I'm learning how to play DCS with the AV-8B. Since it's such a given that harrier pilots will use its special capabilities, it's been hard to find resources on CTOL, but most specially for conventional landing!
Thank you very much for making this video. I realise it's not a topic you'd choose to record, considering the plane, but you've been an immense help to this newbie.
At light weights, water injection is not needed you only have 90 seconds worth.
Save it for high ambient temp landings,
Combat loadout high ambient temp. takeoffs as needed per runway T.O. length requirements.
Temps, runway length, loadout, charts need to be sought for proper use of water injection needs.
Thanks, Cap. Pete.
Hi Cap great vid,
Has the breaking Nozzle been modelled in DCS as well? I used to work on Harriers, on conventional landings the pilot would rotate the nozzles forward to I think was 96.5 Deg and apply throttle to slow the aircraft. saves on tyres and brake wear.
edit just watched your STOL video it is in!
Thanks Cap...always love your videos, especially in my favorite DCS airplane. Would love to hear from the real Harrier pilots out there and how often they use a conventional takeoff-considering the harriers landing gear is a little spindly as far as speed goes...my understanding, I could be wrong, is that they mostly use short takeoffs and landings , using nozzles, to minimize runways speeds.
Full conventional landing ie nozzles at 0 was only used for nozzle failure from what I have read, otherwise most landings where at 60 degrees nozzle but there’s a lot of different landing configurations
Awesome 👍
Ya'll should do a "defend against the F-117" mission!
roger it's on the lost to do sometime
1. Why didn't you used the nosewheelbutton in cast mode?
2. I saw a vidio with a real harrier pilot and found it rather interesting that they never rotate just using the nosels to take of.
It's just what I've been told to do TBH
Actualy i first did it like in your video too, then i tried the just nosel thing and it works like a charme. @@grimreapers
I saw a video with the harrier pilot. The nozzles are how to do it!
Why du i have dejavu?
Tailstrike in a Harrier has the same probapility like in the Concorde. None. Because you have a Wheel at the end
And yet it has happened, so...
No vertical take off??
coming tomorrow Sir
Grim Reapers copy that.
talks too fast always clicking on things
