  • Finals days of Monmouth Mall in Eatontown New Jersey. Kushner Company is about to make it's biggest makeover yet with the redevelopment of Monmouth Mall.
Join me in this video as I explore the ins and outs, backrooms and everything that left and NOT LEFT inside the Monmouth Mall. Some parts are already demolished, the interior has suffered flooding, what is left and what is staying?
Kushner Companies are getting ready and moving fast on the redevelopment to what will be dubbed Monmouth Square and Monmouth Village apartments! A massive project that includes a complete overhaul and destruction of Monmouth Mall. Let's find out what it will look like.....and.....will things get worse before they get better?!!?

Hung out there as a kid in front of the old Sam Goody's. Was good times back then.

Sad. Definitely sad. They're taking the spirit out of the place by making it outdoor again. An indoor mall was cozy - a place to relax and have a day during the winter. A place to cool off during the heat of summer. Not any more. Now it will be "bring your money or get out."

You took the words right out of my mouth! That’s why I never will understand why they are closing indoor malls and making them outdoor. The whole purpose is to shop indoors during hot or cold or rainy days and have all your retailers be available at once!

I remember this as open-air Monmouth Shopping Center in the 60’s and early 70’s, Bamberger’s and SS Kresge 5&10. Then the big expansion and enclosure. And now back to its roots.

Wow that’s wild to be able to see it through all the changes! I can’t wait to see what it will look like especially if they have public recreation spaces as promised. Like a trail or a park I think it said it was supposed to include as well. Also curious if the Macys and Boscov’s will actually stay!!

@@explore.evermore I frequented this mall due to reasons of me needing to be in the area and can say after talking to the folks over at Boscov's that it will remain as a business but become totally separate as a building after demolition. Macy's being at the other end may have a similar fate.

roots that nobody asked or wanted to return. I hate malls as is, but outdoor ones are a special type of miserable.

Oh my God, I can’t shut up but building apartments there? Nobody wants to live in apartments there. I mean, I can’t understand it. There’s nothing special about that part of Eatontown. And I bet the apartments will be extremely expensive. Nobody is going to want live there. Don’t get me wrong. I love Eatontown and I grew up there. I think it’s an awesome place, but nobody’s going to want to buy these ridiculous probably very expensive apartments in that annoying area right there by the mall. 🤦 You have Route 35 and Route 36 intersecting right there, it’s one of the most annoying places in the entire state. Nobody wants to live there, you gotta be kidding me. I guess we’ll see in the next few years, but I think it’s stupid. I think they are making a big mistake.

2:10 There is a warning sign there was asbestos in the building? You gotta be kidding me. I hung out at that mall my entire life until I was like 25. I’m 45 now.

boscov's did start out as A&S from the late 70's up to 1995 after the federated/macy's merger ended that branding

Oh wow, that’s interesting…I had no idea!…..all I know is that Boscov’s seems to be doing very well compared to Macys. I’ve visited several of their locations and they seem to be up-branding (meaning buying and selling more upscale brands) and unfortunately blanding their stores by removing the retro neon look. Which is sad, because that’s what initially attracted me to shop there more in the first place. Thanks for the info 👍❤️

To clarify the above comment. Boscov's is an independent department store, They took the empty A&S location. The company is not connected in any way to Macy*s/Federated.

I worked at that boscov's at one point. It had closed and then opened up again in 2011 but downstairs, I remember at some point there was a Burlington coat factory and I'm pretty sure as some other time there was a Best buy or a store like that. I used to go to the small way back before the freehold raceway Mall opened. By the way freehold raceway Mall is still doing well. Such a shame what happened to this mall.

Thanks for sharing! I didn’t know Boscov’s closed then reopened! Yes freehold seems very busy but unfortunately for Woodbridge Center…its fate looks similar to Monmouth. Rumors are it will either be a medical facility or a redevelopment like this one, depending on the bidder. Or both. It really is a shame, and I still don’t understand why indoor malls are dying. We need them!

Boscov's had a bankruptcy and closed some locations, the Monmouth Mall being one of them. They reopened there when their finances improved.

That place next to Champs was a Hot Topic, the yellow place next to that was a Lids

That’s right! Does Champs and Lids still exist? I’m curious what’s happening to all the indoor mall stores.
