    It's time to leave the outback and start thinking of heading home. but first, one last stop before the long drive back to the big city.
    I left the Ikara-Flinders Ranges and headed south, down to the ocean for the last camp of this road trip.
    I find a nice, flat and grassy campsite behind the sand dunes, giving me some shelter from the on-shore wind. The ocean was about 1.5km away but I was still able to fall asleep listening to the waves crashing on the beach.
    I go for a walk through the dunes and watch the sun set over the ocean, cook up a pot roast and relax by the campfire before a very long drive home, where Digger was eagerly awaiting my return.
    I'll take him with me next time. I missed him very much...and it seems many of you did too.
    he has become the star of the show!
    I hope you enjoy!
    Frank

There was also a massive Wedged Tailed Eagle by the side of the road just a little further down from the deer but I wasn't quick enough with the camera, amazing animals! Fabulous sunset - one of my all time favourite activities is to be there as the sun sets and the ocean waves are rolling in and out. This was a great series to watch, even if the beautiful Digger wasn't able to come along. I'm grounded at the moment as my own minivan camper has just passed away ... so watching your back catalogue during the Christmas/NY break has been especially nice. (At least it got me home from a day trip I'd taken - and only just!) You're a fabulous cook - clearly a passion?
    Hoping you and Digger had a fine time over the festive season and wishing you the best for the coming year - especially hoping your channel grows as it deserves to.

    Eugene, Oregon.
    2003, we converted a 1996 Ford CF8000 commercial truck to our concept of an ExpeditionVehicle.
    For water, we use retired stainless-steel five-gallon Pepsi kegs.
    Engineered to be pressurized, a quick puff from a 12v bicycle tire pump gives water flowing from a re-purposed kitchen-sink sprayer.
    .
    For showers, we use a dedicated three-gallon 'Torpedo' keg.
    We heat water using a 'sous vide' circulation heater designed to hold cooking water at a designated temperature.
    .
    Our standard load is seven kegs, a total of thirty-five gallons.
    * Modular, we can add any amount of kegs for a longer stay.
    * A couple-three kegs can go to town for re-fill while the others stay in camp.
    * If one keg gets stanky, it is isolated and the other kegs can clean it.
    * We move a keg to the picnic-table or campfire.
    * A keg can be loaned to a caravan chum.
    .
    In the toy-hauler we fabricated on a similar commercial chassis, we can carry a couple-three dozen more kegs.
    In theory, our duration could be four months without re-fill of drinking water.

    • @4X4CA
      @4X4CA  Год назад

      Wow! that sounds like a serious rig! I like the idea of using a sous vide for temperature control...very clever. It's good you can be self sufficient for several months, there's a nice sense of freedom that comes with that. I think it's time I upgrade my set up to a camper trailer. Now that I go so often..and have so much kit...I don't like having to cram it all in the back of the ute. even when organised, its still messy.
      Do you have any toys in the toy hauler??

    • @4X4CA
      @4X4CA  Год назад

      Cheers, Chris! I'm not sure what your asking. Do you mean, did I pack my panty stuff away while I was exploring that off road track? yes, I kept the food in the truck with me. I didn't want it sitting in the sun, so I kept it in the car with the a/c...plus I could make some lunch and have food with me if I got stuck. I don't know what "right dressed" means? food storage is a little difficult on the road trip...I really need to upgrade to a camper trailer so I can be more organised. My usual videos of just overnighters is ok but any longer than two nights means I have to cram everything in, which I don't like.

      @@4X4CA right dressed means, nice and straight as in soldiers lined up on parade. Your pantry (Not Panty! Check eco your spelling! Haha!) looks neat and tidy, “right dressed” i imagine it wouldn’t stay like that going over the tracks you travel when you pull up and open the door. I just just recently bought am ex military trailer from the auction to do up as a camper trailer. The prices of camper trailer are too costly for what they are.
