I swear they shopped around for the person that sounded closest to Anthony Green lmao. I'm not super invested in Saosin (much more on the Circa side of things personally) but Cove is pretty obviously doing his best Anthony impersonation, at least earlier on. He's still a good singer don't get me wrong, but most of his style is borrowed.
Green always fit the sound better with his vocals but Cove was a HUGE reason for their success. I love both of them. I wish we could get a project with both. Wishful thinking.
I’ve always noticed a difference between Anthony and Cove, what I had never noticed was the musical difference. It’s much more mellow/simple with cove singing. I suspect the label had much to do with this. My favorite example of the differences is “I wanna hear another fast song” and “sleepers”.
They share the band now. Sometimes Saosin tours with Anthony Green and sometimes with Cove. Just recently Saosin played in Manila with Cove. Earlier this year they played a show here in their home county where they both took turns playing a set.
Cove's verses are more clearer. Anthony's chorus is so much more visceral and emotional though. I honestly can't decide between the two. Its a win win both ways. Like everything in life, there are pros and cons. In Saosin's case, the cons are very subjective.
Yes, just so much more natural talent and grit as a post hardcore singer, his natural range was insane, Cove always needed post production help to hit those highs
Props to Cove, very good version! However, it's clear Anthony's soul is in his song.. There's an emotional attachment singers have in the music they write, to me it felt super personal. Amazing job to both though, banger song in general!!
Disagree. Cove has much more punch in his delivery, Anthony has more dynamic range but that doesnt mean he has more emotional attachment. Cove is far superior. Even moreso to my point, cove sings WITH the band, anthony doesnt.
Years and years hearing both versions not knowing first one's Cove's. Always thought that AG singed the first one cleaner, and then the other one for good. I really like 'em both, Cove's voice is really great too! It's actually really great to have 'em both here to sing, cry and smile.
Cada uno es genial, pero esta fué de las primeras canciones que escuché de Saosin con Anthony y quedé fascinado con esa voz tan única y la emoción que transmite
Well said. I like the self titled cd with Cove just as much as i liked the ep with Anthony. Plus, we got circa survive out of the whole situation, which is amazing. Anywho, The ep and the self titled cd will always be a nostalgic staple for me, such good shit.
Lyrics: Betray The Avalon is always beside me And I'm following it home Where is my home Orion glows And his eyes open up I once believed that I would set you in line If only I had the strength you'd be completely accepting something else If you keep asking me I'll melt away in the summer air It won't hurt half as much and I'll beg for you to stop it now If you keep asking me I'll melt away in the summer air It won't hurt half as much and I'll beg for you just tell me something The fluid through the alpha waves and power cables everywhere Exercising self-control The child calls And she lies open I would believe if only I'd been thinking at all If only I had the strength you'd be completely accepting something else If you keep asking me I'll melt away in the summer air It won't hurt half as much and I'll beg for you to stop it now If you keep asking me I'll melt away in the summer air It won't hurt half as much and I'll beg for you just tell me something
I like the pace and instruments a little better on Cove's version, but I like the way you can somehow physically feel Anthony's emotion through his voice more. It's like Cove is just focusing only on sounding good. While it seems like Anthony is pouring his soul out trying to just fucking shove his raw emotions into our ears and then force them to our heart. You can tell how hard he's screaming in the chorus. Speaking of which, they both beautifully nailed the chorus though, holy shit.
Chill dudes, just love the band and the song. Obviously, the two vocalists are great. They deserve to be both appreciated and let's just respect their styles. There's nothing to debate about, if you love either cove or anthony, good for you guys cause at least we came to know and take this song to heart, since then and for a lifetime :)
My favorite vocalist is Green, but in this song im gonna go for Reber version. I love both version but reber version is not on spotify, so mostly i listen to green version
Both are nice in different ways. I do like Anthony's versio more but Cove's voice sounds very clear to me. Cove sounds like he's on the verge of tears, while Anthony sounds like he's venting anything he was bottling up inside.
I agree with most comments on here concerning Anthony's emotion, however, Cove is a better singer, and I think he does a great job covering this song, and I prefer his voice over Anthony's.
Thanks for this. Just saw them with Anthony last summer. Wasn't a fan till after the show. Wanted to see the comparison. Cove did good in my opinion. His voice is smoother. I feel like it hits my chest harder with Anthony though. Never seen Cove perform. Anthony was awesome live.
I still remember when Anthony and Saosin split. Saosin held auditions trying to find a replacement for Anthony. I think Coves audition tape is still kicking around on RUclips somewhere. He was a huge fan of Anthony and tried to do his best to stay true to the sound of Saosin. Only through later albums did they branch off around coves vocals more
i wish they both could sing together. i like both their voices but nothing beat anthony greens versions of saosin. he helped build that band with his unique voice
The first song from saosin that I ever heard from was Cove. I memorized all the lyrics to his songs befor moving on to translating the name. But over all, I think Anthony is a better singer. Love that guys voice. No homo.
Exact same here. Love them both. I think Anthony has way way way more emotion. But Cove Reber is a great singer too. They are phenomenal at what they do. I feel so bad for Cove tho. Everything that went down. It seems like he got a raw deal
