Agreed. People gotta eat, I have no issue with that. And this "paid content" was so completely transparent, there is no possibility of deception. If this transparency actually makes you more favorable of the sponsor, well... I guess the sponsor will be happy? There are bigger problems in the world.
I was heartbroken when I heard of Anton Yelchin's death. He was so young and full of promise. My heart goes to his parents who must be suffering through the worst possible pain right now. As a parent, all I can do is hope that my kids are spared until after I die. No parent should see the death of his or her child. 😰🙏💐
jmmb jmmb if you're into film analysis and video essays I would check out every frame a painting, lessons from the screenplay, now you see it and nerdwriter to name a few.
Normally when channels "sell out", it is extremely blatant and just annoying. You did a very good job at doing something creative and fun with the sponsorship, that was just as entertaining as your other content!
I'm a woman of science through and through but I appreciate the arts. I just want to say that this channel has really deepened my appreciation of it. 💕💕💕
Hate to say it, but I'm kinda glad you're not repeating the same movies over and over again and that you picked three movies from the modern era of cinema. This goes to show that even though older movies take more risks, modern movies can improve upon those risks and discover new ways of visualizing conflict.
There are some other notable films on Vudu Movies on Us as well, specifically Dogville, Aguirre the Wrath of God, Fitzcarraldo, and The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie.
Just to put it out there. This is a great example of how you could do a paid content. Not selling the sponsor too much but showing what value it might have in a way that is consistent with your channel. Great one !
The ending of Like Crazy is a pretty great example of "Showing, not telling", as well. The pure emptiness of their interaction in the shower is pretty heartbreaking.
you guys are like the Vsauce of Watchmojo lol. Smart, intelligent, thematic , start simple and then gets more sophisticated, and I have to watch multiple times to fully comprehend. thumbs up !
How watching Cinefix lists usually goes: Before: "Eh, I heard of those movies, but they didn't really catch my eye." During: "Man! Why did I skip this movie? I'm actually convinced that it's a good film." After: "Cinefix spoiled a main plot point to the movie and now... I don't know if I want to see it knowing the spoilers."
I usually stop the video if it mentions a movie I still wanna see. But I do like this extra motivation to watch a movie. Like in lists such as "top 10 movies with great visual/colors". So, no spoilers.
9:10 "With an hour and sixty minutes of build-up..." That would be two hours, right? Also, this is the kind of video I love from you guys. You explain why each shot works from a cinematography perspective. It isn't just what you like and "look at this." It's "look at this and see how it could be different and what making it like this *means* to the movie."
Easily the best list videos on this entire site, you along with a few other film channels have inspired me to become a director. Whether that will happen or not is yet to be seen. But keep in mind you guys may have change my life entirely, and I'm thankful
The first movie you picked up!! I LOVE IT!! stumbled across it a while ago but couldn't remember the title, it was beautiful, made me fall in love with Felicity Jones!!!
See, this is the kinda shit my professors shoulda been teaching me back in film school. You wrapped like a whole week's worth of lesson into 15 minutes and kept my attention the whole time.
not a lot of people talk about Young Adult or Jeff Who Lives At Home, which sucks because I really do adore those films. These were beautiful and well thought out analyzations of these little flicks that deserve some attention. Also, this is pushing me to watch Like Crazy. so KUDOS, you ridiculous channel of fantastic film love. you keep winning me over.
In the last movie, you could see understanding in her eyes, maybe some compassion. In the first bed scene there was disgust, in the person and partly herself. There was some change, i think it was just subtle.
What a straightforward and worthwhile way to approach paid content! Cinefix you're a class act, as usual. I'm definitely going to watch Young Adult now
Well done! You were clear and upfront from the very beginning with what this video was so I could opt out if I wanted. And you did movies I could see for free. I hate when I see a "Isn't this great! :D" and get there and EVERYTHING they showed I have to pay for!
Like crazy is a masterpiece. And so is Breathe in.And so is equals.Well,Drake Doremus is an AMAZING director what can I say...Plus rest in peace Anton Yelchin...
Why do I love these videos the same amount as all the awesome Physics and Space videos. Keep up the amazing work. It's always an education walking into this class!
so I was looking through your movie lists and I was shocked to see you guys don't have a "top ten film scores" yet! I'd be stoked to see something like that
I loved Jeff Who Lives At Home! Great movie! I appreciate the care and detail that went into this video even though it was sponsored and could have just been written off.
