How Does God Restore Us?

  • Fr. Mike explains how God restores our brokenness, especially when it comes to our bodies.
So often, we find that the more precious a thing is, the more fragile it is. And when something precious is broken, we often think it’s become worthless. Like when we break a fragile teacup, we throw it away because it no longer has value.
But that’s not the way it is with our bodies.
God created us to be temples of the Holy Spirit, something very precious. But we’re not like fragile teacups. If we’re broken, if we’ve been abused, if we’ve been taken advantage of, or even if we’ve chosen to give in to temptation, we’re not worthless.
    God restores us.
And through his grace, we are restored to even greater glory.

I wasn't as pure as I wish I had been before marriage but I can say that every little bit of me I saved (and reclaimed) for my wife was 100% worth it! Purity of love for your spouse cannot be matched by anything else. Waiting (and reclaiming as needed) is worth it!

I am crying my eyes out Fr. Mike. Thank you for saying your words in this video. I am 80 years old and have had a great turbulent time for years now with repentance, forgiveness and in later years confession because of abuse and my own sinning. I thank you for this help. I have been praying to the Holy Spirit and God is answering me on this very subject. Oh my Jesus have mercy on me. I am so grateful for the Holy Spirit speaking to me through Fr. Mike's message. Glory be to God! Time to move forward!

My grandma told a story of how she broke her mother's precious China tea set while playing tea party with it on the back porch. Her mother was recently widowed and the tea set had been a wedding gift. She said when her mother saw what she had done, she saw tears in her eyes. That look of pain on her mother's face stayed with her the rest of her life.
This is how much the sins of sexual abusers offend God and Our Blessed Mother. Pray that the victims are healed and the abusers will humble themselves and repent before it's too late. At death, our opportunity for repentance, forgiveness and mercy is lost.

Needed this in a lot of ways.
Even though I've been to confession and I've prayed for forgiveness, there is still an internal guilt that I feel.
But it is so true that God has made my brokenness into something even more beautiful.
Now, I can testify to the virtue of chastity with a great understanding of how much lust and impurity really hurts a person.
I'm not broken anymore; I'm restored into something even more beautiful.

Someone hurt me when I was 6. Woke up in the night to it. It made the rest of my childhood kind of horrible and then I acted out in shameful ways. Now in my late 40s trying hard to find my way to God. Trying to forgive and be forgiven. It's hard, but I don't see an alternative to being saved. I hope I'm doing better with God. I'm finally realizing self denial too. I'm glad for that and will pray for the strength.

I had been thinking about this restoration with gold in Asian pottery too lately and it is lovely. God can do absolutely anything, He is not bound my our worldly possibilities and convictions of scarcity. Your worth is nothing that anybody can decide over, it's something that's given to you. It's part of your entire being, if you will, it's like your anatomy only much more eternal. Just because someone fails to treat you as that doesn't mean they can take away from your worth. It can cause you to not feel it but it never goes away, it just gets covered up. And you can pull away the darkness so that your light shines again, bright and for you and everybody to see.
God bless, this was a lovely message.

    Hey Mike,
For the longest time I've always been against the catholic church because I felt as if the holy spirit was leading away from it since a young age, but just maybe it was that catholic church I attended in particular. You're totally spot on by saying it's an infallible book, but fallible people in my opinion. Thank you for clearing up some things about the catholic faith to me. It definitely makes me reconsider the faith. Regardless I'm non-denominational, and I go by what the bible says. I add nothing, and I take away nothing from God's holy word. I do more to understand it everyday. I guess I have noticed every single church has issues, and misinterpreted, or misjudged scripture that they live by. But I still can't get over a few things. I've noticed alot of Catholics, and mainly Catholics for that matter are mislead. I'm unsure what's causing this, but alot of Catholics are lukewarm, or idolizing statues and saints/Mary when it's obviously not okay. It's just hard to say for sure, but I think I need to stop focusing on what I thinks wrong with every denomination, and start focusing on what the people of God are being mislead by/struggling with. And to help them break out of that lukewarm state they face, and help them become truly born again In christ.

So, so glad you brought up kintsugi!! I've been hearing about it and the symbolism of it is just incredible. How something broken is put back together and overlaid with gold, but in a way that highlights the broken pieces. And that is the key to this art form. It's like they own the brokenness and the prior piece is transformed- wow! 😀And the piece is displayed proudly as a newly minted masterpiece. Thank you!!

This video confirms the broken pieces of my temple. The desecration done by those around me, growing up. They'll answer to God for every broke piece.

Great video - just look how Jesus healed Mary Magdalene and how central she was to his ministry, suffering, death and resurrection? Talk about being restored to someone even better than she could have ever dreamed of or imagined.

Thank you for this video. Instead of feeling guilt and shame I can accept Gods grace and glory through my sins and pain. Very beautiful and humbling
