My husband likes Tom Ford Oud Wood and I like it on him (not on me) so I haven't tried other TF woody or leathery scents, mainly because I am into gourmands now. Smoky is great though, so this may be tempting. But maybe I would stick to Babycat? Also, I am now obsessed with niche houses, so ...

Interesting! I would have never expected Babycat. At least it's similar to a perfume that's kind of hard to get in the US... Often when I try new perfumes, I feel they are at least echoes of others. It's why I prefer smaller brands now, like Imaginary Authors, Gallagher, 4160 Tuesdays. Leather can quickly become a bit too much if it’s not blended with other bold notes that get to shine too. I do love Tom Ford’s White Suede and I would love to see new flankers for that one but it is older so I doubt they would make new flankers.
When I heard about this release and saw the mentions of cardamom and vanilla, I thought of Noir Extreme. Now that you mention YSL Babycat it seems like it's indeed going in that direction more or less. Curious to smell it when I find it somewhere.
fascinating! I wonder if the smokiness is coming from some of the new synthetic ouds. some of the ouds can be so leathery, some more berry like, some super woody and some smoky. I think some of the big synthetic houses are starting to make different oud chemicals. Will be interesting to see the ingredients list on this.
I am a bit disappointed since Tom Ford Fragrances often offer something original, even though it is not as great on the recent releases. But I didn’t expect that they release something similar to a well-loved fragrance 😕