Wowsers, before I started watching your videos, and had almost no knowledge of what the Director was doing. Keeping track of some of the things you talk about in this video shows that the director knows the setup and how to best use it. Amazing stuff. Thanks again for another great video!
9:10 Damn. Even if I haven't watched the movie, you're brilliant breakdown had me nodding and smiling and agreeing. What a moment that was, and what a commentary. Incredible :)
Hi CineFix! You probably won't see this because of how old this post is, but I love what you do and have been binge watching all of your content lately. I just wanted to through out a title for you to check out I think you might like. Roger Dodger is one of my favorite movies for so many artistic reasons and thought you might enjoy what it has to offer. Thanks again for all the great videos.
From Roger Eberts review: One stylistic note: In nearly every scene, the Duplass brothers use quick little zooms in and out. Given the usual meaning of a sudden zoom in the grammar of the cinema (they translate as whoa!), these have no meaning at all. They're simply devices to remind us that the story isn't really happening but is being directed. Instead of whoa!, they translate as Duplass! They're good directors; they'll outgrow this.
The "Like Crazy" part bugs me a little. I mean, yes, the transition is brilliant, but the shot itself is a bit... off. Nearly every shot before the transition is a frame within a frame, showing the characters being trapped, helpless, no way out. Yet the montage ends with an open air, medium wide shot with a window, destroying the effect. The fading out of the music and the long period of time the film held onto this shot further draws attention to this shot that doesn't fit into the montage. Just my two cents.
YoungTheFish Like Crazy is without a doubt my favorite movie because it says so much with such little dialogue and it plays so much with shots that don't fit in with the rest of the movie. Just like the scene they show at the very end of the 1st spot where each day of the summer is shown from a fixed frame above the bed. Nothing else in the movie is like that scene and it feels strange when it happens at first, but when it stops and Jacob is alone, it so quickly becomes clear that, not only has the summer gone by, but the time that she's spent back home as well. It just works, and it works without a word. The montage frames the two so well, Jacob between pillars, hallway walls, a door, blocked and alone, and Anna behind glass, then, when he's processing that there is nothing he can do, he is back home by himself and the entire frame shows it. If you've seen the film you know that the very shot we are discussing is the beginning of Jacob's time spent with other women, Anna's with other men, and a long process of trying to figure out where each other fit in two separate lives. From Jacobs perspective, even though you are completely and totally right that the frames don't fit, they work in telling a story in a film that had a script made up of only 10% dialogue. I am absolutely enamored with such a insignificant film and I don't mean to be short or rude, I'm just excited that someone has presented an opportunity for educated discussion on something I really care about.
I guess I'll have to watch the film to further understand the motif. But the shot after cutting the black is also a shot with foreground obstruction so I just assume it's a shot that doesn't fit into the sequence.
YoungTheFish It can be a little difficult to get into at first but it is absolutely worth watching and apparently you can do so with free if I caught the message of this video correctly
Well, apart from the other comments, I want to point out that there's no space for the sight in those to shots. That could mean that he is at a point where he lost focus of the situation and doesn't know what to do. I haven't watched the movie yet, tho, that's what I take just from the scene shown on this video. To me it fits.
Thanks for spoiling me three movies in one video, now I don't need to go to the website you were advertising since I know everything there is to know about these movies.
Haven't seen the other two, but I wanna check them out. Young Adult tho is so underrated, it's a great movie and totally subverts expectations. Plus, Charlize Theron might be the most beautiful woman I've seen, so brownie points for that.
Now this is how you sponsored content!! Great Job Cinefix!!
Thanks
Thanks, Lori.
Yay, paid content that doesn't seem forced for once.
Which makes it more deceptive, surely?
theawecabinet Not when they are totally up front about it from the very first second of the video.
😰🙏💐
Barry Sabahat as good ol' Theoden would say "No parent should have to bury their child"
Dean444ful amen to that brother.
Same. Of all the actors we could have lost, he was incredibly gifted and seemed like a sincerely lovely person.
Well anytime you're looking at Felicity Jones that's an A+ visual right there. I think I'm in love.
King of Wakanda damn dude
U are everywhere
He doesn't care
King of Wakanda your on every single movie channel
Random Person Tchalla likes movies obviously
it's like someone takes all my attractions and fetishes, and mold them into a single person
love the honesty of sposership in this video
Felicity Jones is truly a brilliant visual.
