I agree with the renewal; Mr, Landis's views are very similar to NT Wright. I was raised with a desire to "go to heaven" the earth would be destroyed but after reading more of Gods word He speaks strongly of a renewal. So much so, that we as believers right now are to help with that (not just wait for our life to be over and leave earth).
The future bodily resurrection does not point to the idea that the earth would not be destroyed. If anything it is the opposite: just as a typical dead human body would be destroyed (eg via decomposition in the soil or via cremation) before the arrival of the future day of general resurrection of the dead, the earth would also be destroyed, before the day of renewal comes.
