Hello your video is informative, and appreciated!
However i thought this was a calcium only method, and magnesium would have to be supplemented seperate by way of epson salt?

Hi thanks for your comment. Yes this is true, we add also our special Big 4 mix, which gives us what they call calmag plus. Epsom salt added together makes a powerful mixture. Normally molasses is used to get the calmag plus, but we do it just a little bit different.

The bubbles are Co2! You can use citronatic acid, too. works the same as vinegar.

I mixed at a 1:1 ratio. Will I get the desired result, or should I add more vinegar?"

Hello IzeeBali, thanks for the question. Actually it is unimportant how much calcium you use. After the process, there will always be calcium left over. That means that more vinegar the better. It would be kind of difficult if you use 1 liter of vinegar and 1 kilo of calcium, which would be waaaay too much calcium. Take 200-300 grams of ground egg shells and add them to 1 liter of vinegar. Let it go through the process, the more vinegar that you have the more the calcium will dissolve, giving you more calcium acetat.

So after bubbling you have Calcium, then pour it into bottle and you say it becomes “CalMag”? How this works?

    • @shivasgrowgarden5206

MJ, the acid in the vinegar is reacting to the calcium carbonate and turning it into calcium acitate, once you strain it, it becomes instantly available to your plants. You get calmag by mixing 2pars calcium with one part Magnesium *Epsom salt*. To get calmag plus, add 1 part molasses.

If you grind shells up you can do it a lot faster

i've tried this but the reaction is very slow and low, and stops reaction after 1 day. 5% white vinegar and store bought eggs. any idea why i'm not getting the intense reaction?

Hi Paul, do you grind your egg shells? If not, try grinding them as fine as you can get them. Or you can order from Amazon Calcium Carbonate powder. This might help.

@@shivasgrowgarden5206 no i didn't grind them, they were washed, dried crushed roughly to 1/4 square and smaller size some ended up powder, average probably 1/16" if actually squared. definitely as much as most videos i see on the subject.

@@paulwilkins7903 Try it, the smaller the shells the more it should fuzz. And make sure that after washing the shells you also cook the shells in the oven at app. 250-280 degrees Fahrenheit, for 30-40 min to kill pathogens and bacteria. This is important.

So i left it uncovered for 3 weeks and there's a layer of mold ...is this rubbish now?

Hi, this is a good question. In general Calmag does not expire as long as it is stored in a cool dark place with top. But I have had small incidents of mold. What I did was simply strain it through a paper coffee strainer and use it as normal. I never noticed any problems with my plants. So try it and if you notice that your plant is having problems, stop immediately and flush.

I dont understand, why they need to be cooked. It is a waste of energy. Just dissolve it vinegar.@@IDontCareEitherOne

It is important that you cook them because it is the best way to know if thwy are good for comsumption, and vinegar will change the taste.@@suki4410
