Bought a "boot dagger" from a surplus last time, thinking it could be a good throwing knife. Well it works at small distances cause it is really too light to be thrown properly imo. The rubber grip is surviving well, though. Only downside is it has double edges, so last time I threw it without really thinking and ended up with a cut on my index finger... Ordered a second (real throwing knife) later (muela pro throw). Much better.
Oh yeah, 15 years old and it bounced back (we called it a “splang” because of the sound). Tried to catch it and it went bad. “Step back” technique is definitely best.
You covered most of what I experienced, the one thing that I did experience that wasn't covered was when throwing with multiple individuals you should make sure that they will not be throwing when you go to retrieve your knives. Yes sounds obvious but I have had a knife pass me by and while it was being thrown at a different target that person should have been clear not to throw while people were retrieving their knives. But as this should fall under situation awareness of surroundings you mentioned I just thought to mention it because people have to be careful not only to avoid injuries to themselves but others around them. I fully enjoyed this video safety is often overlooked people see wow that is cool and don't understand that which was basically me years ago learning from cuts, too bad I didn't come across someone like you who was passionate about throwing and teaching such skills.
John, you are so right! I have not had a close call with someone throwing close to me. I have been hit by ricochets from others because I had not been paying attention to their throws. Watching the release but being too casual about not watching where the knife was going. If you are in ricochet range watch out for your buddies throw!
I have only been throwing for a little over a month now. I find its an incredible way to clear my head. I started with 1/2 spin, and measured out just 2 meters. I didn't have any kind of marker so I just used a short piece of 4x4 wood. That piece of 4x4 has taken 4 or 5 rebounds, stopping them from hitting my feet. Amazing videos, and so helpful. Thank you Adam!
I'm older and enjoyed throwing stars in the 80's. I recently got a set of throwing knives. Thank you for the great content. I've gotten a lot of great advice from you. To a greater extent, I truly appreciate this video. This says much about you. You are a great ambassador for the sport. Prayers and best wishes, thanks again!
I started throwing with 60g knives , it rebounced to me and i tryed to stop it with the foot (i was with socks) it was little little painfull but nothing dangerous, but i learned that if i was using a better knife, the pain should be more... And the second time, my bad knife was rouined and i cut myself with the rouined part... The third time is with the wood when i tryed to extract the knife. Now i dont make this mistakes anymore... And when a beginner wants to throw, should not stay in front of the targhet but just a little bit on the left ight; the rebounce will go in the opponent side. Good video great master!
Thanks for another great video. It's worth keeping in mind that as well as strain injuries, bad throwing and safety habits can form as fatigue sets in during long sessions. I've found it really pays well to go for quality over quantity when practicing.
Cold Steel Perfect Balance Thrower...12 inch... Had a ricochet the evening of Breaking Bad, Ozymandias...when it was on it's original run, a Sunday night. Summer, so sun was till out, but it was getting dark...wanted to get some throwing in before the show so backyard, throw, throw, throw, throw... Wife called and said Breaking Bad was about to start...I began to walk back inside, but that voice in my head said, "One more throw, man!!!" That throw came back at me and, cuz I broke your second rule, the tip embedded right in my left inside ankle...BAD! Was wearing house shoes...not good for throwing, you're right. Managed to wrap the wound really tight with my t-shirt then humbly crawl up the stairs on my butt...bathroom, gauze, peroxide, LOTS OF TAPE! Bandaged myself up while watching Breaking Bad all the while, my wife thinking I'm an idiot. And in this case, she was right! Only throw with solid boots on now!
Hello Adam. I have been throwing since I watched one of your videos about five or so years ago. The worse injury I have ever gotten throwing, I had my edc clipped to my pocket and the blade opened while I was throwing a knife. On the follow thru, my wrist went straight across my freshly sharpened edc. There was a lot of blood and it went into my wrist very deep and severed a large blood vessel, luckily I am ok and now I have a nice scar to remind me to NEVER throw a knife while a folding edc is clipped to my pocket.
Glad you´re ok now!! ... My take: I actually always have an EDC folderr clipped to my pocket, also when throwing - but I pretty much exclusively carry such with a locktype that ensures a good "self closing": Which would mainly be a good mid backlock, like on a Spyderco Endura for example. Linerlocks, compression locks and especially Benchmades Axxis lock are much more likely to come open in pocket and then REMAIN open, while a good backlock really sucks the blade into the handle.
After 5 years of throwing I've hade some pretty scary riccos, but luckily nothing ever struck. But that's the number one thing to look after for beginners! And like Adam said, never wear crocks....
