    My Jack is a Cavalier, and he only did this in the first month I had him but sometimes when we would go for a walk he would stop and come up to me and stand on his hind legs for me to pick him up...Now he does that when I have to pick him up to put him in his car seat in my van, or if we are going for a trike ride, he does the same behavior that I assume he wants me to pick him up because it tends to be a fun time coming with treats and lots of attention from me, and a ton of mental stimulation... when we get back, both of us take a nap. I am in NJ where its cold so Jack does where sweaters during the winter and he is fine with wearing it, but makes a game of putting it on him with lots of butt wiggling in the air, and him using his mouth to make it difficult for me to put it on...but once it's on he is fine because that is the signal we are going outside... same if he walks in the room and see's me in street clothes (I am disabled) he knows "we" are going out.

    One video from another Channel said that them putting their paw on you meant they were trying to dominate you and then in the next video they described the exact same thing as the dog trying to reach out for contact. I understand it probably could be both and is most likely situational. What do you think about that gesture without any context?

    • @HowToTrainADreamDog
      @HowToTrainADreamDog  4 месяца назад +1

      The dominance theory has been debunked and does not apply to dogs. Although they might be trying to get your attention, it's not a dominance issue.

    Thank you very much, I just got my first very own pup yesterday and you made it so easier for us! I have one question tho. Dexter often chooses very peculiar positions while sleeping in his dog bed, like laying with head sticking out. Should I correct him when I see him like that? I am concerned about the development of his spine and such, but dont want to wake him up from a good nap.

    • @HowToTrainADreamDog

      We recommend not moving your pup while he is sleeping! Consult your vet if you are concerned with his development but try not to interrupt his sleepy snoozing.

    I'm getting a puppy in june and I've watched some videos about how to introduce a new puppy to your older dogs, and I'm concerned about when we eventually will introduce our puppy to our one older dog who is 8 years old. I was little when we got her and my parents didn't research much about training a dog so she has very very basic commands instilled in her but she is very energetic and would probably be in the puppy's face when trying to introduce them which is not ideal. what would you reccomend? we also have a cat who likes to be free to go wherever he likes so he probably would find a way past the baby gates into where the puppy will be. any tips?

    • @HowToTrainADreamDog
      @HowToTrainADreamDog  2 года назад +1

      Love your questions, we definately want to provide safe spaces for all pets so that they can escape away from overly excited interactions. We can use puppy pens, baby gates, close doors to rooms etc. If you can let the pup gets some energy out running aroung the backyard, going for a decompression walk, or playing with you before interacting with the older dog or cat that would be idea. This video all about introducing a puppy to a cat/dog would be a good one to watch next ruclips.net/video/ZOsH97V-9SU/видео.html

    Michele, we have seen every single one. What I have had a question about is the amount of pacing back and forth before our dogs go potty. They find a spot and walk, circle around, walk - this can go on for several minutes before they settle and potty. What is that about? I worry that my senior Pomeranian is constipated, her marching can last awhile.
    Thank you

    • @HowToTrainADreamDog
      @HowToTrainADreamDog  2 года назад

      Pacing is very common and usually helps with getting things moving. If you are concerned about your senior pup, we recommend consulting your vet.

    I really don’t get why trainers insist that your dog can’t understand you! My old dogs have always understood what I’m saying! I guess it depends on the strength of your relationship!

    • @HowToTrainADreamDog
      @HowToTrainADreamDog  2 года назад +1

      Gaining an animal’s trust and building a common language between two different species (human and canine) happens with one positive interaction at a time, which builds trust. It sounds like you have built trust in your relationship with your pups!