This channel is my bible. Is the most amazing thing on yt right now in my opinion.
If anyone know other channel like this, please tell me.
jmmb jmmb if you're into film analysis and video essays I would check out every frame a painting, lessons from the screenplay, now you see it and nerdwriter to name a few.
lessons from the screenplay and every frame a painting are also really great film analysis channels
Channel Criswell and Every Frame a Painting
jmmb kaptain kristain ?
Lessons from the screenplay
Normally when channels "sell out", it is extremely blatant and just annoying. You did a very good job at doing something creative and fun with the sponsorship, that was just as entertaining as your other content!
I'm a woman of science through and through but I appreciate the arts. I just want to say that this channel has really deepened my appreciation of it. 💕💕💕
all of your videos make me cry it is a systematic problem that needs to be solved
I'm not much of a movie junkie, but damn CineFix's videos always make me want to be one
Anton Yelchin ... [sobbing noises]
I know right? He was so hot, poor guy
uh... regardless of "hotness", he didn't deserve to die the way he did...
Glad to see Jeff Who lives at home on here. Always felt that movie and the Duplass Brothers are under appreciated.
I wish they hadn't spoilered it...
I love these videos. I wish more people appreciated filmmaking.
Hate to say it, but I'm kinda glad you're not repeating the same movies over and over again and that you picked three movies from the modern era of cinema. This goes to show that even though older movies take more risks, modern movies can improve upon those risks and discover new ways of visualizing conflict.
Paid content or not, its the film analysis/deconstruction that made me subscribe to this channel, not the other stuff.
I thought Like Crazy did an Amazing job displaying the passage of time which helped to show how the characters were longing for each othere
Great one !
a bit odd every one of them came out in 2011. next you'll tell me that all your writers names are kevin.
There was a movie called We Need To Talk About Kevin released in 2011 too... not that it matters, but lol
João Rodrigues great movie^ lol
Well he was talking about similarity and repetition..
Every great
The ending of Like Crazy is a pretty great example of "Showing, not telling", as well. The pure emptiness of their interaction in the shower is pretty heartbreaking.
you guys are like the Vsauce of Watchmojo lol. Smart, intelligent, thematic , start simple and then gets more sophisticated, and I have to watch multiple times to fully comprehend. thumbs up !
I fell head over heels for film from this channel. Who's with me?
Even just seeing clips from Like, Crazy now makes me cry like a baby
How watching Cinefix lists usually goes:
Before: "Eh, I heard of those movies, but they didn't really catch my eye."
During: "Man! Why did I skip this movie? I'm actually convinced that it's a good film."
After: "Cinefix spoiled a main plot point to the movie and now... I don't know if I want to see it knowing the spoilers."
Believe me: still worth it
We overestimate the power of spoliers, imo. Sometimes they make me more excited about the film, really.
I feel the same way, true
I usually stop the video if it mentions a movie I still wanna see.
But I do like this extra motivation to watch a movie. Like in lists such as "top 10 movies with great visual/colors". So, no spoilers.
As a film student, I love this.

Get the extension Hola, that should let you use it
Trevor Frey CBA
I like how this video shows a ton of well known films and then go for the moments in little films
The way they handled sponsored content makes me appreciate the channel even more.
See, _this_ is how you do a sponsored video. Be upfront, and then deliver a video of usual quality. Well done, Cinefix.
Easily the best list videos on this entire site, you along with a few other film channels have inspired me to become a director. Whether that will happen or not is yet to be seen. But keep in mind you guys may have change my life entirely, and I'm thankful
Hey, thanks for making paid content that isn't forced, isn't _just_ an ad, and still analyses film well!
The first movie you picked up!! I LOVE IT!! stumbled across it a while ago but couldn't remember the title, it was beautiful, made me fall in love with Felicity Jones!!!
I've always wondered if it was well received or not, guess it was. It's the only Romance I love along with the "before sunset movies"
this is my favorite types of videos. it is beautiful how you capture subtle things I feel while watching a film and put it in words. I love it!
See, this is the kinda shit my professors shoulda been teaching me back in film school. You wrapped like a whole week's worth of lesson into 15 minutes and kept my attention the whole time.
I watched 'Like Crazy' for the first time because of this video.
I just wanted you to know that I'm really fucking grateful.
like crazy is one of my favorite movies. i recommend everyone see it, those who can handle the bluntness of relationships, especially long distance.
