    Bump stops are cushions that dampen the lower control arm and prevent the lower control arm from impacting the frame if you hit a hard bump. If you lift your vehicle, it’s recommended you extend the bump stops as well.
    So why is this? A lifted suspension increases lower and upper travel. An extended bump stop helps prevent a bound up and cracked coil during extreme impacts or articulation, as well as prevents the suspension from fully bottoming out.
    An extended bump stop is relatively cheap insurance to help protect your expensive suspension. There are front and rear bump stops, which are of different types. This video will show the front bump stop installation.
    I chose the Energy Suspension Bump Stops, which are about $33 on Amazon, made in the USA, and are significantly less expensive than other after market bump stops. Even though they may say that they don’t fit, they do in the front of the 5th Gen 4Runner.

    I started by removing the stock bump stops. This required a large pipe wrench. If it isn’t loosening fairly easily, you may need to apply some penetrating oil. I didn’t do this on the driver’s side and actually sheared a bolt off, which required a trip to the shop to drill out the bolt. The passenger side bump stop, however, came off without a problem.
    For easier access, use a jack to lift the weight off the suspension. You can also take the wheel off if you don’t want to work at awkward angles.
    Apply thread locker to the bolt to prevent loosening due to vibrations. I chose medium strength that can still be loosed with tools and without heat.
    Thread the new bump stop on and tighten. Don’t over tighten though. Then lower the vehicle and repeat on the other side.
    You won’t really notice the extended bump stops unless you are reaching near maximum upper travel with off roading, or if you have a hard impact. It’s good to do though to help protect your lifted suspension.

    nice i bought the same bumps for my very cheap spacer lift from amazon lol. im hoping the longer length of these bumps will prevent the vehicle from bottoming out on the shock tower

      I’ve had these almost a year and no problems so far. I think they’re a great option for a good price. Hope they work well for you!

      @@sunroomstudios8487 Worth it to upgrade the rear bump stops also?

      @sunroomstudios8487  9 месяцев назад

      Yep, it’s on my to do list. I just prioritized the front first. It’s more important if you experience full compression, which I haven’t yet.

    Thank you for sharing this video, I knew energy suspension had a bump stop that would work for the forerunner can you tell me what you used for the rear?

      I actually didn’t upgrade the rear yet, it’s on my to do list. Not sure what I’ll go with yet, I’ll need to do some research. When I do, I’ll make a video. Thanks for watching!

      @@sunroomstudios8487A lot of people are using factory (or equivalent) rear bumps from a 03-09 GX470 in the rear... They're longer than 4runner but bolt right up.

      @@davinx486 oh no! That’s what I did too. Toyota dealer wanted $600 to extract the bolt but I found a local auto shop that works on off road vehicles and they did it for about $200, and they installed the bump stop I brought in. It’s a big job to extract the bolts if they shear off. I didn’t have to tools to do it. Good luck and let me know how it goes!

    Hi, what did you use for the rear?

    • @sunroomstudios8487
      @sunroomstudios8487  6 месяцев назад

      I haven’t upgraded the rear yet. I’m wondering if the added weight and cost is worth it for what I do. For now, I just use a shackle hitch for a recovery point and it works well. If I had to choose right now though, probably C4.
