strong.
I would also add that edge-finishing would add to the finished pieces as well as make them last longer. An edge slick/slicker or burnisher and some gum tragacanth is what you will need.

I agree, I love that leather strip cutter sound :D
Those are really handy and beautiful ❤🇨🇦

That was so enjoyable and such beautiful boxes. I went and googled where I can do woodworking classes in my area lol
Omg I saw this video today this is amazing!!! You should start selling these, it would make such a wonderful craft box 🥰
Nice box. I like the new format.
I wish these were for sale! I’d buy one, for sure.
Very neat concept! I like how you include a bit of the learning process.
Glad to hear!

Can we buy these boxes ? How much are they ? Beautiful work !!Thank you for posting
Definitely sellable quality.
I am relly glad i found your chanell
I make all my websites with a typewriter. I should definitely switch to squarespace.
Wow! They turned out really nice!!
Great idea Linn.
Thanks Mike!
Very nice. Thanks for sharing.
Really neat project idea!
Very nice work. So much to see and learn. Thank you.
such a handsome retriever you have there.
Great Job. They look fantastic
Love the boxes they came out very well. What type of leather did you use?
Thanks for sharing. I've been looking for some projects where I can couple my leatherwork with some woodwork as well. Plus my girlfriend is an illustrator, it feels like I HAVE to give this a try now!
Great work!
Love your videos Lynn. Not a devout follower, but keep the content coming as I always take the time to catch up. My best to you and yours.
Love the project and the video production was mesmerizing!
Great to hear!
Absolutely beautiful work!
I am in love with you! Actually your work. I’m new to the leather world and I have a desire to do wood work as well. You have shown me how to combine these two worlds. My granddaughter saw your boxes and was ogling over them. Coming from a 12 year old, that’s pretty good. Thank you.
That came out really nice!
Love them!!! I'm planning on making a wood laptop case and you've inspired me to use leather in some way too.
Love the idea of a wood laptop case!
Loved it! Now make a multi-level pencil box for 120 pencil sets! /there’s is nothing great out there for that.