(Comment before releas of the vid): Oh man... I do have several "throwing knife scars" - on the hands, the shin, and one pretty fresh scratch even on the belly 😁 Said it in another comment already: Just a few weeks ago I had planned to do a week of skitouring / backcountry skiing. But then a rebounding Top Dog hit me in the shin... no way I could wear ski boots after that for several days, so NO skiing,,, but , hey, the fun and enjoyment knife throwing brings is more than worth such little downsides...🙂 Thanks once more, Adam, you and your vids are the main factor why I even realized and learned what can be done with throwing knives and how much fun it is!! Way to go!
@@AdamCeladin Not always easy to stay completely safe if one is like me... I almost always try to throw with full force, since I often don´t know how hard my "natural targets" (tree stumps and the like) might be and want the kniife to stick. And I am not good enough yet to keep more distance when practicing no reload... That combo can lead to some "rebound hits"...😉
Yup, I had a feeling rebounding knives was going to be the first one😁 I tried to dodge but it hit my foot anyways. I was wearing well padded hiking boots so all I got was a bruise. Thanks for the video Adam 👍👍

My Raven ll knives came in…and wow…unbelievable. Easily top 3 favorite thrower. It’s a close call between Top Dog from wulflund and these Raven ll. Highly recommend people go check out the Raven series from AceJet. They are having a great sale going on right now
Hey adam, random fan here. I was going to get some throwing knifes after I broke a normal knife. I was thinking about getting the Gil Hibben Gen. 2 knifes that you suggested. Are there any better knifes for beginners? Thanks.
I'd add, if you're a beginner or your reflexes are slower (due to age or otherwise) you can cushion the top of the target in various ways to avoid the most powerful rebounds. There's almost no way for a knife to bounce and retain a lot of power (beyond very short distances) without that top edge of wood. It's obviously more maintenance for the target, but that can definitely be a worthwhile tradeoff
One thing you missed was: Don't throw knives when you're in a bad mood. :D Seriously though, throwing when you're in a bad mood can make you throw recklessly. Also, don't through when under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. I haven't thrown when drunk or high because I'm uner 21. lol
I would say this point is well advised. However, I have to say I have done it myself. After having thrown knives over the years, it has been very theraputic/stress relieving for times when I have been upset. But point of caution: I always make sure to be careful and in a rational headspace; where I know I will throw in a controlled manner.

I’d like to see some big kitchen knives and cleavers thrown by Celadin The Legend. They look and sound so cool when thrown. Sorry if this already exists, but if not, please make that happen in the future if possible!
Hey Adam, now I have a question on the Osetr too.. despite this is a bit off topic: - I actually prefer the Top Dog style tip over the Arrow style tip - When you look at the Top Dog tip from "above", so on the spine, the blade stock thickness does not change at all, just at the very tip, while the Arrow tip is more shaped from all sides, a bit more like a nail or needle. - Now does the Osetr tip look like the one on the Top Dog or rather like the Arrow tip? I´d like to try the Osetr, but if it does not have that tip I´d still rather get another Top Dog instead - Hope this is not too confusing, English is not my first language...
just discovered this channel from your shad response, i feel like I wanna get into this hobby (even though Australia probably has huge rules on weapons). what's the opinion on using gloves for protection?
For beginners and especially very young beginners it would be wise to use safety glasses. As a beginner you are starting from very close distance and not yet familiar with how dangerous ricochets can be. Cuts and bruises are going to happen to the rest of the body and will heal but the eyes.....be careful.
A way you can hurt yourself is if you throw a knife into the target too hard and trying to get it out you act incautiously, often because you are using the wrong kind of target or just being a bell end. I've seen it happen with knives and axes. The amount of ways people can injure themselves with simple tasks is ridiculous. For newer knife throwers, I'd probably suggest a straw backed target, that way you get fewer rebounds and it's not as hard to get out. Which is also easier on your body in the long run. So you can simply focus on your technique.
@@AdamCeladin You do a great job. Something I am curious about is if you can throw a knife from an icepick or unorthodox grip? I don't think I've seen anyone address it and considering you are a world champion, you would be the best person to confirm or deny. I was thinking about it because it is a way many people are trained to use a knife for combatives. I know you can perform what I was always taught was a "flat throw" with a shuriken out of the bottom of the hand but I'd be interested to see a video on unorthodox/icepick/what have you throwing styles.
