Now you have heard the beautiful and soothing original you must hear the Disturbed version which turns it into something dark and powerful and which impressed Paul Simon enough to give personal praise. The Disturbed video has over a billlion views on YT !!!
I remember a line spoken to me many years ago by a loving, honest, witty guy when we suddenly, luckily, happily found ourselves in the presence of such a beautiful Black woman. Referencing old African marriage customs, he said softly to me, "Trade all my livestock to the Chief! And throw in my little sister!" It was said in high compliment; he was preaching to the choir.
Originally, they were Known as Tom and Jerry, but that name didn't catch on in 1964. This FOLK duo evolved to pop by the 70s. This is one of their Folk Songs like HOMEWARD BOUND and SCARBOROUGH FAIR.
Also, it was called "head music". By the time Woodstock happened, people were getting more into music you lie on the bed and listen to with a black light on, instead of "dance music". Until the mid 70s, only Rnb and Funk was dance music, rock had turned into head music.
The studio album of this is from 1965. You should check that one out, too. It's more like folk music and not so much country, but if you're interpreting it that way, it's so cool.

Hi Princess. This is a clasdic example of American FOLK music, very far removed from Country music. Folk music was about telling a specific story or a commentary about society, politics, human rights, etc., and setting it to music. The music and delivery were secondary, the LYRICS were primary. Welcome to the world of the Troubador, the musical commentators. I hope you continue to explore American folk music with new eyes. Forget "vibes," enjoy the poetry or prose. Paul Simon was one of the best lyricists of the era. As a fellow New Yorker, he was also one of my guitar coaches. Stay well 😇🌹☺️
A small suggestion: with a few exceptions, you should try to seek out the studio recording of most songs for first time listening. As nice as this performance is, it doesn’t compare to the production value released on the album. This goes for (almost) any song.
A never ending debate, and as someone old enough to remember this stuff when it was released I had no option but to hear the studio version time after time on a radio. I watch a lot of reactions and I feel live performances can often show exactly who is singing when there is more than one person, especially groups like The Dramatics, Harold Melvin etc, when those reacting often display more emotions as different members of a group stand out visually, rather than it being a bit of a guessing game if there is no video. I also think a younger and older version can be interesting to compare (Boz Scaggs, Smokie Robinson for example), but reactors don't have time to go into such details.

really like you but STOP abruptly cutting the endings off. This time they hadn't even finished playing and the 500,000 crowd in Central Park, New York erupted. You missed The Beatles' "Now and Then " ending when they took their final bow after 60 years and were faded out and The Beatles sign disappeared. You missed the ending of "Help" when they were initiating a large bird and this time Paul was still playing the guitar. lol

60s folk rock music. It has been played in many movies and a lot of singers copied it.

I usually prefer the studio tracks for this duo. Art Garfunkles high notes aren't as loud live.
