  • Hey guys! Everything I know about how to get married in a Shariah court in Amman, Jordan. We got married nearly five years ago so it's all a bit hazy, and things might have changed a bit... but this is what I know/understand. Are you marrying a Jordanian or an Arab? Everyone's got a funny story about getting engaged or married and I'd love to hear it in the comments! xx

    I got married in Amman at Sharia Court - I am non arab muslim and my husband is muslim from Yemen. It' s a long way to marry there, too much burocracy, stamps and permissions, translations , so you need patience, but at the end it is a wonderful way to marry someone you love. Alhamdulillah

    Blood testing is essentially to lessen the possibility of transmitting thalassemia to offsprings as it is endemic in Jordan.

    The money you are talking about is called Dowry (Maher in Arabic) and it has 2 parts:
    1- Paid Dowry: advanced payment you take (can be money, gold, ..etc) the husband is obligated to provide it for you before the declaration of marriage (according to the mutual agreement between you guys). you can do whatever you want with it it's yours.
    2- Deferred Dowry: post-payment you take (can be money, gold..etc) the husband is obligated to provide it for you (as agreed) after the declaration of marriage (Not after divorce). this is your money you can do whatever you can with it.
    And the blood test is for thalassemia.

    Upon marriage, one of the most common things that women normally include in a marriage contract is what we call in Arabic "3esmeh" العصمة , which is basically delegating her divorce to her. Other things are "Al-Maher" ألمهر and "Al-Mitakher" المتاخر. which basically are amounts of money that the man will have to furnish to the women upon marriage and upon divorce. In Many occasions, the former amount is symbolic, but the latter is taken seriously

    Love your videos. I've lived in the Middle East for four years and I love it. One of the things I appreciate about it is the sense of family responsibility. I loved Jordan. He can take a second wife, but a woman can stipulate that if he does, she can divorce him. So she can't stop him taking another wife, but she will need to stipulate she'll leave; otherwise, she can't divorce because of that. Women in Western countries don't think about the contract because the laws in places like Europe, the US, Australia or Canada are egalitarian and womens' and mens' EQUAL rights are tacit. But, in Arabia, that isn't the case. So I just want to emphasise that the Shahria marriage contract is VERY important. Whatever it stipulates is binding; if a woman doesn't stipulate in the marriage contract exactly what she wants going into the marriage, during the marriage, and god forbid, should she divorce, what she'd be entitled to, she will end up with no legal claim. So to be on the safe side, and I know this isn't romantic, she could consider adding clauses in the marriage contract, such as:
    if he takes a second with, she can divorce him;
    she can work;
    she can drive;
    he will not put a travel ban on her in the system (or his and her children)
    she can leave the country and keep her foreign passport,
    she can visit her family or travel for ie 6 weeks in the summer and 3 weeks at Christmas
    she can go shopping and to a salon as she likes;
    she gets xxxxxx dinars if they divorce, etc
    We all hope we will not get divorced and we will have a guy who will not restrict us, but it happens. We are in love and we can't imagine it ending and if you don't have any money when you are young and getting married and you are in love, you may not be thinking about financial security and what it could be like 20 years later. But the time will pass. Inheritance rights favour males and the wife does not receive 50% and if you don't put what you want in the case of the divorce and you successfully divorce your husband, which is much harder for a woman to do, you likely will have nothing unless he is a generous soul during a divorce :) About the Jordanian passport, be advised that dual nationality is not OFFICIALLY recognised. So you can maybe hold one, but if you have another one, legally, only one is recognised. Hope I don't sound like a party pooper. I just want to be clear since many women from the West assume egalitarian laws are universal, but they are country by country.
    You should get a fluent English speaking lawyer and have the contract translated. The Arabic version is the one that will be binding, so make sure you have your own lawyer. Ask at your embassy. Articles of Laws are mentioned here: wbl.worldbank.org/en/data/exploreeconomies/jordan/2020#wbl_gp

    I could relate so much to everything you discussed in this video. When I got married to my Jordanian husband, the Sheihk was very cautious and made sure that I understood everything that was happening. One thing that caught me completely off guard was the marriage contract and when they asked me what, if anything, I wanted to add to it. The only thing I could think to add at the time was that I wanted my husband to remain faithful. When I declined to add anything else they looked at me as though I was crazy lol. Another thing that caught me off guard was when they asked me how much money my husband had given me/my family before we got married (a type of dowry I suppose?) and how much I would expect to get if we ever were to get divorced. You're right though - I feel like a lot of Jordanian men don't really explain the process well to their future wives which makes it very confusing for us.

      men dont hide it
      they just dont care and focus on the marriage itself
      thats why in islam there must be a sheikh and witnesses at the marriage contract to explain everything

    The blood test is to check the general health status of both spouses:
    1) Verify that factors that increase children's chances of developing future genetic disorders such as thalassemia (a blood disorder that affects haemoglobin) are not available.
    2) Ensure that neither spouse carries the recessive genes of genetic diseases that may affect children.
    3) Detecting infectious diseases, such as hepatitis C or AIDS.
    4)Detection of any disorders that may cause sterility or delayed childbearing in both sexes (rarely).

    You can get the money you put in the contract without being divorced; you have the right to ask for it at any time you wish.
    You could add to the contract the authorisation to divorce yourself without going to court (In Islam, the man has the right to divorce the woman, but women need courts order).

    Hello there,
    You do a blood test to make sure neither you nor your husband have thalassemia, which may be passed to your children if both of you had it,
    and the government prohibits the marriage between two people that have thalassemia major or if one of them has thalassemia major and the other has thalassemia minor ^^
    so they force you to do Complete blood count (CBC) test that shows the signs of thalassemia

    5:35 just a little explanation
    in islam god allows men to marry 4 wifes BUT before getting married if the women demands her husband in the marrige contract to only marry her and the man accepts it
    then in the future he cant marry a second or third or fourth wife (this demand can be applied by women if they want too in the contract before getting married while they are at the sheikh )
    and this demand is a right for the women if they want and it does not interfere with islam it is a recognized right for the women if they want too

    • @user-bl4bx6jg3c
      @user-bl4bx6jg3c 4 года назад

      javaskin in shareah law the mom have the right to keep the children in her custody and the dad should provide for them and give the mom money to take care of them, also the dad have the right to see and have time with his children. This custody will last until puberty, when the children have the right to choose if they want to keep living with their mom or move to their dad’s. Also it’s important to say that the mom should be qualified to raise the children in the first place.

      Hi. In Jordan there are public schools, which are free, and there are private schools, which are not free. Of course, schools provide students with meals. Education in Jordan is very advanced, and our universities are among the best. Transportation is widely available in Jordan. If you choose government schools, you will study in Arabic, but if you study in private schools, you can study in English.😊💛

My mother and father in law sent us beautiful 22 kt gold rings, hijabs for me, food and a beautiful wedding dress (and ALOT of money - very, very generous people). We have to get the family book and we are working on that now. In islam you can ask your to be husband not to marry a second time and if he agrees to that request it's got written in the marriage contract as solemn oath that he can't break . But women rarely do that either because they are ignorant or because they dont want to demean themselves by asking that early on . My grandma asked my grandpa not to marry a second time when they were engaged and my grandpa kept his promise . Even though it wasnt officially written in the contract . Women can request anything and have it written in the marriage contract as long as her to be husband agrees .

    And there is no conditions to do or not to do,
