This film is a wonderful time capsule, I went to st Josephs as a young boy of 5, back in 1962, it may be a few decades after the film, But the walls were still the same when I was a pupil,

sad to think that many of these young boys were to die in the trenches in France a decade later ..

although the scene shows the teachers looking authoritative and the children in awe,, it also shows the total respect for authority, which is sadly no longer the case today,,it is rather sad to think all the teachers and in perticular the chidren are all long gone ,,atleast in most cases,,for the time of this film,, its amazing,,almost magical in its presentation,an age captured in the timewarp sphere,,,

Also the children are happy to just be in school. According to the film most of them would have been working in a factory a few years earlier instead of being in school. Something we all take for granted now.

Many of the young boys here would die in the trenches of WW1. Strangely moving when you see the innocence here.

Cannot agree with the lady saying most of these children would have been working in the factories before 1902 act..An act of 1893 made school leaving age 11 and later act in 1898 made it 12.Looking at these children they look no more than 7 or 8 years old.Best to get the facts right.Wonderful film though.

It is normal that everyone is dead, no one lives forever, and this video is 116 years old ... It is obvious that everyone is dead, it is not surprising.

One of the better Mitchell and Kenyon films. The children look healthy and happy. I expect they were thrilled to be filmed and also to get out of the classroom. However, Some of those teachers look a bit severe and strict it has to be said. None of them look at the camera.

I assume the girls dressed all in black were in mourning. Given the life expectancy of those times they could easily be wearing it for a parent or sibling.