Cove!! No disrespect to Anthony at all, honestly. I just really love Cove’s voice. It’s such a shame that he left the band the way he did because he has so much potential. I really think that if he could get ahold of his demons and build his confidence back up and work with a vocal coach he would be absolutely unstoppable!
I've often debated the Cove verses Anthony thing. I love Anthony Green as a vocalist, he has such raw and powerful emotion in his voice, where Cove has more of a refined and less powerful/moving sound. Anyone with a discerning ear should be able to agree on that much. I think for the sound they had with Anthony, Anthony fit very well and those recordings are amazing. For the sound they had with Cove their self titled ep and full length, as well as the gray ep, were all great... Well, some of the songs throughout that era didn't have as much appeal as others did. I think that the guy who's currently singing for Dance Gavin Dance would have made this band exactly what it should be, and they were foolish to not snatch him up when they had the chance. Tillian (pardon me for not being able to spell it correctly) was the perfect blend between Cove's polished and professional sound, and Anthony's raw and emotional sound, Tillian could have taken Saosin to a new level musically. Anyhow, that has little to do with the debate... For this song, Anthony wins hands down... The sheer power of the vocals, the emotion that bleeds through, and the yelled chorus, where he's singing so hard his voice breaks into short screams... It all comes together perfectly in Anthony's version. I like both vocalists equally for their time with the band, but overall I find Anthony has the more emotional and powerful sound, and I love all of his work for that (especially Audience of One, Jeer At Rome, and his Solo recordings)
Tilian is a cleaner vocalist than either... Green had a perfect blend of rasp while still being able to reach the high clean notes imo. I am not a fan of DGD though, full disclosure.
I loved many songs with Cove, and I think he did justice for a period of time but Anthony sings those songs like he lived/wrote them and you can feel that. Even the production/mixing of those early songs you can tell they were meant for Green but got reworked for Cove.
You can't compare Cove's much more produced track and auto-tuned voice to Anthony's much cruder DEMO. If Anthony recorded this properly in a studio and produced it, I guarantee most of you who chose Cove would change your tune.
This is hard. Olay, the Tempo difference really causes a problem when it comes to comparing the two songs. There are other things that complicate comparison also. I really like Cove’s song. The Tempo seems much more natural for the song. It’s so hard to look beyond the glaring tempo difference.
I’ll agree with several folks here, I think with the proper recording tools, Anthony greens version is much harder hitting. The slower sounds better for this song, and there is much more feeling to Anthony’s version. Cole has a great voice but it sounds like he is just rushing though the song.
In my perspective I think cove kills it. BUT! The emotion put into this song or ANY SAOSIN SONG THAT WAS ORIGINALLY ANTHONY GREENS, will not be touched by a remake!! he doesn't have the original intent of the song imbedded in his memory from real shit that happened to him. this song is anthonys memory. I give a fuck about how clear his voice is, I want the emotion!... fuckin robots
Can we agree how lucky we are to have both? I’m still rocking out to this
Meeeee too!!!
Thank you for this. I agree 100%. I sometimes think which one I prefer. But I'd rather listen to both back to back.
I liked your comment already so I had to comment lol
who really wrote this and who wrote how it is sung.. thats the one i like
When I was younger I used to listen to both of these versions all the time and I didn't notice they were different singers for the longest time.
They have similar character to present how Saosin music is haha
Haha SAME 😢
Yeah i just compare the drum parts to know which is which version
I swear they shopped around for the person that sounded closest to Anthony Green lmao. I'm not super invested in Saosin (much more on the Circa side of things personally) but Cove is pretty obviously doing his best Anthony impersonation, at least earlier on. He's still a good singer don't get me wrong, but most of his style is borrowed.
It's not about who sings it.
It's about how they sing it.
Green always fit the sound better with his vocals but Cove was a HUGE reason for their success. I love both of them. I wish we could get a project with both. Wishful thinking.
I mean jeez they've got two guitarists can we get two vocalists please lol

According to Wikipedia, Cove is an official member of the band again, and Anthony Greene is on hiatus.

Agreed!! Anthony’s chorus just hits different

Anthony green. It's his damn song afterall.

@@16xthedetail76 You really need to hear Anthony in any of his other bands. Especially Circa Survive. He really improved after leaving Saosin.

You can feel every bit of emotion in Anthony's voice. He is a god among men.

JROCK50054 for me coves versions seems way too fast and rushed, no emotions and if there were, no time for them to sink in
Agree. Anthony doesn't really have a choice in the matter. Here's proof :) ruclips.net/video/31XmBrNsmRM/видео.html

Funny how this is the only Saosin record of Cove where he is somehow able to mimic Anthony's tone and range...
Anthony Green all the way

The production level is the difference in these two. Seen both live. Only one actually sounds like this. Cove always stuggled with this tone.
yup Anthony as well
In both cases the deep voice in my mind says: "THIS IS A WORK OF... ART!"

Not really that crazy man. Cove's voice sounds very good when recorded and audio-processed. Anthony's voice is more raw and live sounding.
cove and anthony and SAOSIN
You just can't compete with Anthony...
The final bridge where it slows down and the vocals kinda drone, Anthony version is the best. Cove is Saosin’s vocalist though, through and through.
