The use of Star Board as a window sill is prefect ! Plus the use of space is funny to watch, I remolded the galley on our Carver 3607 Aft Cabin (tubber Ware boat) using our V berth...wife was amused but hey it works... hahaha

Thanks Tony, yes I'm rearranging things quite a bit. Fo'c'sle galley sounds great. Quite a few boats are set up that way.

I thought the word Fo'c'sle (forecastle) was a raised cabin for crew and only on ships. I believe the forward birth is called trunk cabin. Others just call it Vee-birth. Interesting idea on the galley being there.

It's slick Peter because it's really called Teflon impregnated nylon and used to realign the pad on a fifth wheel semi truck it's very slick and very tough but it work Wonderful you in your window I used it for bushings for my race car

Just subscribed and have seen most of the refit in no particular order. Very nice work and look forward to the completed project. The other boat threw me until it’s haul out. Cheers

Thank you Robert, yes, in retrospect I didn't really explain which boat was which all that clearly. Lots of work coming on both boats.

Very nice work. Just a couple of questions. Was the 10 degree slope enough to keep the water running off? Did the windshield wiper keep water from entering between the panes? does water get stay in the sliding pane track? are there any pictures of the window installed? Again very nice work

Hi, the window has worked out very well, I'll show an update to it soon as I redo the upper helm.

By analysis the world wants 10 mins or so but as long as theyre as interesting as this 25+ is fine, at least by me, however...
so what you need to figure out is (and by proxy my advice) is this better served by 2 episodes
and note that in the utube world there are advantages to that for yourself. views likes etc ..
ok all that said, technical issues aside, your on screen presence and logical presentation is first class
and the work itself is a very high standard
    have a good one

It's very interesting and timely you mention that. I have been considering publishing two episodes a week. This would allow me to present a main DIY episode and another that might stray in content a bit. However I expect RUclips will punish me for that as I'll have some videos that aren't as popular and my watch time will suffer. As I understand it RUclips is using watch time per view as it's main metric. I suffered quite badly when I posted a short video and my watch time plummeted. Hmmm, pondering.

I can see you have been trying to start and complete tasks all in one video. While thats very logical Im just not sure the average watcher is quite that dedicated
So Id be inclined to mix them in with each other, that is a bit of both in each video.
You can see in your publishing notes how many finish watching each video, you could analyse how many by topic and the percent completed to see what works best for you.
So if you had something to say, rather like writing a report, the intro says what you are going to do. In this way there arent any nasty surprises and people are aware it will get back to the topic after a brief interlude or escape into what isnt so popular. In that way theyre encouraged to hang in there.

Great job on the custom window! I have a question after looking at the ceiling in your boat and a couple of other vintage boats that I have viewed lately. I have a 1970 Grand Banks trawler, the main cabin ceiling is covered with regular material just like in a car. I was contemplating removing the material (also to do some re-wiring) and thought I wouldn't replace it but paint the ceiling white and depending on what the ribs were made of stain them to offset the painted ceiling. My question is, I have a small stove to heat the cabin. If I do not replace the material do you think that condensation might drip down from the ceiling while using the cabin heater? Would the material prevent that from happening by trapping the heat and creating an insulating air barrier? I am no builder that's for sure and I trust your opinion. You are doing an amazing job on your old boat! I wait eagerly every week for a new instillation and I can't figure out for the life of me why you don't have many thousands viewers? Are there just that few of us wood boat enthusiasts out there? Please keep doing what you're doing as I am learning a lot and getting some great ideas too!!

Hi, thanks for the kind words, your boat is surely a beauty.
You are very right, the "headliner"' or overheads in boat speak performs a few tasks, one being exactly what you describe. If the warm humid air can't get to the cool underside of the deck it won't condense. That being said, this same protection can sometimes be the culprit of causing some grief by the same means. If humid air does pass into the airspace above the headliner is will surely condense and be trapped as moisture in the cavity possibly causing a pile of grief. The solution isn't nessisarily carefully sealing off this space because there will certainly be some moisture building up from various sources and without ventilation that's trouble. The option is providing good ventilation to limit moisture buildup at the risk of causing it by allowing humid air up there. The common solution is adding insulation to the bottom of the deck so that there is no cool surface to condense on. In my case, the decks are thick enough wood and the expected cruising climate mild enough that condensation is minimal. Perhaps you are equally blessed, the joy of wooden boats. What you're planning sounds very nice, perhaps a slight modification by adding a little foam insulation and some overhead wood or such between the beams. I like the look of exposed beams with the deck above.
Best of luck, I'm sure it will be amazing whatever you do.

The ceiling of a wooden boat for some reason is the boards on the inside of the hull ribs, anything over your head is the overhead. Same goes for the floors, they are the blocks tying your ribs and keelson together and what you walk on is the sole. The biggest contributor of moisture to the interior is burning propane. Insulation on a wooden boat is asking for trouble. The only well insulated boats are foam core fiberglass ones. Good counter bores are milling bits, l have them up to 3”. Delrin is only good for a few years, gets brittle and cracks from the sun, especially if you don’t overbore the screw holes. An oily wood like teak or angaleck would be better.

You be forgiven for that plastic :) Technical advantages are to be used, I think. Not always, but mostly. 70 years back, they just didn't have that many sorts of materials, otherwise they woudl have used it anyway...... Good job!

What's the point in only having one piece of glass? You can never actually "shut" the window.
