This week, we take a look at a motivational speaker I found on TikTok who has a very unorthodox method. Enjoy!

I love the way he was like "if I was in a wheelchair, I wouldn't be afraid of the wheelchair" like... yeah dude, I don't think actual wheelchair users are scared of their wheelchairs either..
LMAO
"I spent money on this thing to help with my mobility but AHHH it is tooooo scary. Gosh, golly, why did I let this into my home. Ahhhh. So scary. Sure, it would help me move around and experience more of life, probably due to a chronic illness, but IT IS SOO SPOOKY"

Me, an amputee: "Yes, Owen, the world being TOO NICE to you is definitely the problem with wheelchairs...." 👀
I'm really glad I read your comment and then you username in that order, that made me laugh quite a bit.
I walk with a stick and it's just the **worst** when someone offers me their seat on a train, HOW DARE THEY?!!?!?! :)
exactly what I thought as a wheelchair user lmao
I like ur username lol
Right? He's an albeist POS
what’s up, checkmark.
When he said "When I do that, I'm teaching" it gave me the same vibes as an abuser saying that they hit and/or insult you because they "love you"
Dude, gtfo. No one cares what you think except those losers that love to judge anything that doesn't resonate with their "truth". You were never going to help that guy anyways, so go back to eating your McDonald's.
so true. i was abused by my teachers & they used the excuse of “””teaching””” me plenty of times
This is the type of man who'd abuse his children and then justify it with: _"My parents did this exact method on me and I turned out well and this means that they will too. I'm teaching them to be really strong like me."_
And this mindset is more common than people want to believe
We really need to make therapy more accessible so people can stop wasting their time with some of these motivational speakers.
Preach!
100%
Plus, we need to get rid of the stigma surrounding therapy. A lot of people in professional careers, like lawyers, avoid therapy as it make their records look bad.
THIS it def needs to be more affordable to ppl who need it and to those who want to go but cant afford
Yessss
This dude's whole schtick is just yelling, "BE BETTER! STOP BEING BAD!"
"WHY ARE YOU IN THAT WHEELCHAIR, JUST GET UP AND WALK"

Right!😂
Yeah, especially with the math teacher bit because it took me back to my primary school days when teachers berated me for getting math problems wrong 😅😢.

I feel so bad for people that are too lazy to watch the full video because its "an hour long", then judge based on short entertaining video. The guy that was "bullied" actually looked like a totally different person in another video Owen posted. Please don't talk about something you have 0 knowledge of (in this case, trauma release and social conditioning)

As a wheelchair user, I can confirm that I am NEVER worried about people being too nice to me. People straight up see you as subhuman, going grocery shopping makes me actually wanna die
When I had a serious knee injury, I used one of those motorized carts & people literally went out of their way to sneer & obstruct my path because they assumed I riding it to goof off. People are vile to the disabled.

@@ongakira lol so would we but it was to do races with her lol I race her around disney when we went. It was a blast.
One of my professors in college (this particular class met once a week) would have us close our eyes and do some motivational talk and trying to get us to forget about everything that’s going on outside the class. One of the things, I remember, every week she would say something about noticing your feet on the ground and just being attached to the earth. And honestly, that shit helped me get into the rhythm of the class and just be grounded and mentally prepped.

I’m in a wheelchair, and trust me: everybody is not “too nice.” I’m happy to get “nice enough,” really.
thats what i was thinking too like ppl are more often than not just awful to disabled ppl?? so idky he said that
Kurtis made an excellent point too that the inconveniences disabled people face due to most things being made to be used by abled people is pretty high. People being nice to disabled people is never an insult.
I think the way people are "too nice" is when they keep trying to help when nobody asked ya know, I've done that to a classmate multiple times, and I fell so shity for it nowadays cause he was clearly bothered but I didn't realize it
Honestly, I think he miscommunicated what he was trying to say. He isn't afraid of people being "too nice", he's afraid of being pitied. I think this is probably a deep-seated ego fear that a lot of these guys have. They can't handle pity because they have no self-awareness or confidence.
@@logangantner3863 I see the point you were trying to make about being mindful of your wording. In which case you should have stopped talking after that thought, because the rest of what you typed out was simply a meaningless guess.

