Hi, first off, thanks for sharing your knowledge here in RUclips. You helped me a lot. Regarding the link layer adaption, I have a router with a LTE sim on it. My isp link is through LTE. What do you recommend for my link layer settings?
Hey, just wanted to say that, despite these videos being somewhat old now, I really appreciate the walkthrough that you did, even showing speed tests on your end, even off of your phone. Being able to see that sort of stuff was very helpful. Thank you!
You just earned yourself a lifetime sub thank you so much for these videos you have no idea how hard it is to find guides like this for the GUI instead of the CLI

Good video, however, on a 100mbps connection, I can happily set the speed cap at 95mbps and do a speed test with no latency increase while its running, however, when downloading lets say a game from steam the ping will still fluctuate all over the place, it would be best to test on something that isn't speed test to really check what your ping will do...
thank you for video, can i request you do a video where you can limit bandwidth per mac usage, for example if a user reaches 1gb download it stops the internet. also a captive portal wifi tutorial would be really good, thank you for all your videos
Please consider zooming in on your screen. It’s very difficult to follow or please consider changing your color scheme just for tutorial purposes. Thank you. Great content btw!!!
I am on default setting for all - color scheme, scale, display at 1920x1080 resolution. Can I know which part is difficult for you to see? Are you watching the video from a smartphone's screen?
hello I have seen a new type of qos and is called QoSify do you have any idea what is that, I do not have anything knowledge about networks, but I watch your videos and ai learn something, can you make a video about that, maybe making a comparative or instructive guide about means, utilities and how to use QoSify?
Can i set up this in asus old wifi 4 router and set up this speed for each ap ? My main router is mikrotik, and for APs i use old one asus and tp link routers. On my network i have simple que and mangle rules on mikrotik, but i want to limit speed for also each ap. So when i have 40mbps internet i want to have in each room 20mbps with mangle rules, and when i start download some files i will have stable internet in the second room.
Bro Which Internet are you using you ? Can some outside from Taiwan can get it ? I am Asia ! And can also explain the price of the plan are using ? Btw Very good video!
Hi bro, I am currently in Vietnam. It is fiber optic internet provided by one of the ISP - Viettel. I am on 200 Mbps plan and montly cost around 480 TWD. The service is only available locally so I don't think you can get it in TW. By the way, how is Chunghwa FTTH service in Taiwan?
Can you make a tutorial on how can we share vps interent to other PC or there is any possibilities we can do it through different way?or can we do port forwarding of rdp to any router
Hey, sorry for the late response. To answer your question, it is impossible to do. We are creating a tunnel between our computer/router to the VPS when setting up the VPN connection. Let's say that tunnel speed is fast, but all the traffic is still go to that VPS via your WAN connection, which is limited by the ISP.
Hello! quick questions: I have recently flashed openwrt on my TPLink WR841N V11. Everything went smooth. Now I have trouble understanding things 1. Should I disable DHCP on modem and let my openwrt modded router do its thing? 2. How do I port-forward and enable NAT, setup dmz for my game servers? 3. How do I give my PC a static IP so that I dont have to manually port forward on assigned IP? 4. Does SQM work right away or do I have to do some configuration to enable SQM? I have 6 users on 8mbps adsl connection and all I want is to have stable gaming pings while my homemates stream/download. Thank you
Not sure if you can help with this but I'll go ahead anyway. I have a Eero mesh that has SQM turned on. However, it doesn't support PPoE bridge mode so my modem router is configured as double NAT with wifi turned off. I've added the routers DMZ address and forwarded UPnP. Is there any other settings I should check/enable for double NAT to work as smoothly as possible?
Is it possible to use this in conjunction with dual wan(mwan3)? As I see it, it seems that you assign SQM to only one WAN port. Would it be possible to have another instance that would be assigned to another WAN port? thanks again for the tutorial!
Yes, absolutely. You configure SQM for multiples interface, not only the WAN port. I have another video where I use SQM to control the traffic of LAN / WiFi.
You are using a snapshot version thus it is outdated. (For RPI 4 there are only snapshot firmware instead of the stable release so it may be outdated in 1 or 3 days when a new build is available). Try to get the sysupgrade firmware and update the router to the latest one, and you should be good to go.
Hi, did you solve the problem? If not, I would suggest checking your throughput before enabled SQM. And then, use this value to configure the throughput for the interface in SQM.
Hi, this v2ray is too complicated and I am not really understand the application of it, especially when it is installed on openwrt router. The package is not on openwrt master so it is hard for me to make a video of it. Here is the link to the package & installation, you can try at your own risk: github.com/kuoruan/openwrt-v2ray
hi. thanks for the explanation. How SQM relates to the use of VPN? I am connecting to PIA. Should I still use the 85% of the ISP speed or the speedtest results (that goes via VPN)? Thanks
I made some testing. when set the SQM download and upload speed to 0, my WAN speed is substantially better. Any value as per openwrt documentation (85% or 95%) would cut my speed really a lot. Any idea why is that? I than added the software flow offload and I have increased in speed and latency. In the link layer adaptation Minimal packet size, MPU I set 64 (not sure that had impact on results. Documentation suggested to put 64). I than activated my openvpn client. Naturally I lost quite a bit of speed but became much better than before. QUESTION: Would it be unwise to add a new SQM where I use tun0 as a interface name? Thank you
- if you set the download / upload speed to 0, there is no limitation perform by QoS and your latency may increase which make QoS useless. If you want a full speed throughput, better not use it. As stated in the document "The 80-95% range mentioned above is a good starting point, but you can often gain more speed while still controlling latency by making a couple experiments to adjust the settings". You can find the link to the docs in the video description. - for VPN SQM/QoS, you can refer to this forum discussion. I believe it should help forum.openwrt.org/t/solved-sqm-with-a-vpn-what-interface-name-what-packet-overhead/57473

Hi, I can see that you already done all the necessary thing. From my understanding, no further stuff you can do in this case.
How can I have place a group of users on a given IP range and limit their download speed ? Is this possible on openwrt ?

Basically you can, but better configure it mwan3 instead
