Frankly, I would prefer another no 9. But in my opinion, Arteta is likely to keep him in the starting squad regardless of what transpires in the transfer window.. I just hope we don't have to tradeoff a striker for a midfielder (vice versa)
Maybe it was the plan from the beginning you never know... I remember thinking to myself in October, if Arteta actually saw an opportunity to buy a striker under the 80-100m price tag (Although he tried to sell us this midfield idea at the time). Bare in mind the club always remind us about the difficulty to navigate the transfer market and the need to take advantage of opportunities when presenting itself. Some people will disagree but I personally think they never wanted to spend another 100m on a single talent after last summer spending with Declan Rice. They took a risk with Havertz but IF it work you have a 24yrs old striker, champions league winner for 65m. Gÿokeres and Isak both have bigger pricetag, with one playing for Coventry last season and the other is untouchable at Newcastle. Just a thought.
In the way he approaches the role I'd agree, just not quite the target man Giroud was and not the level of RVP of course but I get stylistically the approach is a mix of both
@@TheGoonerverse He has that link-up play and football IQ that's similar to both of those players, and obviously he is left footed. I remember Van Persie when he was younger, he played a lot behind the striker or on the wing. He developed into an elite striker later. Havertz is only 24 and I think he has the potential to be one of the best at that position.
ur spot on about his movement James. He may not be the most clinical but he always causes problems. Him at striker has great potential and fair play to him. So happy to see him playing well!
Havertz can float between a role as a target man and a ghost striker in that he constantly floats in spaces of opponents blind spots. He’s delicate with the ball but he actually is very strong and resilient, he has dog in him too. I’m seeing a side of Kai I’ve not seen his entire career including in Germany. We can’t compare him to anyone else because he’s so unbelievably unique. I was really wrong about him, I didn’t know we could get this quality from him personally.
It's hard to figure out how we have challenged all season with only one centre back on the bench. At times with no centre back on the bench when Kiwior is playing left back. Genius from Arteta.
@@MrAllenm94 exactly. If there was an injury at CB then Tomiyasu (or Zinchenko) comes in LB and Kiwior moves.. potentially Tomi at RB with White at CB, or even Tomiyasu at CB.. then there's RIce as well..even Partey when fit playing inverted RB at times. It actually is good squad building with lots of options, at least in defense.
IF he can work on his finishing(though he did strike a low clutch volley so sweetly(though direct at goalie considering the position it was struck from with his left foot in the Bournemouth game), n power behind his strikes, then we'd have some more goals from him. I am thinking, most importantly, this season was to get him up n running(have stagnated at Chelsea, n i say this with all the respect for the club). Suspect with a good pre-season, him settled, n beaming with confidence, he'll light up the EPL. Especially with the chemistry, coupled with the service of his teammates. I wouldn't say 30goals, BUT am thinking 20+ goals n 10-15assists(Total 30-35 goal contributions).
7 goals and 6 assists in all 10 pl games at striker. If he keeps this up he would be at around 30 goals and 25 assists for a season, and his best qualities are outside of product.
Arteta is becoming a visionary manager..he took kai for his qualities not obsessed by the position ...he looked at what we wanted upfront, not just that ...building his confidence was a bigger task which the whole understood and embraced ...now he plays with a smile and gritt.....in arteta we trust.
James, you talk about Havertz and his work rate........ on Sky Sports, Jamie Carragher was talking about our number 29, he praised his goal contributions but he highlighted Havertz's work rate. Havertz covers more distance than any other player in his position, he's number 1 in the entire Premier League. He regularly covers more than 11.5km per game.........which is unbelievable!!!
Our focus this summer should be signing a defensive midfielder. James, you should dedicate a video and do a deep dive into which players Arsenal should target for this role. One player I’ve thought about is Sofyan Amrabat
As good as havertz now in attacking & defensive phases of our play, imo he still needs to improve his finishing and tackling technique so he can be more efficient in front of goal and doesn't give fouls and get yellows when he tackles
I’d still like to see Kai taking more shots at goal….he always looks for Igbo pass… but shots are often palmed back to rummers coming in. His movement is great…. Doesn’t get offside like many do.
@@TheGoonerverseyer, I keep saying the same thing he needs to work on his striking of the ball(raw power, BUT also coupled with control) eg. his goal against Chelsea when he smashed it into the roof of the net.
Im so glad Havertz is getting his flowers i knew people judged him to harshly in the beginning of the season off his inconsistent performances in a chaotic Chelsea but Arteta saw his ability and selflessness. Jesus can hold up play but most times its so he can get himself in a better position. Havertz always looks for a player in a better position and has a spatial awareness to get himself into good runs. I see why Arteta thought he could work in midfield but his best position is in front because its to much to ask of him to do everything in attack and then instantly defend as well. Im glad Arteta encouraged him and later played him in his right position.
@James B pls can we get a detailed report on Kai this season? How many times did he play up front vs goals scored/involved in. I just read he has become the 5th player to register 20 PL goal involvments in his debut season. Also if he started every game for us up front what would you project his goals and assists to be roughly pls?
Jesus can run in behind the defense, he has done that plenty for city. The main difference is jesus is 5 9 while havertz is 6 4. Also havertz is more of a natural fslse 9 than jesus, case in point, when pep had a chance to play jesus as false 9, when aguero left, he didnt, and played him on the wing instead, preferring someone like Bernardo in false 9 role. I am not saying that havertz is a better player but he is probably better suited for the role. I knew since july that havertz will end up in false 9 role, but i didnt know that he is actually quite fast despite being 6 4, and has this run in behind feature, that's a positive surprise. I knew that he will be a false 9 bc it's just common sense, he is not a box to box midfielder so it was unlikely he d succeed there and the only other position suitable for his skillet in the current arsenal system is false 9. Also, every club he played for (amd national team) tried him in other positions before settling around striker role. Teta then went through the same process, which is silly but it is what it is. Now whether he ll be starting there is up to him to prove himself but arteta clearly has a favorite in that position it seems, and I am not arguing against it. Ultimately, arteta decides who starts and he seems pretty set at this point
Havertz has played very well but he has one major problem - unless it’s a tap-in or a close range header he simply CANNOT finish. We need a fast clinical striker - this deficiency will probably cost us the league (Aston Villa at home defeat - 18 shots, ZERO goals, West Ham at home defeat - 30 shots, ZERO goals).
Jesus does everything else but be a striker.. and we don't need all those things he does.. Havertz keeps it simple and does the basics, that's all Arsenal needs.. this is exactly why Pep played Zinchenko at 9 when Jesus was available.. Arteta should do the same and never play Jesus as the 9 again.. he's better off the wings
Kai is miles better than Jesus, the only thing Jesus does better is 1v1. Kai’s hold up play is better, so is his passing, his link play, he wins as many duels…..and He is miles more disciplined and calm, Jesus is positionally erratic, and ill disciplined and far far too chaotic. Kai is the superior player and it isn’t close.
Havertz's weakness is what G.Jesus offers. inability to turn on a dime when in the box. That said that quick decision to pass to saka which saka then missed. I would like to see more of that next season.
Not sure about that mate, Havertz for sure ain’t the flashiest of dribblers, but as his confidence has been growing he’s been becoming more and more efficient with the ball in his feet. At the same time, while Jesus has the ability, his decision making and the amount of times he’s overplayed a ball and killed off our attack this season has been ridiculous.
