Nomad Lane V4 Bento Bag is calling my name vs BEIS both Mini Weekender styles. I am currently using my new Biaggi Carry Cube Backpack as my personal item.
Lauren, You did a wonderful job organizing this video to compare all the different features. We really appreciate all the work you put into making your videos.
@@ItsTheKellys I have the Biaggi Carry Cube Backpack cuz I really liked the functionality but I've not been impressed by the quality. I'm honestly not sure what else is out there. The monos backpack seemed pretty neat but I do like clamshell openings better for travel.
I love my Nomad Lane! So easy to organize - i know where everything is, and i totally can use it alone for a quick weekend trip. They just had the black one on sale for $100 off, and they let me stack your code on as well, so i think i paid $230-ish. Well worth the money - and i heard about it here!
I love my Beis mini weekender. I have it in black. While I am not sure I'd use it for extended airline travel, I'm more of a backpack gal, it is a great roadtrip bag. The clamshell opening gives it great access to items, and the capacity is great.
I don't own one, but I really love that Nomad Lane duffel. They have designed it in such a smart way! Thanks for another great comparison video, Lauren!
I was shopping for a bag that could do the following. Fit under a airline seat UPRIGHT. Water bottle pocket, hold a larger laptop, shaped in a way that could be used as a laptop bag for business, yet as large as possible, and still never look like a duffle. I bought thr nomad lane. Super happy with the choice.
Great review!! I am the same level of pickiness as you are, it’s really nice to see this thoroughness. When the Bento 4.0 was released I purchased since they had a sale and SO glad I did!! My one qualm is it’s so heavy to carry over your shoulder, which I had to do when I was forced to check my carryon. For future readers, it does seem like it’s always on sale so you have plenty of chances to pick it up for less. I tried the Monos one and HATED it - was so heavy alone, the opening was too small, the trolley sleeve was too skinny for my (non-Monos) suitcase, and I didn’t feel like the outer pouch thing was very secure. Nomad Lane for the win!!
I’ve used the Away duffel for years and always struggled. I just packed for a trip and I’m obsessed with the Nomad Lane bag. By far the smartest thing I’ve done is purchase that bag!
Good to know. I have been on the fence about this bag since they were a kickstarter project, merely due to the price. I think i will bite the bullet this weekend.
@@eclairtreo I know it’s a bit pricey but if you travel carry on only it’s well worth it. I’m actually on a flight right now and this bag has me super impressed. The organization far exceeds anything I’ve seen before and for the amount I have stuffed in here it is impressively light. @@rhofernandez5346 I have problems with the heavy ones myself. This new Nomad Lane I bought feels much lighter than the away everywhere bag I had so I was very happy. At one point I stopped using the away bag because after it was packed it got to heavy. So far so good with my Nomad.
I have the Nomad Lane Bento bag. I packed it as my personal item for a 2 week Northern European trip. Once I packed it with everything I would need with all my essentials, an iPad, electronics, liquids bag (didn’t use the one provided as it’s too small) and a change of clothes, I unloaded it and tried to pack the same stuff into a variety of other styles of personal items bags. Hands down the NL Bento held the most stuff. It fit under the seat in front of me on its side on a KLM Cityhopper flight no problem. The Bento is my go to personal item as well. Tried and tested. Worth the money - it’s held up really well.
I just bought the new Nomad and the Monos carry-on hybrid. Going on a 3 week international trip. Thank you for helping me make my decision. I will let you know how they did.
I like duffle functionality. They’re almost always more spacious than a backpack. If you’re needing to get into the bag a lot on a flight, a duffle is easier than a backpack.

I have the Beis convertible mini weekender and really like it! The shoe compartment is a game changer for me! It’s great for weekend trips and as my personal item for personal travel, but not my fave for work trips. I’m still on the hunt for a backpack that is practical but also cute enough for the office or taking out to explore!
Beis mini convertible all day long. I.compared and compared and am sooo happy with my choice! Your reviews as well as.many others put it on my radar in the first place. I hate backpacks so much, so a versatile duffle is very important to me. I like using it as a tote when I get where I am going and zip the bottom off to corral all my toiletries or shoes where we are staying. And I dont find zipping off and on the bottom annoying at all. I am not a fan of any of the nylon fabrics purely for asthetics so I will take extra weight over what feels and looks cheap to me (though price wise they definitely are not!) I have used mine for weekend car trips as.well as a personal bag on flights (in black). No issues with dirt, but that is why I picked black even though I'd have preferred a lighter color.
Great comparison. I would definitely lean more toward the nomad lane if I wanted this style of personal item. I am more of a backpack person, so I am looking forward to your backpack comparison video!!!!