Also, throwing at night or dusk where the target is not very visible. (The benefit of throwing at night is for more experienced throwers , you develop better feel for the knife and release.)
wow did you stomp on snake?! :D .....I lost few. my knives goes everywhere around in forest. I found place under small hill side and I use xmass present strings tied to my knives, they are light and in shiny reflective nonforest colors ;) got knives with holes, sometimes it ruins my slide out of hand anyway tho
Hello my friend the main reason i spend 2000 euros on good pro knives is because 3 years ago i was learning how 2 throw and the cheap knive i was using bounce in the upper corner as u said in the start of the video and came straight 2 my head!i was saved beacuse of my good reflexes and scared 2 death!!!!!!!believe adam my friends and buy good knives !!!good knives dont rebounce so fast !i dont know..its the steel its the weight its the shape i bellieve cheap steel has more tension like a spring!!!becarefull my brothers!!!!!
Hey Adam, do you have any tips, I have been trying to get a hang of my Osetr knives, but I just can't get the consistency I get with Vengeance. Also two Videos this week, we must be lucky.
I am certainly not Adam, but perhaps the input from an at best intermediate can help a bit too? - If you´re talking about no spin: - I assume the Osetr is more center balanced and less handle heavy than the Vengeance plus you are probably using the flat side of the spine for release (and not the very curved one) - while the Vengeance has that gentle curve in the spine that acts a bit as "trigger" for the index finger in no spin throwing - All of that means, that compared to the Vengeance you probably have to (again, with no spin!) 1.) Release the Osetr a bit earlier and/or 2.) Release it in an a bit more upright / vertical position (tip pointing more upwards) and/or 3.) give a bit more impulse with the finger on the spine... Hope that this might perhaps help a bit... ?
I've once had a knife ricochet right into my forehead. No serious damage but lots of blood. I still feel kinda scared of throwing knifes to this day :P I definately have a little trauma
Throwing too much…When I started throwing chopsticks I did it way too hard for too long. I had tremors in my hand and my shoulder blades ached for a couple of days. I learned to relax eventually 😉
I had two small incidents for now. First was a rebounce hit in the knee from maybe 3 meters and second was when i playing with the knife and turning it into the hand i grabbed it for the point and get stabbed
I got hit twice so far. Now I try standing a bit to the side of the target esp. if I am throwing from a close distance with some new technique that leads to many mistakes (meaning, poor angle and a bounce). I know that the knife can still bounce back at any angle, but if I am a bit to the side, the bounce is more likely to be not directly back at me. My yard slopes down. So, when I am coming down while carrying the knives, I make sure they point away from me and I don't hold them in front of me. In case I accidentally trip, I don't want to fall on top of a pointed knife.
I believe covered it all sweet blades 👍 they kind of remind me of the ace jet Finn I just got 👍 by the way awesome blades 😎 love all the knives I have gotten from you guys keep it up my friend 😎🔪🔪🔪
Also, if you are moving a random door in the woods you might fall into the hole it was covering and bust your ribs. I personally would have checked for spiders before picking it up.
11. Throwing knives indoors and accidentally damaging the furniture or walls, or spending too much on custom knives, can get you really hurt by your wife or girlfriend? 😅
I'm guilty of throwing barefoot and stupidly kicked a knife when it came back at me and poked the top of my foot, not too serious of an injury but boy did I feel stupid. One recommendation I have is when retrieving your knives to start high to low because if your retrieving a knife that is low a higher knife can come loose and fall on you.
IDK how much throwing is too much throwing. My right arm hurts all over so I started to throw switch but I don't want to stop to let it heal back to full. I just started throwing a week ago so I'm still in the " This is the greatest thing since toilet paper" phase.
I've been stabbed in the arm,leg and had one Stand straight up when i stuck one in my Steel toed Boot 🥾, ever since Ive tried to wear some long pants and boots,at least while throwing!!! Hey,get stuck a few times, and then SAFETY will actually mean something to you !!! 🔪🎯🤔😉🤙
about rebounding: rebounding knife has much slower velocity than normal speed of throwing. if rebounding can be hard to dodge, imagine dodging a knife flying at you by deliberately throwing by expert.
One time, I was throwing an acejet stinger into a log on the ground because I was bored and it bounced up and hit my thigh almost hitting my.... you know what. heh
Story.... A friend broke his kneecap, scraped all the skin off his shins, cos of avoiding a ricochet blade.. Throwing knives whilst on a wall would play an important role to such accidents.. When ninja movies should stay on screen, he wanted some tiktok skill uploaded.. Only he uploaded himself on a gurney, in hospital & no tiktok... Now, he too fears walls, oh 🤔 & bouncing objects... I guess, lesson learned..
also I've done all of these. I still throw in flip flops, but I've had the knife go into my foot. Now I just practice my dance moves when I see it rebounding.
