  • Oscar Brown, III was a lovely human being, a talented bassist, singer, and songwriter. Affectionately known as Bobo Brown, he is one of two boys of Oscar Brown, Jr's seven children. Bobo is the one who inspired Browns' lyric for "Dat Dere." He was a poet and musical co-director of the Funky Wordsmyths. The FW's proclaimed their genre: "hard-hitting Black poetry and music." They had a groundbreaking McDonalds commercial in the later 1990s. This instrumental, background track is from their repertoire, a song called "Southside Rain."
This poem titled "Bo's Notes" was the final poetry he wrote. The family found this poem which was jotted down on a piece of paper just hours prior to Bobo Brown being killed by a drunk driver in an automobile accident in 1996.
This RUclips channel is authorized and managed by the Brown family, dedicated to popularizing the literary and musical legacy of Oscar Brown, Jr. who should be remembered as an artist who raised the collective consciousness using the arts.

Thanks for this. I lived around the corner from The Bop Shop in the early 90's and used to go see the Funky Wordsmyths frequently during their residency there at the time. This recording bring backs some great memories. Did the Funky Wordsmyths ever record? I would love to buy some of their music if it's available at all.
