Wow this trip reminds me of when I took my MacGregor 26S on the ferry from Vancouver to Sprout Lake, Vancouver Island. The trip was very similar with seeing a bear and bald eagles, but only on fresh water. The MacGregor is now on Lake St Claire close to Detroit. LOL
Boostfin for power assisted paddle boarding, best accessory for paddleboard ever! we have a 12 volt charger for ours and charge it while we fish, like your spray dodger bimini setup.
The dodger and Bimini, i.e. the full enclosure is a game changer and highly recommended. It was the first upgrade we did and I can’t imagine going on a trip without it.
@@jeremysmith5232 they are not specifically rated so far as I know for a 90 or 115 hp, but I look at the weight as perhaps the biggest concern and the weight of these bigger engines is in the same ballpark as engines I know have got the okay for a Mac. I.e. 20 to 30 pounds more plus or minus. Although people say the Transom will break, I actually have sat on my motor and I am not particularly light and I have seen no problems. I have two seasons under my belt with the 115 and know of 90s (the other 26x in this video) been used with no problem for over a decade.
Realistically, how much sailing do you do out of 100% on the water time? Not a dig, just curious as I'm looking at a Mac, but it seems like a lot of them are just motored around. Even the model M in this vid didn't have a mast up. Can't beat the space of the Mac with the outboard compared to a 26 ft power boat, but is it really used for sailing or a trailerable boat with an outboard. Which is pretty rare for a cabin cruiser under $30K from those years. Not to mention you more than doubled the HP from stock!! LOL Fellow Canadian BTW. Looking to sail the 1000s islands.
Thank you for your question Peter. Aside from wind conditions, there are two big factors determining how much you sail: your schedule and your crew. If you are not in a hurry, you can sail as much as you want. But if your crew wants to get to the destination and doesn’t have the patience for the slower speed of sailing or don’t like the healing you will find you don’t sail very much. For two years I tended to leave the mask at home unless the trip was going to be longer than a long weekend because although I don’t mind rigging the boat, my crew preferred not to have to wait at the ramp. Sadly, I separated from my wife before last season, but it did mean that I sailed every chance I got . I haven’t posted a video of my trip to desolation sound last season, but when I do, you will see the sails up whenever conditions were good. If you check out my Instagram, Kennethpool there are some photos and videos from last season, including a photo of sailing all the way up Jervis Inlet, and also on route from smuggler Cove to Vancouver. The latter was motor sailing where the motor was providing about five or 6 kn and the sails and waves were frequently taking the boat over 10 kn. Admittedly, it’s not recommended to take the boat over 7 kn with the Rudders down, but I took the chance. It was a blast. Let me know if you have any other questions. Oh, and the M in the video didn’t have a mast because it had a mishap and the mast was damaged. Normally, he would’ve had the mast with him.
@@KenPool Thanks for the reply! How does she point to weather, and what degree do you think the heel is? Seems fine on a reach or run. Also, while I know there are some significant differences between the X and M interior and seems to be much better polished overall, would you consider one over the other if all things were equal? There are more X's for sale then M's, maybe for a reason. Finally is the 50Hp Honda underpowered? I'm assuming with water ballast you'd be luckey to crack 8-9 kts flat out.
@ I have an 26X and wasn’t aware there was a 26M when I was looking to buy, but I’m glad I have what I have because with the full enclosure the larger cockpit is wonderful plus access at the transom is also greater and more room for a larger motor, for example. If the weather is too much on the nose, I just drop the sails and use the motor. I’m pretty sure it’s not as good as a conventional sailboat, but I’m more than willing to accept that for all the other benefits. If you have a family absolutely get a 26X with a full enclosure assuming you may run into cooler weather. Or rough seas where there is spray coming over the boat. I had a Honda 50 previously and without ballast I believe I was able to get up to 12 knots But it was very noisy at that speed. I never healed the boat at an extreme angle. I just know that at almost any angle. My crew was not particularly happy.😅
It really depends on the weather and how fast you can go. For this trip we crossed on the ferry which takes about 1h 40m and the drive to Port Alberni.

Hello from Turkiye
Love the photos with your fisheye lens!
Glad you like them!
I love your content! I day dream of sailing and would love my own trailer sailor :) one day soon!
Great excursion. Cheers 🥂
Another great video, BC tourism should be paying you.
Thank you.
Great video thanks for sharing
keep the macgregor videos coming.
Thank you for the encouragement. I need to get cracking on my one from desolation sound last summer.
You have a monster motor on there.
WOW - Looks like so much fun - Doing this in 2024? We have a 2001 26X (with a 26M mast and rigging)
I believe we're heading back to Desolation Sound this year (2024). Desolation has the advantage of freshwater lakes at many key anchorages.

amazing that you have a 115 on your 26x, did not know they were rated for that, we have 45 honda on our macgregor19

Beautiful scenery
Have you ever been told that you sound like John Malkovich 😂
😄 I haven't, but it did cross my mind at one point.

How long does it take to sail across the Georgia Strait?

Where did you get that canopy cover for your boat ??