Oh so you mean that throwing knives ARE more dangerous to the user and less affective than most other weapons unlike you were arguing the other day? 🤔 hmm. I see.
Don´t want to pick a fight, so no offense! But : 1.) I am just an intermediate thrower at best. But I can assure you: Even I would bee pretty "effective" and "dangerous" already if i ever used good, heavy throwing knives like a Top Dog as a weapon - especially if you give me three or four of those! - I´d say up to distances of like 7 or 8 meters In his response to Shad imo Adam did not even fully show HOW effective it can be to throw more than one knife very quickly. Does not even have to be no reload, if I just hold four knives in my left and throw one after the other with my right hand as fast as I can: I think no one could realistically dodge or even block that, and the impacts are much more powerful than any stab could ever be 2.) No, especially in a hypothetical fight throwing knives would be not dangerous to the user. Ricochets are very rare anyway, and not an issue if one threw at a person (something I actually don´t even want to imagine). If you have any questions feel free to ask, and I´ll try to help as good as I can
@@wartstein8814 finally someone who's giving good points and not just being defensive about their opinion. So in response I'd like to point out the fact that shields, not only exist, but were very prominent in warfare especially. So ricochet can and will have happened. And also your first point basically equates to "if you give me the best possible conditions in which to use this item specifically then it's viable". And if you happen to be camped out when an attack happens then what? "Hold on guys let me pull out my 4 knives and hold em in my left so I can be ready to throw super fast" whereas if you have a sword you draw it once and have a weapon for the whole battle ideally. At the end of the day, anyone can defend the usefulness of throwing knives all they want but they are an equipment item more than a weapon. Just like a tankard, once emptied of its beer of course, can still be used to bludgeon someone 🤷♂️

So you can simply focus on your technique.
yes i speak about this point in my video thank you for your comment my friend
Great video, everything happened to me in my first year of knife throwing :)
Next video: 10 ways to lose your knife during forest session.
Number 1 using a black shuriken I had one hit the edge of the target it disappeared into the shadows never to be found again.
Haha good idea my friend :)) stay safe
I like this video idea quite a lot as well.
wow did you stomp on snake?! :D .....I lost few. my knives goes everywhere around in forest. I found place under small hill side and I use xmass present strings tied to my knives, they are light and in shiny reflective nonforest colors ;) got knives with holes, sometimes it ruins my slide out of hand anyway tho
When I first started I was standing to close to the target wont do that again but that's when I was 10 or 12 stay safe to my friend 😎🔪🔪🔪🎯
You too my friend :))
Thank you my friend!
Can you make a video about no spin throwing because I am not doing well with that.
What about it ? i have many tutorials ,)
Hey Adam, do you have any tips, I have been trying to get a hang of my Osetr knives, but I just can't get the consistency I get with Vengeance. Also two Videos this week, we must be lucky.
Osetr is more difficult to throw compare to Vengeance i would have to see you in order to give you advice
I am certainly not Adam, but perhaps the input from an at best intermediate can help a bit too?
- If you´re talking about no spin:
- I assume the Osetr is more center balanced and less handle heavy than the Vengeance plus you are probably using the flat side of the spine for release (and not the very curved one) - while the Vengeance has that gentle curve in the spine that acts a bit as "trigger" for the index finger in no spin throwing
- All of that means, that compared to the Vengeance you probably have to (again, with no spin!) 1.) Release the Osetr a bit earlier and/or 2.) Release it in an a bit more upright / vertical position (tip pointing more upwards) and/or 3.) give a bit more impulse with the finger on the spine...
Hope that this might perhaps help a bit... ?
@@wartstein8814 Thanks for the advice, I will definitely try your ideas
@@GintautasG You are very welcome and I hope it helps...
new to the channel. great info!
Thank you my friend 😎
I've once had a knife ricochet right into my forehead. No serious damage but lots of blood. I still feel kinda scared of throwing knifes to this day :P I definately have a little trauma
stay safe my friend
throwing barefoot can be good for your form because you feel more connected with the ground. I find it to be a risk worth taking.
donde compras todas esas cosas amigo
Throwing too much…When I started throwing chopsticks I did it way too hard for too long. I had tremors in my hand and my shoulder blades ached for a couple of days. I learned to relax eventually 😉
Awesome Zac :))
I had two small incidents for now. First was a rebounce hit in the knee from maybe 3 meters and second was when i playing with the knife and turning it into the hand i grabbed it for the point and get stabbed
ufff stay safe Ivo
@@AdamCeladin Thanks Adam, i am alert for these kind of things now
Baledog make cokor bisa teu? Coba hayooo mang adam.