I’ve struggled with self image and self esteem (and still do) and this is the type of guy who would make me legit cry
Something to note: if someone is genuinely struggling with motivation, self image, self esteem, etc., it’s probably something rooted much deeper than any “alpha-male-motivational-speaker” can comprehend or help with
100%
On point, and sometimes the whole “alpha-male-motivational-speaker” shit is the root of it. This people prey on the young and radicalize them, I've seen nice guys turn "absolute savages" because of this type of content...sad, man...
Absolutely right ✅
that’s why therapy exists. yes, it is expensive, but if someone decides to drop $500-2500 on a self proclaimed “motivational speaker” then i’m sure that they can also afford going to a therapist or like a support group (which usually targets a specific community). also, in addition to what you said, they plant these messed up ideas in their heads and i am almost certain that they don’t help anyone in the long run, if anything, these alpha men are shitty, egoistic and pretty misogynistic too.
The "advice" that motivational speakers spew is literally the opposite of what any therapist would tell you and I'm pretty sure it's actively harmful to those who do struggle with it
I'm so glad Curtis has stayed so humble after winning all those game shows in the 80s

The principal of my high school was a motivational speaker and I swear he was the weirdest person. Every assembly felt like an over the top business seminar. It always felt like he had no idea what actually went on at a high school and was just using us to test out new motivational material. He also had one of those face mics!
I recently revealed the genders of my two girlfriends. It got a lot of hate and now has 30 times more dislikes than likes. I am really sad that people can be so mean. Sorry for using your comment to talk about my problems, dear av
sounds like a heck of an assembly
Motivational speakers are a lot like fake psychics in that they say incredibly generic things but their audience is going to interpret those generic sayings to apply to their specific situation without even realizing it so they will attribute wisdom or knowledge to the psychic or speaker. It's a natural human instinct to relate to other humans and relate what other humans are saying to our situation. It's a basic part of human empathy. Unfortunately con artists know this and they use it to manipulate people. Which is why so many people believe in horoscopes and those psychics that claim to speak to your dead relatives and motivational speakers apparently.

that teacher skit happened to me when i told my fifth grade teach they/them could be used as singular pronouns and it ended bcos i started crying bcos i couldnt think of an example after she started counting down saying "go ahead go tell me when give us an example if ur so smart" and then the other kids got quiet bcos they felt bad
DUDE I'm so sorry. A teacher tried to do the same thing to me, too. I was like "if someone drops THEIR pencil you pick it up and give it back to THEM and THEY say thank you." I've been repping singular They pronoun since I was in elementary because of that one shit teacher, mainly because I was disgusted that she tried to incorrectly correct me lol. But I think it was a great coincidence, I ended up being nonbinary. I think it's insane that someone can grow up speaking a whole language where they regularly use singular They, and not even realize they do it. That teacher sucked, I'm sorry you went through that.

Me as a person in a wheelchair: yes! my disability/wheelchair isn’t the issue, the lack of accessibility, living in a world not built for us, and large amount of ableism that still exists nah not it- people are TOO nice to meee ♿️😂
The way neuro and physio-typical people perceive differently abled people is real strange. Almost a weird sense of jealousy.
@@ChezzaOuttaNowhere such people are just very insecure due to failing to achieve what they desire, as well as feeling lonely and not appreciated/recognised by people. They get so desperate to get the attention they're unable to get with their set of skills that it makes them jealous someone can actually have it (even when it's mere courtesy) - it's similar to how misogynists always focus on how "men are expected to open doors/carry things" whenever there's an argument about women's rights, as if it's relevant and the "extra niceties" they bring up are at all comparable to the issues discussed. Similarly, they will find any excuse to think to themselves that when someone else has what they want it is undeserved, and must be due to (for example) disability, since everyone is "too nice" - they can't face the fact that they're just not good enough. They almost wish they were in the same situation as they know they wouldn't get the "attention" otherwise, convincing themselves that even mere courtesy is some kind of special treatment (that they crave but can't have), therefore demonising it and staying ignorant to all the issues that come with disabilities. It all stems from hurt egos that are too fragile to face reality, and it's honestly pathetic.
@@ChezzaOuttaNowhere most typicals aren’t even aware that there’s a whole differently abled world out there that is absolutely different from how they function. It’s like we’re unicorns lol
@@ChezzaOuttaNowhere It’s so insane to me how so many people when they can’t relate on a personal level just decide that it’s ok to throw empathy out of the way.