I don't have any of these and need one! I really like the way you organized the video. Some things helped rule a bag in or out (I want feet on anything I might set on the ground, I want a very wide light colored opening/interior, I want quality materials, a large comfortable drop handle...). I'd seen your Bento reviews, so I knew you'd pick that one - it's great but also very expensive for a personal bag - if I traveled several times/month, I could see it being worth it though. Thanks for the detailed comparison!
My Beis mini convertible weekender came with a laptop sleeve… I’ve seen reviews where it came with this sleeve and also some without the sleeve so idk I ended up not using it for travel but as a work bag
I love how pretty all my Beis stuff is. I wish Nomad would add a cuter looking one haha But all the pockets and function is so fun to see. I love clever items!
I really want to purchase the Nomad Lane bag soon. :) The Beis bag - yes, much too big for a personal item. It becomes super heavy when fully packed & has all of the issues you mentioned. I agree it’s great as a weekend bag. My daughter loves hers for this purpose!
Awesome video! Love the detailed review of all the bags. Nomad Lane is the one I plan to invest in. A lot of thought was created into the bag…the organization is exactly what I need for traveling.
Hi, great video! I signed up to receive your duffel and luggage comparison chart but I can only access the editable packing list. Is there a direct link to the chart?
Thank you for the detailed comparison. I appreciate the way you compared features in categories vs. the entire bags one by one! I like that you chose a favorite bag, but as I am new to the channel, do you use for business travel or vacation? Does the type of travel impact your choice when it comes to a favorite? Again, great content. Thanks so much !
Thank you for that comprehensive comparison! Very informative and helped me make my choice. By the way, Nomad Lane is now offering $100 off for a limited time.
Hi Lauren, thanks for the great comparison! One correction: I have the Away Everywhere Bag-please note that the interior mesh pocket is actually a water bottle holder (and is advertised as such on the Away website).
I would love to find the lightest weight duffle/backpack 1.5- lbs with outside water bottle pocket, hidden passport/wallet pocket, trolley sleeve, front pocket for cell phone, quick grabs, feet, water resistant, Lug and Vera Bradley have interesting bags. I have several different options with both. My last cruise I used my Longchamp for personal item and beach bag but No trolley no organization just lightweight. Yes I want it all😂
@@ItsTheKellys I don’t have any in mind really. The only one I’ve seen so far that I’m interested in is the Pacsafe Citysafe CX 17L. I’m interested in seeing ones with a laptop sleeve/compartment, water bottle holder, and with a luggage handle sleeve.
@ItsTheKellys the nomad lane hits all size requirements to fit under any domestic airline seat. It's only 8" tall and it's length is nearly perfect to stick out just enough to make things easy to grab, yet doesn't block your feet. They really did an amazing job designing that bag.
@@ItsTheKellys Thank you. I was convinced I wanted to do the ivory duffel with my Monos sage carryon plus, but this review of the Nomad bag is compelling. But it doesn't come in ivory, so I would need to do the black with the sage. Would love your opinion. Should I do the Monos ivory duffle or the Nomad black with the Monos sage? Thanks!
@@KarenClemes the black nomad lane would be fine with the sage too because it still has black features, like the handles and wheels. If you like it better, get it!
I have the monos but I keep being drawn to the Nomad Lane. It just looks like it might be perfect. How does it work if you paired it with the Monos carry on?
Mostly any backpack I have reviewed is international personal item sized, except for the underseat pro. I always recommend backpacks over anything else for international. But I don’t have any comparing ones because I have 100s more coming constantly
I have the vegan leather monos duffel and my only complaint is that it’s hard to slide under the airplane seat due to the friction. I’m so tempted to get the nomad lane bag but I already have so many travel bags 😂
I’m not really a duffle person. I want to like them because they’re much cuter/more polished looking than a backpack, but I find them too heavy when packed to bother with. I know ideally they’re going to be riding around on top of your carryon, but if you’d end up having to take your luggage up steps, you’re going to have to carry it. And at that point, I’d rather have that weight on my back than crossbody. Much better weight distribution that way.
I am #teamduffel all the way, even in my heavy 60 litre+ convertible expedition bags! I prefer convertable backpack and crossbody but for a weekend bag duffels suit me best. I think many people are looking at these duffels the secondary bag where I can always fit my travel necessities in the 1 bag!
@@ItsTheKellys agreed! Car trips are a great use case for duffles. Basically if the distance I’m going to carry my bag over the entire course of a vacation is best measured in feet, a duffle is usually a great choice. But if I’m carrying it enough that that distance is best measured in miles (even fractional miles!), a backpack is better. Otherwise, I’m going to end up with a sore shoulder and possibly a friction burn on my neck from the strap.
