Hey Nick, thank you so much for listening to these songs, and for adding Don't Dream It's Over at the end. I didn't include that one intentionally because it was their huge, huge hit, which I suspected you had heard before. It's a beautiful song. As others have said, Split Enz was big in the late 70's and early 80's that Neil performed in with his brother Tim. They were from New Zealand and were incredibly popular there and in Australia. Then after they finished up, Neil formed Crowded House in Australia, and Don't Dream It's Over was a massive hit. It was during this time that he earned his reputation for being one of our great songwriters. When Crowded House wrapped up, and their drummer, Paul Hester killed himself, it was a very emotional time. Neil went on to record a few solo album, and Liam Finn, who played guitar on those albums was his son. He did that reunion tour with his brother Tim and Split Enz, where the video for Message to My Girl was from, then went on to join Fleetwood Mac. That live version of Don't Dream It's Over from their final show as Crowded House was a perfect addition. Thank you!

Also the last clip was from their then farewell concert in Sydney. Neil reformed the band with bassist Nick Seymour and they have released several albums since. The event that prompted the reformation was the death of drummer Paul Hester in the mid 2000’s by suicide.

Split Enz have to be one of the most underrated bands ever. Neil and Tim Finn's harmonies were incredible along with their strong, original songwriting chops. Like Genesis, their early years (pre-Neil Finn) were quite theatrical (w/makeup!) and more musically adventurous. Nice pick and great reaction! Definitely do more Split Enz, go with: "One Step Ahead", "I Hope I Never", "My Mistake", "Sweet Dreams".

The gentleman playing the acoustic guitar in Message to my Girl is Neil's brother Tim (together they're the Finn Brothers and were both in Split Enz, which Tim founded; Liam is Neil's son, who is also a musician). Neil is a great songwriter, whose songwriting matured and became quite sophisticated. Crowded House was Neil's band when he moved to America, and on their third album, Woodface, Tim joined them. I've got over 1000 albums and Woodface makes any top ten list I put together. Some of my favorite stuff is just the two of them together - catchy jangly pop with brilliant harmonies. Glad you enjoyed these!

Kind of funny that this comes right after your Richard Thompson video because there's a direct connection: producer Mitchell Froom. His first album with RT, Daring Adventures, which includes "Valerie," was released June 1986. Crowded House's first album, which includes "Don't Dream It's Over," was released August 1986. He also produced the next two Crowded House albums and the next few by Richard, including Rumor and Sigh which you did a track from ("I Misunderstood".)

Nick this was great. Neil Finn and his brother Tim are both wonderful song writers. Crowded House had a string of great records in the 80's and I love them all. Great arrangements, great recrodings and songs that are cleverly written and engaging. They are more popular in Australia & New Zealand than they were here (much like Midnight Oil when it comes to popularity outside their native countries). Let me tell you Neil can write songs as good as any one can and it's a shame they've been overlooked here. Just one clever catchy tune after another but never dull or uninteresting. Thanks for this and to the person who suggested it.

I heard a song some time later by a group called Crowded House and loved it, so checked out an album, and ended up buying all the ones they had released at that time, so I was a bit late in finding them. Tim was in Crowded house for one album, Woodface, possibly CH's best album, although 'Temple Of Low Men' is a cracker. Phil Judd had a band called Schnell Fenster after he left Split Enz, they are worth checking too. Speaking of John Farnham, you should check out his version of 'Help' with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.....the entire performance and his vocal skills will blow your mind! Also Brooke Fraser, daughter of famous All Black Bernie Fraser sings a fantastic version of Distant Sun and it is, in my opinion, a better version. On that same album, "She Will Have Her Way", which is a 2005 album made up of Kiwi and Aussie women covering Neil Finn's songs, Natalie Imbruglia (Torn) sings "Pineapple Head" and Renee Geyer sings "Into Temptation". All three are stunning tracks.

    Hi!
How about making a music giveaway, when you post a potentially popular video?
    Let me explain:
    1. You have a potentially popular video. 2. You say you'll listen to five random songs that people mark in the comments [or you can choose by the number of "likes"[or both in different videos]]. 3. People write more comments. 4. You get more channel activity + have fun with your subscribers!
I just came up with this and haven't seen it anywhere else)

I love that the next suggested video on the "Hey Now" video was "Lost Patrol" by Big Country which was on one of my marathon requests- ruclips.net/video/F2ttDTZm-PI/видео.html

Correct pronunciation is "Splutt Inz". (I'm just simulating picking a fight with New Zealand, here. "Hypocritically", since I have an accent that does not just the Splutt Inz sound, but goes beyond. Well I would, if I didn't speak "BBC English" - but that's boring.)
The Enz bit is a play on "NZ", I think. (For the name, "Nurh Zuhlind".) Better dash. They're tough down there. Scariest people on Earth.

One of their fans is the singer of a little band called *Pearl Jam* - Eddie Vedder. Here he is, singing *History Never Repeats* in Auckland. ruclips.net/video/9QVkMO-JJwg/видео.html

Another of their fans was the late *Tim Smith* of (i.a.) the band now called *Spratley's Rats* . From their song, *Vine* I get the feeling he was also an ABBA fan (as well as being a fan of all the little creatures that scratch, chirp, and chitter in the undergrowth of the various jungles of the Earth). ruclips.net/video/DqFl_oMuTRI/видео.html

Some of Tim's fans (and so, by extension, Split Enz/ Finn Bros. fans) are the members of Bergen band *Major Parkinson* . I think they're also fans of Chopin, if the song *Adville* is anything to go by. ruclips.net/video/UBBvMN_d730/видео.html

I don’t like Crowded House at all. I love the album ‘Together Alone’. Square that circle.