"alpha male" sounds like boys who are emotionally stunted and neglected but instead of doing the work to identify their trauma/triggers just grew up into hurt men. the real boss move is to introspectively look within yourself and notice the shortcomings you have and deal with them and lean on others when you need help. A friend will always be there.
What if you got no friends or support to lean on though
@@pepperchan6471 yea ur right, it's hard for others to be there for you the way you want. i'm going thru so much and i have to somewhat be there for myself so idk.
@@pepperchan6471 seek a professional. not a motivational seeker or weird people with 0 credibility trying to steal your money, i mean a therapist. i'm of the belief that relying on friends and seeking help with family can lead to more harm than good, because not everyone is equipped to handle someone else's baggage and it's frankly not fair to expect that of everyone at all times.
you shouldn't be relying on friends or family for your mental well-being, that'll only drag you both down to the ground. you'll slowly ruin all your relationships by constantly dumping negativity on everyone around you and hoping to get positivity out of other people. you need to learn how to be stable and functional on your own first, and getting therapy might help you get your footing for that.
@@ayatoculus @kirin I'm not saying I like motivational speakers or anything, I find them cringey too. And yes, I know that one should not use friends or family as an emotional dumpster, because from a young age my own parents have unloaded their emotional baggage on me, effectively fucking me up.
However, a lot of people in my position CANNOT AFFORD THERAPY, and live in shitty countries where seeking help for mental problems is a huge stigma. I'm a minor, and am trapped in a abusive household and have no money. Lots of kids out there like me. Worst thing is that this is normal in my country. Services for child protection won't do shit. So I understand if someone turns to Motivational Speakers as a last desperate resort. It is easy to attract and manipulate emotionally vulnerable and lonely people.
@@ayatoculus that sounds much like victim blaming, also as the other comments said not everyone can afford a therapist, especially while being underage and in a non-supportive household. Or maybe they tried and had a bad experience (I got a shitty therapist [which my mom didnt even actually get for my mental health, she just wanted to get a paper saying that I needed a support dog or whatever so our dog could stay home] that costed hundreds and they literally just made me feel like shit and my mom got angry at me for "exaggerating" things. I know this was only 1 therapist and doesn't reflect on all the others, but lmao my mom ain't taking me to another one since she got the paper for the dog.
Also, saying that you shouldn't rely on friends or family is only your personal belief. My friends have been what are keeping me floating and alive. I understand than friends are not professionals and they are not equipped to help with your emotional baggage, but that isn't what it is about. It's just about having someone who you know likes you despite you thinking that you're shit. They just listen to me, I listen to them and then we play games together and forget the bad things. It's one of the only times I'm happy and having fun.
I really like how you bring your comedy around by bringing jokes you made previously into the new ones. I know that probably isn’t a thing you created or anything like that, but the jokes you make that incorporate that format I notice the most.

one of the best motivational speakers i’ve ever seen was a veteran who lost his sight while in action. His speech was about his pursuit of education after coming back home, and the difficulties he faced as a disabled person, and the value of education. Hearing him tell his story from a place of personal ups and downs was way more meaningful than any surface level “you can do it”
Do you know if he has a RUclips channel. I would love to hear about more about him.
sooo true. I find that shit motivational. Hearing people talk about ACTUAL adversity they had to overcome - makes you realize how lucky your are and more likely to make the most of each day imo
what a champ! the only good motivational speech I've ever heard was from muniba mazari, in which she told the story of her accident and how she ended up in a wheelchair and everything that followed!