Thank you for this. A comparison of these exact 4 was just what I was looking for. I wonder if you can tell me if the blue Monos duffle matches the Ocean blue Monos carry on. I notice that the colors online don’t exactly match in person.
Do you know the laptop compartment dimensions of the Nomad Lane bag? My laptop is an odd shape, almost a square, and I would love to see if it works in the Bento Bag. Thanks!
It says it can fit a 16” laptop, and the bag is 17x 10. So I’d imagine something like 16x9 is the largest. I’m not home today, but can check if it will fit if you send me the dimensions
@@ajajones7150 this comment is 5 months old but for anyone else looking my laptop which measures 10.25” high does NOT fit due to the slight rounding at the top of the bag. That’s my only disappointment w the bag and I plan to buy a smaller laptop next time I need one
So many bags are too big for United...might as well buy something a Walmart...or dive into my closet for the cheap stuff I've had for years! Can you put bags in an upright position so the "length" becomes the "height"? That is about the only way I can see the Away or Nomad would fit...
I don’t really suggest duffels as personal items, but people have gotten away with these on United. The monos fits, so some of the other ones would, too. I use duffels more as bags for overnights or car trips, and backpacks for personal items.
Hi, Why did you not compare the monos weekender and the Beis in a seperate video? I don’t feel like your comparing apples with apples when Beis is the only bag with a bottom compartment in this comparison video. What was your criteria for choosing these 4 bags? I’ve purchased luggage based on your recommendations and it’s been spot on, so thank you for all the work you do testing and doing the comparison videos.
The monos weekender is carry on size, not personal item size. I chose these 4 based on the fact that they are all personal items, and based on comments of people asking me to compare them all. They seem to be my subscriber’s favorites. I also did a poll. Beis vs away, away vs nomad lane, nomad lane vs monos, Beis vs monos, etc. i wanted one big video vs a bunch of separate ones. Similar to my best carry on luggage video.
I am so disappointed in my Bento Bag! My TSA bag was pinched and scratched. The bag had yellow interior!! I ordered Bordeaux and I hate the yellow. The website showed gray interior!
They switched everything to the beige interior when they launched their new colors and new items (backpack and tote) I was confused with it too, and had to confirm it with them. Talk to customer service if you’re unhappy, they are really helpful
Love your video, but do you have a similar video comparing different personal item backpacks? If so, I would really appreciate you tagging me on the video. Thank you.
I don’t, because there are too many. Everyone I’ve shown has everything we are usually looking for, it’s just personal preference, which makes it a very hard video to make
I had the Beis mini weekender. It’s not for me. First of all, one trip through the security scanner and it’s filthy (had it in the beige) and it doesn’t clean well at all due to the material. Contacted their customer service for advice and they were basically like “too bad.” Also, the opening is difficult to deal with as once it’s closed, the top becomes so narrow, it actually doesn’t have much space at the top. The bag is heavy and it’s also too tall to efficiently fit under most airplane seats easily. It just was not a good fit for me. I do have friends that Iike it a lot but also complain about how dirty it gets. The positive is that it’s so trendy I was able to sell it quickly and easily for a fair price. I use the monos metro duffle (in the vegan leather) and the Calpak Luka constantly and they are super easy to wipe down. Much better bags all around although the Metro duffle opening can be tough as well. The Monos looks more polished and professional and the Luka is the most useful all around. Thanks for the review!
I agree 100% about the Beis, and doesn’t fit alot. Although mine does come clean easy. I’ve heard a lot of bad things about the Luka breaking a lot. Keep me posted!
When I saw these 2 pop up in my Saturday morning feed I had to reexamine my morning and make time to pour a pot of tea and make myself comfortable to watch on the big screen! I swear this is like porn for travelers! 😳

I believe I have a photo of it from when I went to the monos store because someone specifically asked for it! DM me on Instagram and I can show you!
Another awesome video…thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@ItsTheKellys Thank you! It’s 14” wide and just a hair under 10” deep
What are your thoughts on the Dagne Dover brand?
I’ve never seen them in person, or used them, but I’ve reviewed their dupes from quince.
@@ItsTheKellys they have them at Nordstrom. I wonder if you think they would be too heavy to travel with.
Kelly! You always come thru with the extremely helpful vids!! Thank you! Awesome job! ❤️
Thank you :)
40% sale on Belis...i got 3 items--- duffle mini weekender and standard weekender
I saw!
Mono had a birthday sale..i just missed . will hold out til Black Friday. @@ItsTheKellys
You should have used the Beis sport duffle instead of the weekender.
1. I don’t own it
2. People always ask me for these specific bag comparisons, that’s why I chose them :)
Great comparison!

Thank you Melissa :)
