The strange thing is that they were only 7 games behind the 1st seeded Lakers that year. Not only was it brutal, but all 8 playoff teams were very close in win total as well.
One key event contributing to their downfall missing from the timeline: Shortly after trading for Perkins, OKC extended him for 4 years and $36 million. Then when it came time to negotiate Harden's extension, OKC chose to remain under the luxury tax and lowballed Harden. That Perkins extension limited their financial flexibility, and few people think Perkins came close to living up to that contract. Boston was only willing to go to 4 years and $22 million, and once that hit an impasse, they traded Perk. The Perkins contract isn't really among the worst contracts of all time, but the domino effect of that whiff is one of the most significant in recent NBA history. But overvaluing Perkins could've been overcome if the team didn't insist upon trying to win an NBA title with All-NBA superstars while managing a second-tier payroll. Winning doesn't come cheap.
Oh man what a strong team OKC was back in the day. KD,Harden,Russ. They played so well and almost won a title. They managed to draft 3 MVPs but failed to win a title. For me OKC was a great team but didn't ein a title.
If they didn’t send Harden away to Houston when he was just entering his prime…. They could’ve easily had another go at it in 2013…. I’m sorry for you OKC fans though. You all were so close and who knows if you’ll ever get another chance with the management that you have.
It's not like they wanted to send Harden away. OKC was a small market team and they already spent their budget on KD, Russ and Ibaka. And Harden wanted a bigger contract while being the first option, so his leaving was inevitable.
Real Thunder fans know the Kendrick Perkins trade hurt this franchise more than anything. He was such a liability, especially on a team that already had shooting problems. That's why a huge percentage falls on Scott Brooks, he was a terrible offensive coach.
Are you high? Perkins sucks yes. But at least he was a presence. Do you remember Nenad. Dude was constantly bullied. Without that move they never go to the finals. The worst move they made was coming to okc. Ugliest city in the nba. You'll never get a good free agent that isn't in a position to have to prove they can still play on okc. Nobody wants to play there. I mean nobody. Players have retired because okc was the only team that would pick them up
I’d like to request a timeline of the Indiana Pacers from losing to the Lakers in the 2000 Finals to the moment Paul George arrived in Indiana. So 2000-2010.
It would probably be worse! You can't go to a 73-9 team as a Once in a Generation talent, after they beat your team when y'all were up 3-1. Probably the weakest move in basketball i ever witnessed. But KD is still a god with the basketball but that move with ridiculous.

Idea for timeline. Every team's timeline from their surefire roster to present. Like a collapse video and vice versa, rise of a team from lottery to playoff or championship
In 2009-10 The only players on OKC that had playoff experience were Nenad Krstic with the nets in 2005, Nick Collison when they were in Seattle, Etan Thomas with the Wizards in 2008, Thabo Sefolosha with the Bulls in 2007, and Veteran Point Guard Kevin Ollie with The Sixers in 2000, 2001, 2002 during his time in Indiana and 2008 with the Sixers again
As a sonics man, this is painful to watch but on the other hand Oklahoma did nothing wrong getting the sonics, Seattle had the arena problems since day one and they never did a thing to fix it
What killed the Sonics chances of staying in Seattle was that the city and state had already put over $1 billion of taxpayer money into new stadiums for the Seahawks and Mariners less than 10 years prior and too many state politicians and citizens didn't want any more spent on the Sonics. Like the Washington State governor said at the time, "I understand how passionate Sonics fans are...I also understand how passionate taxpayers are; I've heard from them loud and clear."

I have always thought that OKC's best chance to win the championship was in 2014(The very strong Spurs still took them 6 games to close out without Ibaka playing 2 games. It would've been different if he was playing) and 2015. 2016 was close too but they blew it :( 2015 was the BEST chance. If only the injuries didn't fk them in 2014 and 15. It still haunts me till today.
Imagine having to deal with a stacked West in 2010 as a super young team, then when finally reaching the finals having to deal with a Lebron super team and then having to deal with dynasty teams like the Spurs and Goldenstate. Unrelated to the Thunder but ESPN's Toni Collins is really cute. She's aged like wine.

The Fallen Franchise of the Oklahoma City Thunder......
Formally known as the Seattle SuperSonics from 2007 to 09.....
Western Conference Title - 2012
Endless Rebuilding after reaching the 2012 NBA Finals......
Exterminated by the Miami Heat's big 3 squad at game 5.......
After many tries, the team made it to the West Finals in 2014 fell to the S.A. Spurs of game 6,
Blew a 3-1 deficit against the G.S. Warriors in a decisive western conference finals game 7 of 2016,
Kevin Durant left,
Russell Westbrook leaves,
James Harden took off,
Serge Ibaka left the building,
Well everyone knows what happened after that timeline.......
Unbelievably Sad & Heartbreaking.
Bring back the Sonics!!!
For me, the OKC Thunder don't exist as a basketball team anymore but still staying strong.
🥺🥺🥺