you mean surface leather?
9:20 while I do get what he means, for some people in wheel chairs they hate when people are overly nice. Like treat them as regular as possible. But clapping when someone is about to speak is like not overly nice, it’s just regular nice
Maybe watch the full video to understand? You must know what it means when someone applauds you for being fake and inauthentic, he's forced to be nice, too scared to be otherwise.
13:30 when i was like. 8 or 9 i had to go to writing intervention at school bc i was a rlly slow writer (still am i just physically cannot write fast). we had to write a sentence abt what job we wanted in the future and why and i was writing 'i want to be a teacher because i like my teacher'. keep in mind i was only 8 or 9 and in WRITING INTERVENTION. all the other kids finished before me and then the teacher running the intervention yelled at me until i cried bc i was taking too long. also i already finished the sentence i just had to put a fullstop. and then she yelled at me again went i put the fullstop on bc she thought i was trying to make her shut up
lmao she was in her 40s bullying a little kid
I'm sorry, it is insane to tell at a literal child like that. You didn't deserve that

Yeah, when you've got nothing to say filler words and repetition really fill out your show/essay length.
men's motivational speakers just tell them to disrespect women and never cry, two things a man should never do. don't disrespect anyone at least for no reason, and it's okay to cry as a man, a woman, as a non-binary, as a human. it's human to cry.
I've seen this video five times or so and I just now realized Kurtis is saying "Paw Patrol" and not "Papa Troll"
Disabled people had to literally fight the Supreme Court to get even the most minuscule accessibility and anti discrimination rights but yeah they’re worried about people being too nice. He’s totally empathetic to disabled folks.
I had to argue to my school board so many times to get my accommodations. But yeah, the hardest part was that they were so nice :(
thought he meant like he was afraid of being infantilized or sum but nah that's way too wise for him
this is what empathetic means by the way: "showing an ability to understand and share the feelings of another."
i think the word you are looking for might be apathetic or unsympathetic :)

I've legitimately had a teacher exactly like this. Everyone hated him. He made the shy girl cry because she messed up a multiplication question just like this. She also got a kid to stand up at the front of the class so he could make fun of his appearance.
Same here, my 7th-9th grade teacher would love to point out how stupid and worthless people were if they didn’t get the full points on a test and got enjoyment out of berating KIDS for failing the classes because she wasn’t a good teacher 😭
I hope a student beats them up.
I was straight up getting flashback & triggered

Not always but 2/3 of my life I spend in a wheelchair. I can’t go anywhere and people constantly yell at me to “get out of the way” or “can I have a go” or “why do you get special treatment” and it’s not fun. So trust me people aren’t nice to wheelchair users

alpha male mentality is LITERALLY just toxic masculinity in shiny new clothes
Nah "alpha male" clothes still wouldn't be shiny nor new. But yeah, this and enforcing toxic masculinity on yourself and/or other men are basically the same ol' shit.
No one takes it seriously I feel like. I’ve only seen people rip on it but maybe that’s because I don’t watch Jake Paul who knows lmao
Yarp
not even to mention wolves dont even have "alphas" which makes the whole thing they based their rebranded toxic masculinity on completely incorrect. If you want to see the dominance and social hierarchy they talk about when being an alpha, a chicken is the best bet. They have a very strict pecking order and will seek to bully other chickens lower on the hierarchy

“be comfortable with yourself” was the only piece of value I saw come out if his mouth. Followed up by the smartest advice ever, just “don’t be uncomfortable” :)
rewatching a lot of your vids and oh my god this is the funniest thing ever
that’s actually a really common manipulation tactic with abusers. they are abusive to you and then try to convince you that it’s for your own good.
Owen had "I was bullied by my dad" energy.
This guy has the same energy as people who say "if you're depressed, just stop being depressed 😊"

The fact that people just talk... say the CRAZIEST sh**... and then keep on going without immediately unpacking how f**ked up it was... is literally what makes me stay inside for always. The only thing that is worse is the people listening eating it up instead of going "wtf!?"

I hate it when people use wolfs as examples of the whole “beta” and “alpha” superiority measures, when alphas are usually just the parents of wolf packs, they’re not even superior in strength. It’s literally just age.
"Alpha males"- No, no, don't be an average man, be an *old* man!!
