The improve of asking questions is knowing how to to give hints that are < 25% of the answer. The reporters also need to pay close attention to what the other ones say to play off of them, else there's not enough material to deduce anything. "Ranger" "picnic basket" "rug" (any other hints I missed) is a fair shake.
"do you in the woods" was a big one once you hear that, you know it's about bears (plus the previously mentioned Ranger reference and picnic basket narrow it down to Yogi Bear) and what are you going to do about the rug + tired of sharing the basket gives away that yogi did something to another bear aka Boo Boo

The best part of this game.......when Wayne, Brad, and Ryan see what is on the paper and start laughing before even starting....then they casually look over at Colin and he smiles too. You know these guys love what they do!
You never ever say the action or proper name in the hints out loud. And besides, you have to act like Colin knows exactly who he is, so it's honestly just a really stupid question too.
Damn, this is hard to do. I purposely didn't see the cue and was trying to guess but still could only guess who he was, not what he had done. And I've seen this one before!
@Steve Smith All of the references that you mention relate only to who he was, which @duy says he got. The clues to what he did (which @duy didn't get) were the ones about remorse, and what would he do with the rug.

This must be so difficult. Not only trying to deconstruct three other people’s jokes for clues but also responding with your own jokes without the proper context.
I remember another installment of "Press Conference" in which Colin was Santa Claus preparing to retire. And Brad identified himself as a reporter from "Yield and Scream". That was a different taping because their outfits were different.
