- NOTE [3/22]: Since the release of these boost controllers over a decade ago, we have switched to one style of mounting bracket for both the 08-14 WRX and 05-09 LGT, rather than the two mentioned versions in this video. Please see product page for example of the newest bracket style and reach out to support@grimmspeed.com with any installation questions: www.grimmspeed...
GrimmSpeed introduces the most complete and easy to use 3-Port Electronic Boost Solenoid available on the market. Our aftermarket boost controller allows you to raise the OEM boost levels in a quick and efficient manner. If you try to raise the boost on the weak OEM boost solenoid it will start to become unpredictable and unable to maintain proper and safe boost levels. Using our solenoid you are able to spool your turbo quicker and maintain a rock solid boost level. We have made our solenoid to withstand 120psi, way more than any Subaru will see.
Revolutionizing the Subaru boost solenoid market, we have created model specific install brackets that allow you to directly fit our Boost Solenoid into your Subaru for a factory fit. No more Zip-tying! We give you the factory fitment you have been waiting for.
Staying with the OEM fitment theme, our Boost Solenoid uses a Subaru style wiring harness so you can simply unplug your OEM solenoid and plug ours in. No more cutting the oem wiring and crimping wires together!
Also new to the Subaru boost solenoid market, we have used ultra low-profile hose fittings to keep the unit as small and clean as possible. The hose fittings are nickel plated brass so you don't have to worry about them snapping off like the plastic hose fittings!
More Features:
Users can use AN fittings with the solenoid.
MAC Valve's has completely custom made the valve for us(only MAC valve on the market to be custom made for automotive tuning use).
Specifically designed by GrimmSpeed to work safely with the factory Subaru ECU (requires tuning) and to reliably handle the vibrations and temperatures of your engine bay!
The only direct bolt in design for all Subaru models. Direct bolt in mounting bracket and hardware included! (specify which model before ordering)
Faster response and greater flow than any other valve out there. (by more than 10%!)
Nickel plated brass fittings. (unlike the competitors failure prone plastic fittings)
This BCS will handle all your boost control needs no matter what your power goals are.
havent talked to you guys in a while ,man oh man y'all have been busy by the number of video's,thats awesome, couldn't happen to a better group of guys,i had to look at this video to try and see where a hose went,i had one blow off today coming home, but i found it.keep up the work dudes.peace.
Thanks for posting up a great installation video! All aftermarket manufacturers should be doing this.
Awesome! We appreciate the enthusiastic support! -Matt Homes
Unfortunately they can slide out of the top of the box in some cases, my guess is that is what happened in this instance. We will be sure to get one in your next order!!
-Matt Homes
Best video explaining how the electronic boost controller is installed god bless ❤️
Glad we were able to help you out on the install!
straight shot right onto the nipple guys. ya cant miss
@ChicanoRockero Yes it does, if the car is not tuned it may cause it to overboost. Hope this helps!
Will
Will it be alright to drive the car approximately 40 miles to the tuner with this installed? I will baby it there and have a base map installed from ther tuner.
Yes, the waste gate duty cycles are not the same as the OEM valve. You will need your vehicle tuned accordingly for the our 3-port solenoid. -Matt H.
2:53 LOL! That's NOT what she said. But 3:05 definitely! Anyway, very helpful video. Thanks for posting it.
The solenoid will work on pretty much any vehicle that utilizes and electronic boost control solenoid. Depending on the year, the actual bracket itself may not work perfectly, but it should function all the same once its been tuned for. -Matt H.
If the car is properly tuned this can help prevent boost creep. The Cobb stg 2 will not be enough.
It depends if the COBB tune takes into account for the our 3-port solenoid or not. If it's for the stock 2-port BCS, then you will need a re-tune for your 3-port. Typically, you will see the largest gains having your specific vehicle tuned for your applications. -Matt Homes
how can i get my car tuned and where ?
