- Fresh from the post, here's an unbiased comparison between the new SACD and other digital incarnations of the famous progrock album. My aim is to help out those of you who are on the fence about purchasing and also to know opinions from people who have already heard the SACD and compared it to other digital reissues.

First time to see your channel and enjoyed your honesty- very refreshing- I have this on Japanese SACD and it is wonderful plus I have the vinyl too! Will be watching more in the future!

Thanks for your very thorough review, I'm considering giving this remaster a go. The Nick Davis remasters/remixes give me ear fatigue very quickly.
Not a bad idea. It sounds good. Consider buying the nimbus original cd as well. It is inexpensive and you can make your own comparisons. Forget the Nick Davis remixes. Atrocious: compressed, limited, a headache!

I've only recently discovered your videos, but you've already become a trusted source. Thanks for your thoughts. I have a dedicated SACD player (Marantz SA-14) for mono and stereo, and use an OPPO blu-ray player for 5.1 surround. I have the AP vinyl, but I don't think I'll go for the SACD unless I find it for a decent price on the secondary market. I too have have burned vinyl needle drops onto CD-R, with some remarkably good results, especially for 12" 45 rpm singles and EPs...

I really enjoy the Nick Davis remixes, but I'm listening to the SACD, not the CD layer. *Trespass* and *Nursery Cryme* are magnificent and those recordings needed a remix, maybe due to poor quality in the original stereo tapes. The comments and your original review make me wonder if everybody is clear on the concept of a remix. Nick Davis did the 2007 remix for *Selling England.* The remaster of that album was done by Tony Cousins.

unless the trasport has an I²S output. Acoustic Sounds used to have the Genesis DSD files for download, but they have stopped offering DSD downloads. I really enjoy your well considered reviews~

All SACD (PDM) is locked and thus requires the Sony chip to work properly. Also, many consumer grade BluRay players have problems with Hybrids. PS Audio has a way around this with their transports. I²S is the better option for any SACD as SPDIF and Toss are again consumer grade junk!

Hi I always like your no nonsense and honest contributions. I’ve the very same Virgin/Charisma cd (with the ugly cropping 😅) and it’s my go to copy for digital. Please check if you also have the Nimbus mastering written in the run out section.
Yes, it is a nimbus mastering . Sometime ago I made a point of having the best possible sounding Genesis cds. With hindsight, it was quite foolish of me because, being a vinyl guy, I spent an indecent amount of money on items that now sell for peanuts. But, although I hardly play them now, they are still useful to make comparisons. Well, and to play them, what the heck!. Thanks for your input
Hi, I got the SACD recently (bought from an Italian shop, so avoiding all the problems of customs and so on) but I was not so happy with it (I can only listen to the CD track). My comparison was with the German vinyl first press (thanks to one of your videos) and, to be honest, I expected much more improvement respect to the old mastering. I don't have another CD copy to compare with, apart the 2008 remix&remaster version, but one thing that I noticed is that the "A side" tracks of the AP version sounds noticeably worse than the "B side" ones. For example, I enjoyed much more Firth of the Fifth in the German vinyl than in the SACD. Have you noticed any difference among A and B sides tracks?
BTW, "noticeably worse" for me means that even in a casual listening I can hear some differences in quality. Other persons may not notice it unless they keep focused on the sonics
No. My German pressing is consistent. You must have got a late stamper. Make sure it's the first pressing since the mastering was on constat use during the 70s, not all copies sound the same. Hope that helps. And yes, the German pressing sounds better than the SACD, hands down. Thanks for your input
@@obre9523 thank you! The difference I heard between the A and B side traks are on the SACD and not in the vinyl, which instead is consistent. I referred to A and B for simplicity

I have a UK press LP and a Japanese Black Triangle CD. The CD is far superior....
Have you compared the BT to any other digital incarnations?
