- This video demonstrates winding the toroid for the 1 to 1 balun to build a 10, 20, 40 meter linked dipole for ham radio bands. I am using the CaHR Mercury Antenna Kit.
The principals and materials here apply to various antenna builds you can experiment with. I chose to go with the CaHR Mercury kit to give me a jump start.

Thanks for sharing this video, 30 years ago I home brewed an inverted multi band dipole but not linked. Therefore I learned something new in your video.

This was my first....
I have been living fear in of Toroids really appreciate you sharing this video and information.

LOL, they do seem intimidating. The larger ones like this are really not too bad to wind.
Thank you! and thumbs up!!!
Lol love your introduction great video 👍⚛
You were right.
You can't say I didn't warn you.....
@HOA Ham Oh, you thought I was talking about the intro 😂 - Videos like this need to be done. Its how we help new hams learn!
Awesome job HOA 👍
Yawn on this one Ape. Winding a toroid, boring no matter how you slice it. However, when I first wanted to learn, I watch the vids beginning to end.
Seems like the / a key to good wraps is bending (the wire around the toroid corners) and pressure (to flatten the wire) on each face, not so much the tension.
That matches my limited experience. Thanks for watching and commenting Steve.
New ham. Why a wrapped torrid? What's it do? Why not just split the wire and ground to shield?
@@WECB640 thanks! Great answer. I had just been doing the 49:1 wrap for EFHW and understand that but I guess I thought the beauty of a dipole came in it was 2 wires in a tree or wherever.i get that it helps the dispersion of rf energy now thanks.
You never answered the question. What does it do???
You're 😂 hilarious great video
LOL. Welcome to ham radio.
Why is there loss of 14v from hand wound toroid transformer output with separate winds on core not overlapping. The frequency of primary was matched to source AC, the primary and secondary windings are in same direction and entire ring core is covered with wire , but 2 separate sides. I thought the core under Primary caused induction into separate secondary windings. Desparate.
Is a mouse considered heavy equipment?
But seriously, why the odd number of wraps on one side before the cross-over as compared to after the cross-over. Usually I see the same number of loops before the cross-over as after.
Just following the designer recommendation and what they provided in the kit...Coffee and Ham Radios--trusting their R & D.
I always wanted to make my own were do you get the copper wire
Mauser or Amazon
I buy my magnet wire from Amazon; this came with the Mercury kit from Coffee and Ham Radios.
@@HOAHamRadio thanks for the information 👍💯
