Shaun didn't fail. The pharmacy and leadership failed to maintain the proper inventory. I felt so bad for him cause you can tell he genuinely loves his job.
How is he supposedly autistic when the pharmacist goes all stiff minded fixated on stiff facts ('it is a different drug' line). When in reality it contained the same substance, just at a different dosage, which could be lowered to the right level.
It was unorthodox yes, but in times of seeing such stiff minded pseudo factual people who lack common sense - I see them as more autistic than what this actor was supposed to be.

A tv show has actors playing different characters, almost every movie and tv show has a fake storyline and fake characters. You seem to think I feel bad for the actor but I feel bad for the CHARACTER. this particular character struggles with a disability that makes his life more difficult and overwhelming. Dr Shaun Murphy is a amazing doctor I can see how intelligent he is as a character in the show
As someone who's had panic attacks, this is exactly how hyperventilation looks like. I immediately cried when I watched him hyperventilating because it reminded me of those times. Freddie Highmore is such a talented actor it's terrifying.
He's been acting since he was a child and never went the route of most child actors where they fall into substance abuse and give up their careers so what you have here is a very seasoned actor at such a young age

Charlie and the chocolate factory, spider wick chronicles, Arthur and the invisibles, I remember I used to be annoyed when I was 10 always seeing this kid everywhere, but as an adult I realize how good he was in those roles and even now he's so underrated with his talent

It's not fair that the ENTIRE pharmacy stock was expired! If they just threw out the expired meds and restocked with meds that weren't, the baby wouldn't have died!
Slightly expired meds can still be effective and save lives. In similar emergency situation they should be used, it's a sure death vs risk of death either way.

They might not have saved the baby, but the odds would have improved dramatically. However, there are too few guarantees in life, and their ability to save the baby was one of them.

As someone who does have autism this could not be done more well. I never felt so heard and see.

The doctor is like a father to him no matter what he says to him. Shawn knows he will never abandon him because we have all said horrible words to our parents and yes they may be upset they won’t turn there back on you.

Depends on if you mean characters that are intentionally written as or stated to be autistic. Autism doesn't have one or even five specific ways of presenting.
It usually takes me to watch a show in it's entirety to feel emotion about it. But this clip alone made me shed a few tears, which has never happened before with shows I've never truly seen. Freddie Highmore deserves an oscar for this performance, how did he not win any?

Note :- Expired medicine doesn't mean that it was toxic or doesn't work.
If medicine is expired means it's efficacy might be low .
For example if medicine is supposed to be 100mg After expired it's efficiency could be 75-85% i.e. 75-85mg.
But no doubt to say , this was hopital manegment Negligebility , and they are punishable.
More than enough to make it unusable in this case. A body that small, dosage needs to be absolutely perfect. There is no way to factor for efficacy drop in a safe manner in this situation.

Expired means expired. YOU DO NOT USE IT. ESPECIALLY not in a surgical situation. PERIOD. It's slippery slopes like this that create the situation seen in the show.

As a non neuro-divergent individual, most doctors have an extremely hard time when it comes to losing an infant or adolescent patient. Adding Shauns Autism on top of it just makes dealing with that so much harder.

As someone WITH autism, I can't even begin to tell you how real Shaun's reaction was, it hit home for me. Those of us with autism do operate on a different wavelength, and it can be SO hard to deal with. Sometimes, situations like Shaun's breakdown in the pharmacy happen, we process stuff slightly differently than neuro-typical people, although the emotions are just the same. We handle things different. We process stuff different, and I have experienced Shaun's explosion similarly, but in different situations. Expressing emotions are difficult for me, and it all builds up to the point where one incident will trigger an emotional breakdown, and months - if not years - of that buildup just all comes out at once. It's hard for me to handle that, but at age 44, I have accepted that this is who I am, this is how I PERSONALLY processnstuff, that's just how it is. I am SO glad that this show was produced. I feel like I, along with other autistic people, were well represented, it shows neurotypical people what it's really like for us.

He is such an amazing actor, he was able to portray how hyperventilating and a meltdown perfectly. I am autistic with many other conditions and I have watched many shows with autistic characters but I have found that most of the time they find it hard to actually portray a meltdown and other things in a way that looks real, but Freddie is very good with his acting and I just love watching the good doctor ❤

I have autism I don’t know where on the spectrum I am but I haven’t even watched this show and this made me cry just because his acting is so good I could see myself in him when he was breaking down even the body language the mannerisms even the way he looks with his eyes in a different way I like to call it autism eyes lol I feel like me and other people with autism we move our eyes as we move our head around if u get hay I’m saying but his acting was on point ❤

I know someone who works in a hospital. They do all the inventory and deliver everything. Their boss purposefully doesn't do their job and they find issues with inventory, including expired items, ALLLLL the time.
Most people don't even get healthcare at all lol. It's all a mess lol.

As a support worker for my best friend with autism I know what it feels like to have to calm a friend down and Shawn did not fail he did everything he could to save that child he cares for his patients and loves his job as a first responder I know what it feels like when we can’t bring someone home as much as we want to save everyone whether we are doctors like Shawn, a firefighter,paramedic,police officer, or member of a search and rescue team like I am we can only do what we can and with what Shawn is saying he does not mean what he is saying he is overwhelmed and stressed he is an awesome doctor and deserves proper facilities

Meds can be expired and it doesnt mean it toxic, it just means there’s less mg of the needed substances and chemicals for the medication.

Just a baby crying because he's hungry makes me cry, they are so small, pure, delicate, innocent creatures brought into a messed up world. Might not go anywhere due to this being a medical shortage. The expired medication shouldn't have been administered, but making it live on site wouldn't have worked either.
This would constitute as a medical shortage.
It'd be the same problem as you needing anti-venom for a snake not local to the area. That's a more dramatic example but budget cuts for medications sounds heinous, but hospitals are both a government institution and a for-profit business depending on how it runs.
Makes suits for shortages difficult, since Murphy's literal "solution" wouldn't be a prescribed medication subject to rigorous standards, which creates a small legal clout.
The hospital would likely settle though, due to the fact they shouldn't have administered an expired medication and instead tried something else.
So you'd likely get a decent settlement, but of course nothing that'd rival the loss of a child. What that would be I don't know, but the hospital wouldn't be flipped over by it. That's a business expense. Of the 1000 medications they ought to have, it's cheaper to absorb 10 lawsuits than supply them constantly.
But the settlement likely wouldn't be more than 200k, if that. Malpractice by medication usually has to result in damages from the medication itself, not a medication that failed to protect from another condition. I.e. if you took an anti-venom and it caused your blood vessels to be damaged, that's a better suit. A life saving medication, even expired, didn't harm the person it just didn't correct their issue.
But there's still room for malpractice, just not as much as anyone would deserve. Probably 100k, settled out of court quietly, which would be subsidized by the government as a cost of business. If it's within their margins that year, the hospital won't even notice it.
... and there's a chance it'd be even less, depending on the state and the local government. They might argue you out the door if they're ruthless.
Life kinda sucks.
But I'd certainly be filing too. It's just the win won't change much.

As someone with autism and anxiety, I will say it's different for my brother than me, but this is how it feels. You fall in this state of the world hurt you. Even if you know they didn't. It's hard to explain, but yes, you basically throw a tantrum until your body says shut it all out.
I don't have autism but I've had a few mental breakdowns like this over the years. It almost made me cry watching shaun like that. It reminded me of when i had to go through that, how it felt to think that everyone is against you and is lying to you.
I only watched this actual season before starting it for real. This hurt so much