Awesome video I followed every step and I installed it with zip ties on every connection
Either way is fine, it comes down to the preference of the tuner. A state with strict emissions might not like the "vent to atmosphere", that would be the only drawback. -Matt Homes
:D I definitely plan on purchasing the GS license plate re-locator soon. ill look forward to that greeting card!
how do you install the sticker? can you make a vid please
😅🤣🦾😷
How about the restrictor pills? You removed the oem to wastegate and didn’t see you replace the pills. My tuner said this year needs the pills and I have proven that as mine kept throwing codes and weak boost without. May get your BCS to see if I get any notable improvements.
@GrimmSpeed Oh alright! Haha, I was confused at first! Thanks again!
Good point. I guess I'll just ask the guy who will be tuning my car.
This is why I love grimmspeed
What is the differences on those solenoids for Subaru? I see many sell them for "WRX" and another sells it for "STI", another for "FXT" etc. Isnt it the same if the connector fits? Im looking into buying one for my Forester Turbo S but its a nightmare finding the right one . If it's the same as long as its Subaru Turbo, im good.
Nice Watch
I had my car tuned with a 3port BCS, my tuner installed it for me and tuned it with the intake valve left to vent and inlet plugged up. he said it's not needed to connect intake valve to inlet hose, it's for emission reason. Is this ok? and would it change the tune if I plug the intake valve to inlet hose?
At 1:42 you can see the hose is connected down at the bottom by your right hand, and when it transitions at 2:04, the hose is disconnected. Which hose is that, which you disconnected? Because at 5:43 you say the hose connects to the "stock location" but i don't understand what hose you removed from there in the first place. Sorry about the noob statement, I'm looking to get a WRX very soon and was curious about this. Thank you!
Hi, which boost controller fits the 2012 SH XT Forester? Has an engine cover.
Perrfect fuckin video man! Appreciate it
grimmspeed are some super cool dudes as for this damn car,,,,shit.i have the 2013 WRX and did a boost leak test today and that sucked ass.i googled all over the internet looking to see which vacuum lines to plug off and could not find exactly how many there are.like its a fucking secret.there are four. FOUR of them,if your going to do this, buy a pair of long curved needle nose pliers guys.they will help big time.i didn't have them of course.if you have questions about it, holler at me.
how hard is it to get it tuned after the boost controller is installed
well if you live driving distance to a pro tune company,no problem just money, but the closes place for me is 2.5 hours away,so i tried to go with a E tune which can be pretty hard if your not familiar with computer programs like spread sheets.i still haven't installed my parts yet.i tried the E tune, but the first map he gave me,my car ran messed up,so back to boost leak testing.
Dam, that must suck bro. Thanks for the info
I got the bracket for the legacy although I ordered the controller which said it was 08-14 wrx. Where do I get the right bracket???
@23stealer23 Hey man great question!!! That one that is disconnected is the return to inlet hose. If you are running the BCS with an IWG and NOT an EWG then port 1 on the bcs will be routed here!
Will
do i need to get a pro- tune after this or a cobb accesport would be good enough?
I'm running an OTS Cobb Stage 2+SF intake tune using an Accessport. Would I still need to retune if I install this? I have an 08 WRX and have been overboosting because I'm running a catless downpipe at the moment. It would just be nice to not constantly overboost in the meantime while I collect parts for my 20g build.
Hello, curious if I can make this wrx ebcs model fit onto a 2011 sti? @grimmspeed
what sucks is I can't do anything to my rig there nowhere closeto me that tunes subaru.... closest is lake placid lol...3 hours from me. long haul for a tune. is there anything I can buy to tune myself...accurately...and safely?
i have a 2010 wrx.. i noticed on my OEM BCS that the vac line that runs from the outside nipple to the inlet like how it is in this video was is different then mine. mine had the vac line from inlet to the middle nipple on my oem bcs and the outside nipple going to the wastegate/turbo vac line... mines opposite of yours.. can anyone confirm how it should be or if it matters, car had a rebuild 10 000km ago and they could have installed it wrong, thanks hope for a reply
I just bought an 08 wrx, the previous owner installed this ebcs before i bought it, and basically it is running weird so i need to know is there any way for me to tell if they installed the tune when they installed the solenoid. I am thinking that is my problem but i dont know for sure. I have been running it with the the mass air flow sensor unplugged from the air box, like this it runs really well except idle is a little high, but when i plug it back in automatically the idle drops down way low amd becomes erratic amd even driving the car like this it seems to miss fire. Can you tell if this might be my problem?
