This is stunning. More than a decade ago, I got my first time in a machine shop. My machining teacher said, "The most important machine is the lathe. If I needed to, I could do on the lathe what I'd normally do on a mill." I think this is the first time I actually got to see what he meant!
A mill can be used as a lathe too. Both situations are about equally non-ideal. You can do maybe even thread cutting and everything if it's cnc. (Provided there's a spindle position feedback) The work envelopes are designed differently and that's what's limiting the most for both cases. Also lathe is only a 2-axis machine whereas mill is 3 so you would need additional attachments for the lathe to be used as a mill but not the other way around.
Go look up a channel called "machine learning" its sort of a history channel and he has a video called "the machine that made everything" Basically the creation of the V-bed lathe was the real start of the industrial revolution because without it the IR never happens and we are still peasants.
@@MF175mp Once the CNC ability of any milling machine has been taken away, its capabilities become limited. CNC milling of round parts do not produce high concentricity round parts with micro-finish. Fact and realities are, Lathe remains the most versatile machine tool. Keep in mind several axis can be added to the carriage of a lathe relative to the rotating spindle. Limitations as always comes down to the size of the machine tool -vs- size of the part to be made-worked on.

I love machining videos just as much as anyone else but having it on 2x playback still left the video too long. Only suggestion is speeding them up! Otherwise great video
Just outstanding. Such clever ideas and solutions. I have never tried holding a morse taper in a lathe Chuck. Even with beer can shims that seems scary. Fantastic work. Such exquisite craftsmanship.
Great talent, delivered in a nicely filmed package! I imagine that you have gathered many ways to get the result you want, the metal wisdom is obvious xD
Nice workmanship and camera usage. Question! How do you keep your hands so clean? LOL Maybe a U -shaped clamp for use on the V-block instead of the C- clamp would be easier.
Thank you for watching. Until about eight years ago, I was a machinist, but recently my main job has been to sell used auto parts (mainly used headlights), so I've been using machines less frequently. Swap Lamp is the name of the store. I think that the v-block clamp is very easy to handle, but there are cases where the protruding part interferes with the chuck, etc., so I use a clamp that is difficult to handle but does not interfere easily.
My favourite machining process... single-point screwcutting... and taking the last few spring cuts to get the fit just right with the nut... a multi-start thread & matching nut would have been awesome & rather confusing to the less techy amongst us .. 🙄😉 😎👍☘🍺
Alucinante!!
1045 leaves terrible finishes unless you take real heavy finish passes of around 0.04" or more a side, or if you spend a ton of time polishing. 4140, or 4340 would give you a much better finish with next to zero effort

How good to receive the sunrise with an excellent video☝️ and with such relaxing music👍
Thank you from Argentina.
Really liked watching something like I have done for 40 years.
it's a pice of art :-) I would put it on my table to look at it every day :-)

Amazing. I didn't expect anything less from a Japanese machinist.
That's quite an expensive and elaborate way to make a bolt, but very interesting nevertheless.
The worker is really a human ? Because his accuracy is alien.
Respect, from Romania, Bucharest !
The machine does a lot of the work
A big salute for that skilled machine work, from Romania also, Iasi.
precision precision that's what I like to see, people who know their stuff .
So glad you finally put up another video. These are the most relaxing videos on RUclips 😁😁 thank you for making them

That's what JAPAN means. Smart, Precise, Super high quality. Very nice job.
When feed & speed are matched, you get precision machining.
Not quite. Tooling, Material, setup, machine all come in to play also!
14:22. carbide shell end mill on a turning lathe. That’s genius.
Don't put the lathe in a box creatively.
Very nice. You definitely put in a lot of time, work and pride in your craft and it shows.
