I just love how ZUN made some of the parts synced with the music. God it makes me so hyped whenever i play any of the touhou bullet hell games

This game was a fucking nightmare on normal, I can't even imagine the torture on lunatic.

+FieryShaverdian Agreed. I thought Ichirin was hell, and then I eventually beat her no problem. Then came Murasa which was actually tougher than I thought. Her stage troubles me the most. Then Shou.... Wasn't pleasant AT ALL. And last, I cannot beat Byakuren. With only three lives??? I got up to the last spell ONCE but that was pure luck.
Attempted my very 1st UFO Normal 1cc using Illusion Laser Marisa. I had a lucky shot on Kogasa's last spell, Master-sparked Ichirin's last spell. Had my very first hit on Murasa, and lost 2 lives on her survival spell. I gathered as much as 8 lives, but thanks to fucking Stages 5, 6 and Shou, I fought Byakuren with just 2 bombs and one life. Lost a continue on Devil's Recitation AKA Shinki Spell.
I finally beat this game on easy XD
can't beat this on easy with reimu. but it feels easier than PCB easy with sanae. sanae is pretty much unquestionably overpowered.
Real life hitboxes aren't as forgiving as Touhou's.
This is definitely the hardest Lunatic Mode in the entire series. At least LoLK and DDC give you dozens of lives to burn through. It wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for lives and bombs being hidden behind freaking UFO gathering BS.

And those lives are hidden behind UFO gathering, and it's far from the easiest thing in the world to get all those UFO's to allign just right and gather them to get more lives AND dodge the waves of die being thrown at you at the same time.

Gain your confidence by playing against Flandre in EoSD.
In case you haven't noticed, Byakuren's last spellcard makes her immune to all damage whenever you bomb. So it's a massive pain in the ass for multiple reasons. XD
Nice commentary btw. Now whenever I listen to the stage 5 theme, I think of "Running in circles is the new streaming?"

GoldenShadow404 LoLK is the easiest because you have unlimited savestates.
The only possible way to fail Point Device Mode, which is the *main* mode of the game, is to waste all your bombs on stage 5 and early stage 6 and not have them for a pattern that is too hard for your skill level.
Even then, having to start all over and get to the end of the game while being more sparring with bombing will still take you much less time than practicing each stage individually as one would normally do for other Touhou games.

The fact that you were able to almost get through Byakuren by bombing everything on lunatic using only bombs makes me feel absolutely terrible for being unable to beat her on normal.

@SinEmerald More specifically, deathbombing is the act of bombing AFTER you get hit. Touhou is rather lenient in this regard; you can afford to take additional risks with dodging before deciding that you're screwed. This is unlike other games, where you have to be absolutely sure about your dodging.

Why do people think shou is hard? Personally, the curvy lasers are very easy, but give me a slight challenge of predicting when they are going to curve or go straight

Byakuren is brutal, but she is easier than Utsuho i believe.
Realy depends on the person, they're both really hard. I took 21 tried for utsuho, and 27 for byakuren. Their stage is ridiculously easy though. Kanako still has the hardest last spell in my opinion

Also, at 2:22, I find it works on Normal to move to the top center and slowly move downwards, then dodge to the side if you get some vertical bullets headed straight for you (which I think should only happen if the orbs get directly above you). Though I haven't tried it on Lunatic yet.
@zandermanandcassymom I think he was referring to the sixth spellcard from Ran (extra) and Yukari (Phantasm).
And I agree. It's one of the two cards that I can't even capture on Easy (along with Magic Milky Way).
After seeing this, I think I was right to be afraid of Lunatic on this one. Great video, though!
The red life UFOs drop two hollow purple stars (one at 34 items absorbed and one upon explosion), each worth a fraction of a life. The green bomb UFOs drop a solid green star at 34 items absorbed, worth one whole bomb, and a hollow green star upon explosion, worth a fraction of a bomb.
If you pick up the UFOs while you have one you, you essentially get rid of them, so you could have used that in stage 6 to clean up the blue UFOs

@MrPloobo Death-bombing is simply being able to guess when you are screwed. You don't generally bomb at death (though it's not too hard to get it with just reflexes), but just when you know you're sure to get hit.
UFO in general is brutal. Especially this stage.

Yeah, there's two lasers circling fully then one laser getting shot forward. It might be possible to circle, but the laser getting shot forward would probably ruin it.
Also, that one looks to be consistently doable with practice, so I don't have to find a way to cheese it.
It's lunatic mode. Of course it's going to look hard. Normal mode is doable (however, it's annoying to grab the correct UFOs that fly everywhere without getting hit)

Yeah... Either UFO or SA is the hardest Touhou game. UFO went a bit overboard with the curving lasers everywhere.
@olAlolilo Picture bullets being so close that you need to be almost perfect in your aim/timing to pass through safely, like in Byakuren's first spell.
Clipdeath is where you can swear you went through properly, but you still *pichuun*. Or at least this is the definition i've always thought of when I think of the term.

Basically when you try to dodge something but you're just a pixel or so off, and so the bullet "clips" you and you die.

Yep. This was all the very first day UFO came out, I just was running the stage over and over and over to try and unlock it for spell practice, so I just spamming bombs.

The curvy lasers remind me of Shinki's homing bullets, at least visually. They're far less insidious than the homing bullets though, in my opinion. They're still pretty evil in large quantities and mixed with other patterns, however...

I don't mind the spam. It's those dammed UFOS that are the most annoying thing that I've ever had to deal with than anything else in the entire series. TH11 I had to spend countless hours straight trying to actually 1cc the damn game and learning how to dodge things and all on normal, and that's fine, I had my fun in the end. In this game I spent countless hours trying to 1cc the game with the majority of the time WORRYING ABOUT COLLECTING UFOS that everything else seemed so easy till the end.
@UltraDragonDragon lol, I played it straight for almost an entire day just trying to unlock the stage right after the game came out. I actually haven't played it in nearly a year, I probably could do it now...
UFOs drop 2/5s of a life or 4/3rds of a bomb, making bombs a much better option here.

Oddly (and remember I'm talking about normal here) I find Shou's first and second non-card to be fairly manageable, but her third one utterly undoable. The curvy lasers don't bother me, but straight pink lasers? Watch out!
Stage 6 on Luna is still epic. I'll watch the rest once I beat Byakuren... still don't wanna spoil it! :P