Thank you very much Chris :))
Also, if you are moving a random door in the woods you might fall into the hole it was covering and bust your ribs. I personally would have checked for spiders before picking it up.
That happend to me 😅🙏 almost broke my ribs and fell Down
11. Throwing knives indoors and accidentally damaging the furniture or walls, or spending too much on custom knives, can get you really hurt by your wife or girlfriend? 😅
is it a bad idea to throw at night?
If you dont want to loose your knives :D i would not do it :D
Man, your hair is getting crazy long! Looking good brother. Hope you’re doing well.
Thank you Marcus, hope all is good on your side as well :))
Man, I have wood tree stumps I throw at and sometimes I shoot wood shards 7 meters! Almost took my kids eye out
I'm guilty of throwing barefoot and stupidly kicked a knife when it came back at me and poked the top of my foot, not too serious of an injury but boy did I feel stupid. One recommendation I have is when retrieving your knives to start high to low because if your retrieving a knife that is low a higher knife can come loose and fall on you.
Something like that happened to me with the blade hitting another blade just instead of getting cut i got burned from the friction that was created
Trying to toss the knife from my foot to my hand. And catching the tips straight in the palm.
Onetime had a tomahawk rebound and hit my leg, good thing i was wearing long pants that day lol.
looking forward to the vido, great idea for a topic!
Stay Safe James see you soon
IDK how much throwing is too much throwing. My right arm hurts all over so I started to throw switch but I don't want to stop to let it heal back to full. I just started throwing a week ago so I'm still in the " This is the greatest thing since toilet paper" phase.
I've been stabbed in the arm,leg and had one Stand straight up when i stuck one in my Steel toed Boot 🥾, ever since Ive tried to wear some long pants and boots,at least while throwing!!! Hey,get stuck a few times, and then SAFETY will actually mean something to you !!! 🔪🎯🤔😉🤙
Amen brother thank you for your comment
about rebounding: rebounding knife has much slower velocity than normal speed of throwing. if rebounding can be hard to dodge, imagine dodging a knife flying at you by deliberately throwing by expert.
I already went through that. for that reason now I wear shoes🤣⚔🗡👊😀
Stay safe bro :D
#11 , dont throw knives with long holes them because theyvare prone to shatter and fly in random ditections 🤕
One time, I was throwing an acejet stinger into a log on the ground because I was bored and it bounced up and hit my thigh almost hitting my.... you know what. heh
that's why you don't stand to close
so far, i haven't needed to get stitches...yet
Uffff yes i will speak about ricochets in my first point !!! they are scary
⚒️☠️☮️
🙂👍
Rushing to pull knives out and falling, tugging knives out of the stump. Throwing with idiots around you.
Had burrs and even took a knife in the thigh, not deep but still not fun
I know a dude who cut he's hear when he trow kives.
Lol you always have that little kunai on you
Uu
I'm one of those barefoot knife throwing weirdos, I just need new socks I swear.
AYO I BUSTED TWICE
just kidding
do you always have the cheap kunais in your pocket? lol
also I've done all of these. I still throw in flip flops, but I've had the knife go into my foot. Now I just practice my dance moves when I see it rebounding.
Adam Celadin, are you a muslim?
Why you ask? Wtf?
Oh so you mean that throwing knives ARE more dangerous to the user and less affective than most other weapons unlike you were arguing the other day? 🤔 hmm. I see.
Ehmm no... 😅🙏They are only Dangerous if you dont know what you are doing.. Something like Shad Showed in his video,)
@@AdamCeladin OK so to quote you "ehmm no... what you said is correct.. as shown in shads video." Got it. Thanks. 👍
@@MartinCancholaJr Go back to watch anime little fan boy kid you gonna learn a lot with Shad :D haha
Don´t want to pick a fight, so no offense! But :
1.) I am just an intermediate thrower at best. But I can assure you: Even I would bee pretty "effective" and "dangerous" already if i ever used good, heavy throwing knives like a Top Dog as a weapon - especially if you give me three or four of those! - I´d say up to distances of like 7 or 8 meters
In his response to Shad imo Adam did not even fully show HOW effective it can be to throw more than one knife very quickly. Does not even have to be no reload, if I just hold four knives in my left and throw one after the other with my right hand as fast as I can: I think no one could realistically dodge or even block that, and the impacts are much more powerful than any stab could ever be
2.) No, especially in a hypothetical fight throwing knives would be not dangerous to the user.
