  • Nine-time MotoGP champ Valentino Rossi remembers his tense rivalry with teammate Jorge Lorenzo and compares it to the infamous Formula 1 feud between Mercedes F1 teammates Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg. Rossi describes an especially hard moment with Lorenzo at Barcelona in 2009 and initial frustrations when Lorenzo joined as a Yamaha teammate in 2008. Later, Rossi recalls the validation of winning his first race after moving from Honda to Yamaha and silencing doubters who claimed his Honda bike was mostly responsible for winning three MotoGP championships in four years.

I think also at this point Rossi knew he had help Yamaha build the best bike on the grid and knew Lorenzo would be very very fast on it right away.
It would be interesting to get a little more insight as to what happened at Ducati, Seemed like Ducati didn't want to make the changes Rossi was asking for at the time, and I think Rossi knew to ride around those problems on the track could cause great physical harm and at this point in his career he wasn't going to do that. Also I think it really open Rossi's eyes as to just how good a rider Stoner is.

Less competitive teammate means more resources will be pooled to you. Imagine if Hamilton had joined Ferrari, Rosberg might be 4-5 times WC, since he’s the 2nd fastest man on the grid for a few years in a row. Because Hamilton is slightly faster than Rosberg, he got most of the attention from the team. It’s not a coincidence that once they swap team personnel, Rosberg won that championship. Being the 2nd driver gives you quite a bit of disadvantage in the team.

Secondly, despite his successes, Rossi has remained an overwhelming people’s favourite and invariably comes across as a humble, nice guy.
