Jackie never went to Canberra as a child. He was abandoned in Hong Kong's Peking Opera Academy when his parents immigrated when he was 7 and he did not go to see them in Australia until he left the school at the age of 17. He was at the mercy of Master Jim Yuen for ten years while his parents built a life for themselves without him 3,000 miles away in another country.
