- I watched the 1991 film, King Ralph, starring John Goodman, Peter O'Toole, Richard Griffiths, John Hurt, Joely Richardson, Camille Coduri, and many others. The name of the film didn't tell me much, but I liked how they played the stereotypes of both the English and the Americans, that was a good comedic combination.
Original film: • King Ralph

Im glad you reviewed this. As somebody living in Britain, UK, etc, I thought you would appreciate it. Keep doing what you're doing.
@4:53 Those Bob Talbot whale and ocean photos in the background were massively popular. My sister had a few on her bedroom wall.
A really good John Goodman movie is ‘Matinee’ (1995). It’s one of my favorites.
Ralphs grandfather was the kings brother making him the kings great nephew hardly a "john doe" and thats a pretty solid claim too the throne in a situation like this
"My very dear friend Peter O'Toole, who is still my friend to this day, even though he has the bad taste to still be dead" - John Goodman
Its so neat to watch you point out breaches of english protocol. And yes, even though most of the Nordic countries are constitutional monarchies, Finland has a president. Neat video. Thanks.
Please Please PLEASE consider watching "Mermaids" starring the irreplaceable Cher and mesmerizing Winona Ryder. Thank you 💜💜
6:37 As was previously mentioned, he is descendant of the Stuarts, and he is angling to have his line restored to the monarchy, which would make him the Sovereign.
Hey it's Rosanne Bars sitcom husband Dan Connor.
He was doing the Roseanne Sitcom during the time he did this movie.
He portrayed Dan Connor from (1988-1997)
And he returned as Dan Connor in the 2018 revival of (The Connors)
From (2018-2020)
All together he played Dan Connor for 14 year's. What a legend and a goat.
Fun fact: he portrayed Fred Flintstone in the 1993 movie
(The Flintstones)
He is a Brilliant Actor
John Goodman also had an acting role as US president (albeit acting President via the 25th amendment) in the TV series "The West Wing".
6:34 That us Lord Graves. He wants to be king. Sol hes trying to get Ralph out.
While the claim hasn't be sought another line has been shown to have a stronger claim by blood going back several generations. The old castle was wrecked and family exiled. A researcher explored the line, also a like effort found the heir to the Isle of Mann. This show explored the idea of a nobody with the blood line being thrust forward. Highly unlikely but possible.
Love this film!!
In case you didn't see the opening,
the entire royal family is accidentally
electrocuted while posing for a family portrait,
which is why there's a search for an heir.
There's way more than that many in the line of succession.
I’ve just seen Icelandic horses for the first time. Holy cow.
LOL are you crazy? This film is great...The host said "I could see myself watching again if I nothing else to do" (or something like that)....I have seen this film at least 2 dozen times over the past several years, and God only knows how many "Partial" times when I run across it and it is already playing on T.V. I have 3 copies of the movie on CD and they are all nearly worn out....Such a great film...I first learned things about England when I was younger and started watching "are you being served?" had no idea what was so funny about some of the things they were laughing at but I kept watching it and "Benny Hill" on the PBS channel...and started learning what words meant and why what they were saying was so funny and a little at a time learning more about England and the People {of course I knew enough to know to check it out} but it made me Learn....(AND HAD FUN LEARNING IT) I even learned something new from King Ralph....(I NOW KNOW WHAT SPOTTED DICK IS) of course had heard it before but I had always though it was some kind of sausage...but NOW I KNOW AND IT IS DELICIOUS....
Yes I am an American I will always think that the movie King Raphael was funny and very interesting.
6:34 That us Lord Graves. He wants to be king. Sol hes trying to get Ralph out. He has a high position in Parliament. Cant wait to see what William does.
Well this is how many Americans preserve Kings. (IDK if its accurate or not) and the point of the movie was to have a guy wrong for the job try to do it.
You really do watch whatever the fuck you want? Mad respect.
You might like the Jimmy Stewart 1950 fantasy comedy Harvey.
Keep up the good with these movies you're reacting to Kat, take care
Ooh! For another American becomes royalty movie, check out Splitting Heirs (1993), with Rick Moranis, Eric Idle and John Cleese.
Phipps? Oh he was also played Mr Vernon Dudley in the Harry Potter movies.
It was weird seeing him in Potterverse as baddie, and Olivander(John Hurt) as a good guy.
Fun fact: Camille Coduri, who plays Miranda in this, was Rose Tyler in the David Tennant version of the BBC series Doctor Who. She's no Captain Jack Harkness or Gwen Cooper, but she does a good job in both I think.
"Nothing to Lose" - great buddy comedy!
Is Ralph and the showgirl a play on Philip and Camilla? Similar social backgrounds.
9:48 Neither does the House of Windham exist, nor the country of Zambezi.
Great movie. John Hurt rip is such an amazing actor. I never thought anyone would react to it. If you want another one that no one react to you should react to The World According To Gump.
Fun and ultimately sweet film. It had a well-performed Villain and a set of behind-the-scenes helpers. John The Buffoon Goodman keeps all fo that within his stage-presence and a good enough script to rise above it, too. He's been a participant in a good many favorite films since the mid-80s - which which I'd forgotten his role in most of those but when looking at his IMDB page, wow - dozens and dozens. It's been his leader-roles rather than the support ones where his efforts dimmed, I thought. But here again, in a rather ensemble cast, he delivers a good-enough performance. The film has held up for a few rewatchings, and this reaction is a reminder of the high points. Thanks, as usual.
No frickin' way...only about 30ish people died at the beginning...the line of succession goes WAY past that. Certainly nowhere near desperate enough to resort to an American commoner.
Joely Richardson is certainly not a man, and she doesn't even have a deep voice.
You can hear her voice is being distorted here, to make it similar to a man's voice (yet another stereotype: women from Central and/or Northern Europe are masculine, and have masculine voices).
Fun fact: something on the line of this movie happened in Scotland when the 10th Duke of Atholl, George Iain Murray, died childless in 1996. After years of searching for an heir, they found out that his distant cousin, John Murray, lived in South Africa, and travelled there to tell him he had inherited a castle (Blair Castle, one of Scotland's premier stately homes) with its very own railway station, an estate of approx. 120,000 acres, and a private army (the Atholl Highlanders, an infantry regiment of 100, which also includes a pipe band).
Isn’t that how t Georgians got there?