So glad to hear about Young Adult in this video, such an underrated movie.
I honestly never wanted this to end
I LOVE LIKE CRAZY SO MUCH YOU GUYS GAVE ME MORE REASON TO LOVE IT
James SAME
I love Like Crazy, but I don't think it gets enough attention, this analysis was amazing
I'm probably just feeble minded, but it depressed the fuck out of me.
LIKE CRAZYYYYYYYYYYY saw it and immediately clicked on it! Loved the movie!!!

Great video guys. Definitely going to check out Young Adult.
You had me at "..because you weren't actually going to get anything done today, were you?" xD thumbs up!!
Your channel has changed the way I watch and appreciate movies. Thank you so much!
What a straightforward and worthwhile way to approach paid content! Cinefix you're a class act, as usual. I'm definitely going to watch Young Adult now
I just love how descriptive and in depth these videos are!
Great video, it is amazing to watch you guys discuss films with such passion and knowledge, and it inspires me to follow on with my passions.
CineFix...I don't have the words to express how much I LOVE your channel.
Well done! You were clear and upfront from the very beginning with what this video was so I could opt out if I wanted. And you did movies I could see for free. I hate when I see a "Isn't this great! :D" and get there and EVERYTHING they showed I have to pay for!
This channel is so freaking good. I don't always agree with the reviews but I can't argue with the quality of your videos. Keep up the great work!
Am I the only one who noticed that all the movies were from 2011?
only you
You are the chosen one
Aziz Woodward CHOSEN ONE!!!
Aziz Woodward you are the one Neo
LEAD US TO SALVATION
I love your brilliant moment vids
One could argue for #1 that the use of similar images, with the tool of time says that is is stuck, or hasn't moved on.
It's always an education walking into this class!
that was the smoothest sponsered ad i've ever seen
Those are some curious film choices.
they're all 2011 films too.
alonso Why? because it's not Laurence of Arabia? lol
so I was looking through your movie lists and I was shocked to see you guys don't have a "top ten film scores" yet! I'd be stoked to see something like that
Woah. That was incredible, I love watching these lists more than any other content on RUclips
14:19 "Cinefix movie lists....movie lists....mov-.
Uhh, what happened there?
Repeated motif... that's the whole theme of the video
9:10 Damn. Even if I haven't watched the movie, you're brilliant breakdown had me nodding and smiling and agreeing. What a moment that was, and what a commentary. Incredible :)
You guys always got the best lists when it comes to film.
As a writer your descriptions are AMAZING.
I am a member of Vudu. It rocks.
Aaah, finally, another Cinefix movie list... That hits the spot
I forgot I'd seen Jeff Who Lives at Home.

cinefix is watchmojo for people with brains. thank you.
'Young Adult' is so good, and has probably my favorite Charlize Theron character (sorry Furiosa)
please if you haven't already mention the truman shoe in one of these. i think it deserves to be in one of these
These episodes are amazing. Thank you.
much better content than other tubers

Exactly. They're apart, he is free to date others, and then he does.

Ahhh I remember "Like crazy" pretty accurate depiction of a relationship..
Got my assignment for the weekend
Ready to welcome new year with 2 million subs? Great achievement! Keep being awesome Cinefix!
This guys on Vudu knows where to put the money
did you super-upgrade the mic or something, because I'm getting all the more cozy listening to Clint now.
SO glad to hear this!
After battling with it for months, I've finally found a nice-sounding compression scheme for the vocals.
***** are you for real? good to read I wasn't just imagining things. But seriously, it was über smooth.
Haven't seen the other two, but I wanna check them out. Young Adult tho is so underrated, it's a great movie and totally subverts expectations. Plus, Charlize Theron might be the most beautiful woman I've seen, so brownie points for that.
Great, well now I have to sign up for Vudu!!! Damn it!!!
you guys should do a top visual list for breaking bad. rewatching it now and there's so many great moments throughout.
I think Cinefix actually does better when they're being paid to release content. Great video as always
Damn this came in handy for my next movie, thanks a lot.
DIng! Felicity Jones is not my wife
"...*not my girlfriend" Or did I get this as a wrong reference?
You got it right
Scene does not include a lapdance. Ding!
Vincent Adultman
"We're gonna sin it anyway because she's not my girlfriend". Ding!
Yo, Cinefix, you videos are amazing. Thank you
YOU GUYS ARE BRILLIANT.
