I've commented before about Mick's voice and how it's uncanny how good he still sounds. His live performances are exactly the same as the recordings. That's how I felt in love with Simply Red, the band of my life. First time i"ve heard Sunrise, I told: OH MY GOD. I WAS COMPLETE OBSESSED WITH THIS SONG. "Let's check other songs of this band..." " I KNOW THIS SONG! AND ALSO THIS ONE! " so i've discovered that ALL MY FAVOURITE CHILDHOOD SONG were made by Simply Red. They helped me on my worst period of my life, they have saved my life. And now, 21 years afterwards, I have all their albums, cds, vinyls, gadgets, I went to their last Italian concert on 2010, and my love for this band never will end.

As a young man,I have to be honest I simply didn't rate Simply Red. I could take them or leave them. It's only truly now,decades later that I've grown to love them. Still sampling and discovering their rich canon of work. Mick hucknells voice has so much soul. There's nothing like the vibe he can bring to songs it's so natural to him, a true gift. One minor quibble with this song. Before the wonderful chorus kicks in, his voice is barely audible. Always love lex's spontaneity, she shares her joy so wonderfully.Nick is more analytical I find. But they're always an authentic watch. I appreciate that chemistry between them. Id largely forgotten this song and their perceptive ,enthusiastic insights makes me appreciate this song even more.

This, to me, is a perfect pop song. (well, one of many) It has a nice bass line, it grooves like crazy, strong production, atmosphere, great vocals, and a catchy melody. It sounds simple, but not trivial. It´s very approachable but you can still appreciate some nice musicianship there. I love the arpeggios on the keys it creates a nice mood and the distant guitar strumming in the chorus is very cool. It feels like a victory 😀 The whole song sounds and feels very good and it really is too short.

Lots of great songs by Simply Red still to discover. My personal favourites are 'The Right Thing' and 'A New Flame' - Both upbeat and both were huge hits in the 80's. Other massive hits in the 90's were 'Stars', 'For your babies', and 'Fairground'.

Simply Red has always done well in the UK but kind of fell off the charts in the US after initial success. However, this song did well here. Hall and Oates stayed pretty popular here for decades, so SR got a good boost again! Since several have begged for H&O next, especially their song sampled here by Simply Red, please please add "Sarah Smile." For Simply Red, try "Fairground" for up-tempo dance.
You've got to do some of their live stuff from Cuba, I think with the Bueno Vista Social Club I think, it will blow you away. And you also haven't even got to what I think their best album is yet - Stars. I think you'd love Something Got Me Started, Thrill Me and the title track Stars, as well as For Your Babies, a slower song, but I still love it. In fact just listen to the whole album!!! Not a bad song on the whole darn thing!!!

I am pretty sure you'll not choose this - but even to listen to privately, Wonderland is simply stunning vocally - very reduced music shows off his voice so well and another member of the band too. I was 14 when Stars came out, and played my cassette to death - this was the last track on Side 2 and it was my sheer Heaven that I needed at the time. I can highly recommend the pure beauty.

Hall and Oates are from Philadelphia about 30 miles east of where I live, I grew up enjoying and Loving Hall and Oates, great music.
