How to Power 100W USB Lights with D tap batteries photography camera video lighting zhiyun x100

- Most D-tap batteries only output up to 45w - 65w via USB-C. But now there is a little adapter that allows D-tap batteries (even the small ones like Came-tv and Smallrig 99) to output 100w of power for 100w USB-C PD lights like the Zhiyun X100. You must use a 100w PD USB-C cable, most USB-C cables are not 100w.

Man Thank you Markus, I ain't never won a thing. Now I own more selfie sticks than I've ever seen in one place lol. They came just in time and will be put to good use. Thanks again
Simplest and cheapest way I found to do this (assuming you have a usb powered light like the colber cl60m like I do) is buy a mini clamp and put it on your light stand. Then buy some make to male 1/4 to 1/4 male to male screws. Mount a cellphone tripod mount to it that screws down. Then buy a cheap 100w usb power bank charger. I bought a 20000mah 100w charger from Amazon for under $50. It comes with the 100w cable. When mounted to your light stand it’s also a nice counter weight. Powers my COLBOR at 100 percent for over an hour, at lower settings you get much more than that.
I’d post links but not sure if that’s allowed. Thanks Markus you’re the best!

@@MarkusPix that’s hilarious! I probably got the idea from you and just didn’t remember. Hope you’re having a great day Markus!
Markus deserves a MILLION subs!
I was literally looking for 100W usb c to d-tap last night… impeccable timing! Thank you for your video!
Have you tried the Feidu FD-100 or the Yidoblo zc-100? They’re half the price for supposedly the same power and form factor with the ability to use USB C and in the latter light’s case, built in NPF battery. And, you can buy them as daylight only, which on paper should be brighter than the Zhiyun’s light.
Check it out, I think it could be a fun comparison!
Literally just bought a vmount battery, i will be trying this as soon as it comes in. That’s awesome
As always great info Markus
pretty cool, thanks for showing
Great tip Markus. Me myself I also love to tinker around like what you do😅 it’s just fun to discover what works and what not.
Peace
just checked, I have only one d-tap and its from Rotolight and has 95 watts already, yet I like this little device you showed
Had to sub! Thanks for the great info!
Thanks for sharing.
TY, Good morning.
Hello Markus! First off, YOURE THE GOAT and love your advice. Gawdamm it's good! Second: do you have a photography course?
I see you are repping Nigeria. Love the shirt.
Nice video, PD, i think is power delivery
Thanks
I just got a V Mount to USB C PD plus 2 DTAP ADAPTER PLATE. Nitze V Mount Battery Plate with 8V/3A DC, 14.8V/3A D-tap and PD 3.0 USB-C Output Ports Mini V Mount Plate - N21-D6
I don’t know if the USB C PD is 100 watts, but it powers my MacBook Pro 15 inch, which is at least 60 watts. The Nitze costs $89. I like it better than a cable. The USB C modestly claims 5v at 2.4A, 9v at 3A and 12v at 2A. The highest stated power is 27 watts which is not even close to the real power this puts out. So by the stencil power rating is around 25 watts.
I believe the MacBook Pro requires 20v at least 3 amps.
love it. more hack for life
Markus
I got the shape from b&h for my Canon EOS R5c
I found a very easy workaround and that is by getting a dtap connector add on a car cigarette module and then just get in a 100 watt car charger with usb-c out.
Works absolutely amazing
I absolutely hate cigarette, lighter power adapters. They back out all the time. I convert them to Anderson connectors. These are the foolproof connectors used in power wheelchairs. They are available in smaller sizes to handle 10 amps but the big ones start at 50 amps and go to 100 amps.
Congrats.
Thanks for the tip! I was trying to find this exact adapter to get a decent PD output from my Vmount batteries to power the ZV-E1 (these late Sony cameras really hate dummy batteries and prefer being fed USB-C PD, as long as you have 9V and enough Amps, they keep the internal battery around 90% all the time.
Why would be there a problem with dummies? They are quite critical when avoiding overheating, which can happen even when shooting photos.
@@marcinmrzyglocki I do not know why Sony hates them, you have to ask them I guess, but on some newer cameras like FX30 or ZV- E1 Sony has disabled compatibility with dummy batteries and you can read it for example in SmallRig NPFZ100 dummy description, which camera models and since what firmware version it is not compatible anymore.
@@marcinmrzyglocki I have tried rhe dummy on my ZV-E1 and it kinda worked, but the camera behaved highly unreliably and made random resets, also made it very clear that the battery is not OG
❤Question❤ for indoor event coverage abd interviews. For youtube content creation not for money. For under 600 USD which of these 3 would you suggest.
□ Amaran 300c
□ Colbor CL220
□ NEEWER CB200C 200W
The rgb color doesn't matter to me btw, despite 2 of these having them. And the slight price difference is fine. If you have an alternative suggestion I am open to that.
I tried the wellmaking but find it a fit. But great product
Interesting, but I think you should be using a USB tester to measure actual power on these. The percentage indicator is logical, but very likely not actual.
Cheers 🍻
Hi Markus, love your channel. Just purchased 2 of the Shape 100 watts. Are you aware that your links for the 100 watt USB C cables are for extension cables and not male to male? Just wondering.
thanks for letting me know
How about zhiyun molus g200, any possibility to run this light with external powerbank source? Any workaround?
Exactly what I need! So any of these batteries with 99Wh and the dtap/usb-c adapter and it will help power a 100w light?
They should
Does the V mount battery have to be 100Wh to be able to go to 100%?
I have a light has internal battery and when I use this bidirectional adapter and connect to the light, it does reverse charging. The battery in the light charge my v mount battery. Not want we want. No idea how to fix it.
Contact the manufacturer for clarification. If it's not possible at all, change the light.
I'm quite sure it's design flaw problem (or feature if you likes to charge your phone that way)
PD = Power Distribution
I thought it stood for Punxsutawney Dave
False, Power Delivery.
Predominantly Diversified?
Pre-Diatomaceous?
Puny D-taps?
for a cable $60-$70 better to get the grip battery directly, it will cost less
Doesn’t the Zhiyun CX100 spec say the PD input is at 30W? So using anything more is not productive?
I've never seen that. It requires 100w PD to output 100w of light.
It requires a 100w PD source to produce 100% brightness (100w). A 30w source will only produce one third the light
Betteries put out more power!!! 😅😅😅
What are D tap batteries?
v-mount batteries
@@MarkusPix That's a new one on me. I though it might be a typo.
I guess batteries with D-tap slot, which is generally exclusive to V-mount batteries, thus interchangeable use.
@@marcinmrzyglocki I don't have a wide range of stuff. I have all Nikon bodies, Nikon and Olympus film cameras and I recently got a Sony A350 for the 14.2 mp CCD.
@@413TomaccoRoad but that's... a different decade :o Well, I don't have any V-mounts myself, I went with powerbanks and USB-charged NP-Fs for now.
Hey Markus, would you happen to have any ingenious ideas for color correcting those 4 foot shop lights you found. My idea was to glue magnets to the ends of lights, as well as onto custom cut gels. Also, you have changed my life in ways you'll never be able to appreciate in this life. Thank you for being so generous about sharing yourself with the world! You have the endless graduate of countless people!
Either gels on the lights or white balance the camera
@@MarkusPix THANK YOU MARKUS, you’re the man! Now, go get some sleep! Much love to you and Cara!
