Found this video years ago and back then I knew this will be saving me one day... Today's the day and I'm a happy man now... main button working again! You really helped me, thanks a lot!
i have another good tip which worked perfect for me. my right cursor button didnt respond well, so i changed this one with the one on bank d, which i never used before. this one works now way better as cursor.
@NorthgrindMusic I think the tact switches under the button are likely the issue. I have the same problem w/ 3 of my plastic buttons (left, down, mode). I don't know anyone that can solder and haven't had luck finding someone reliable to fix it. Not too fun. Let me know if you figure out your situation.
@mcarthurdylan yeah, those are harder plastic though so they prob shouldn't break. hope the actuall button underneath isn't broke. my actuall button underneath just broke and I had to solder a new one in.
@professorquack i have a problem with the arrow keys, but they dont seem to be broken... i mean the plastic... it just needs to press HARD for it to take the press. you think this kinda fixing what you just did in the video could help me with it? peace
Brilliant and uber usefull. Why dont yu post it on MPC Forums dude......this is a great fix for a common problem on both the bk models and the earlier pad wank models. good props
Looks brilliant, I'll definitely try this - just pushed too hard on the erase button, which is now working better, but clearly 'wobbly' and probably broken. By the way what size tape do you use (I'm in Europe), is it standard size stuff, or do you need to look for something in particular? In the meanwhile, I'd be interested to read if people have tried this, and how well it worked. Thanks again, great video.
Just used this trick to fix the broken buttons on my APC40mkII, and it worked great, thanks! Disappointed that Akai is still using the same crappy button design from 10 years ago.
My bad I meant the MPC 2500, I just replaced the card reader on it now none the buttons are working? The first time I replaced the card reader the headphone jack it would only give me sound out of the right headphone. Then I took it out and reinstall the old one and was still getting sound out of only one headphone. then I reinstalled the new one again and none of the 16 pads would work. I'm confused and a little disappointed because that replacement card reader board cost a 110 $. Any ideas what I should try next
@NorthgrindMusic you likely need to replace the button. check ebay for this "6mm 5mm Tact" and grab a buddy that can solder it in. I'd replace a few while you are in there.
Peace, I know this video is old however I am in need of assistance. I recently changed the tact cursor switches in my 2000, now none of the buttons work. The machine boots perfectly and all ribbons are connected. Any assistance is appreciated...
i did this twice and it didn't work, is my button just fucked? it wasn't broken when i opened it up, it just didn't work, so i broke it and did this but i'm guessing its just a different more serious problem with the button?

You really helped me, thanks a lot!
Just got one and main is dead 😑
this video is more relevant today than ever before....these buttons are now very old...
He said “Double sided tape , the thin kind” and it’s the thickest double sided tape I’ve ever seen.
I think he said "the 3M kind". It is 3M scotch mounting tape.
You're genius. Thanks a zillion for this, cos ordering buttons from my country costs a huge amount of cheddar. Salute
yo thank u man.... "this actual fix lasts longer than a new button" ... you persuaded me to do your fix instead of buyin new buttons. cool!
Preciate you bro still out here saving lives
lol, glad it helped

@crayyawn I found a "Small Tact Switch for MPC Under Button," a little sensor under the button, i imagine that's what i need?
Any videos or knowledge on common problems with the MaoC 2500
Does this fix work for the arrow keys also?

Thank you! I imagine it's the "window" and "mode" buttons most of the time. I'm going to fix my window button today! yay.

thanks man!
unfourtunatly it doesn't work on the big buttons, they ar setup a little different.
Doesnt work for mpc 3000 big buttons. I glued them with super glue. Better buy new 3d printed buttons for 3k and mpc60
Brilliant. Worked perfectly.
Just did the same repair on a different button 3 years later and I had to come back to this video to remember the exact method.
@MachineGunBallad you gotta pull it hard by the sides, but I'm sure you got it out by now lol.
mine is under the metal time for the fix thanks
Awesome. Will try this soon :)