Can you elaborate a little more on the problem you are having? -Matt Homes
Why isn't this metal braket included anymore? Just got mine from RallySportDirect and it only came with the LGT bracket.
That's a question for our support team. Send an email over the support@grimmspeed.com. One of our customer service guys or gals would be happy to help you out!
I wonder if I influenced the bracket notation any? Haha
Bruh. How are all your hoses just Easily sliding on
Practice!
Shouldn't you clamp those hoses for security?
you mentioned at the end to get a tune. Is that necessary once this is installed? 06' LGT
So If I get a grimmspeed 3 port EBCS will it be safe to drive my car for 30 miles to my nearest tuner. I'm going to call them ahead of time and schedule my tuning. On the day of my tuning I was planing on installing this and getting it tuned. The only thing is the place is 20-30 miles away. Was wondering If I should just get them to install it.
did you ever figure it out I'm in the same situation
Yes just stay out of boost. Also your tuner should be able to send you a safe limp.msp
A question about the tune. I was wondering if I can install the boost solenoid and still drive around for a week or 2 before the tune or will this do damage? I am moving parts over between an old car of mine to my new one and was thinking of installing the grimmspeed boost solenoid at the same time but the tune isn't until a week and a half later. As i said, am i able to do this or will it go bad? Just asking about the boost solenoid not the rest of the parts. Thanks
Hey Toby, you will be required to re-tune your car once our three port boost controller is installed as it functions differently from the OEM solenoid and needs to be dialed in electronically before use. Driving the car un-tuned with our three port boost controller on will most likely lead to over boosting and can potentially harm the engine. I would recommend holding off on installing the three port until it is time to tune the car.
Will this help with boost creep if I go completely catless on my 08 wrx
Is this same applies to the STI 15
How do I fix the problem I'm looking to run gt28rs turbo
If I install an oem boost control solenoid will I still need a tune afterwards?
Leif Wagner a tune is always recommended if you are running over a stock setup. That way you are telling the ECM what you have. That way no check engine light or over boost.
BAKWOODS KID I won't be running over a stock set up though. I'm just installing the oem solenoid.
No you’re just replacing it with a stock part
do i need to disconnect the battery for this?
7:05 🤣🤣🤣 i'm still in high school
Does this modification change the sound of the car at all?
yeah bro sounds more spooly
i didn't get a sticker in my package :(
@burtonrider8907 just buy a Cobb access port and go to perrin.com to buy a map. However, you might want to put a lot of bolt ons to ur car for the map will cost u 180 wether u put one or 10 upgrades.
so would this work on older subies too?
Now he has to take it all off to replace the turbo inlet.
what size is the OEM vacuum line? Thanks!
Does cobb tuning accesport v3 (003) enough or do i have to re tune ?
Cobb currently doesn't offer OTS maps with a 3 port EBCS yet (and probably never will) Eric at torqued performance would make you a map very inexpensively for this though.
@burtonrider8907 by the way if u buy the access port from perrin your first map is free. I made the mistake to buy it from someone else for less money but I end up paying more because I had to buy the map
I didnt get a greeting card in my GS ebcs box :-(
does anyone know where to find replacement nipples?
You could contact Grimmspeed or purchase them from Mcmastercarr
that vacuum line is 5/32"
You said pinch! And using the word NIPPLES quite a bit!lol
WILL THIS STOP BOOST CREEP ON A 08 WRX COBB STAGE 2?
Hopefully.
@ricky041878 Hey you will either need a Pro Tune or obtain an OTS map made specifically for this!
Will
@ricky041878 It would be very wise when doing any electrical work to disconnect the battery!
Will
May I still use ecuflash to tune after installing grimspeed ebc?
email sent.
-Matt Homes
that coolant line does not look healthy LOL
Watch out for the nipples 😂
