    Notes that I forgot:
1- Always match your damaging spells with your element. There's pretty much never a reason not to.
2- Debuffs are basically element neutral. Element interactions don't matter for them.

A few more magic tips/notes more focused in the endgame
    1. MP is by far the most important stat to min max endgame, every other stat is farmable but MP will always be the bottleneck, if you know you are going mage on any unit I recommend focusing on the class that has high MP gain per level, denam specially would love to level with a class that has high MP as you cant really revert what class he levels up with.
    2. You might think that not running an off hand on cudgels is a good idea to have lower RT and faster turns, but I think (not sure if it was ever proven otherwise) cudgels are bugged and if you run just 1h cudgel the int bonus will not apply, always run an off hand with 1h cudgel, daggers are fine for the parry or run shields. I think 2h cudgels are also bugged the same way.
    3. While mentioning tier magic spells I always recommend running summon 1 alongside 2 if you are full DPS, in my experience single target nuking a single enemy is a lot safer than spreading damage around, aim summon to hit the least amount of people possible
    4. AOE healing is a lot more efficient than single target healing and I personally never run ST heals, Clerics I love having ease, boon + aoe healing and either exorcism or resurrection. renewal from other sources seems very good as well, I liked using it
    5. Songstress Iuria is absolutely broken when it comes to magic teams, her MP regen is bonkers and it enables casters to go crazy
    6. Nullify spells and warlocks that can use them are extremely helpful in the endgame, you can block orbs from heavenly general fights without taking any damage or those special finishers if you bait them properly, having a support warlock is my usual strat for coda4 on vyce
    7. Ogre set boosts magic like crazy, denam is a machine if you lord summon2 spam lord
    8. Princess auto luck buff is algo a great addition to magic heavy team.

That's all a few hundred hours later, though. I specifically didn't mention the hand thing because folks get way over presumptive over how much it would actually affect them and I've seen people quit over that before. It's a niche thing that almost no one will run into in any way that affects their gameplay. You specifically have to be using either nothing in your other hand at all, or one of the two end game heavy staves for it to matter, and even then it's only for the purpose of offensive spells vs a target with an elemental disadvantage. The range bonus and other things still apply. Realistically there's only two staves that can make effective use of this minmax, being the Lipuls and Sagara, which were already the best of their category.
Other than that, it just means heavy weapons with spell slots don't do as much in a perfectly ideal scenario then their one handed buddies. It's just not going to realistically change much, but does sound scarier than it is.
      Hopefully that makes sense.

@@CoffeePotato I thought the int bonus itself also did not apply and that was universal? anyways from the beginning I said my entire comment was endgame oriented.

I stopped playing this game a few months back, but these guides in addition to Resonant Arc's "book club" style videos have reinvigorated my interest in playing again. Im definitely going to start over with these tips since I was basically brute forcing my way through the first time lol.

I had forgotten that familiars get instill element. I really wish you could get a gremlin early game. Or even an orc? Like it seems silly to limit them to the end game. Having an alternative source of targetted AoE fear would help alleviate the reliance on terror knights.

It's probably the one debuff I miss having around more in other sources, but at the same time....they do give you several Dark Orbs, I guess.

Int is the primary stat, but MND is also a pretty big component of damage. There isn't really a class or gear set that can truly minmax for damage because of this.
Missiles are for fast plinks, AoE is good for either burning grass for cards or giving the healers lots of targets to waste their time. Summons are for when you wanted a gun, but you're too religious to wear a fedora.
Because of the nature of scaling, the only important stats are max hp and max mp. MP if you want your blessing stones and fruits to give decent amounts even without meditate, and HP if you don't want to die. In that respect, Cyclops are pretty great and it's hard to be anything but Rune Fencer.
Besides same element, you can also carry the weakness of your weakness. More than that and you won't have enough slots for flexible spell types.
Don't sleep on crit cards, aoe crit is a beautiful thing to see.

It's why I mostly glossed over that. Everything is universal enough to make almost any caster type work.

I’m ~100 hours in and just recently starting to really experiment with more personalized and advanced character builds. Really enjoying your videos; they’ve opened my mind and changed the way I view the game. Thanks!
Any thoughts or suggestions on overall team construction, like which class/race/element/monster would be better to have more or fewer of? Since the start I have gone out of my way to recruit 1 male and 1 female of each class as I unlock them, but now I’m in chapter 4 of my first route and I have over 70 units. Eventually I feel like I’m going to have to get rid of some of my friends that have been with me since the start, which makes me kind of sad. Just as an example: is there really any practical reason for having 2 fusiliers plus Lindl taking up space on my roster?

General rule of thumb: just vary it up. Nothing is directly better than anything else in every scenario, so having more puzzle pieces to fit allows for more flexibility. You get some quirks, though, like the orcs having access to Terror Knight, which means Dark element, which then turns into exclusive Dark Patriarch access, but it's hardly always needed. Just use what feels cool.

Shame that some spells did not return from the PSP version
Remember how brimstone burned through enemy TP and cause venom?
Or Thunderslay delayed all enemy turn in an area?
Or petrifog, AOE petrify on all enemies
I understand that certain postgame bosses have these spells but still

    • @CoffeePotato
      @CoffeePotato  11 месяцев назад +2

You do have those, but from somewhere else. Cockatrices with Dash are your Petrifog, Juggernaut with Threaten is your Brimstone, or even Dark Priest and Paradigm Shift. Orbs still do the Thunderslay in an even bigger area. There was already insane redundancy, it's all there in some other form still. Just not on a wizard, because they had everything.
