Bet this will be ready before Starkeys 200sx !!
Still think you should do a "Bwackets!" shirt and have proceeds go toward this build.
I'd buy that shirt!
If it's going on track you'll want a clockwise motion sump baffle with a k20 aluminium sump (assuming OEM sump can fit in the car) and tractuff rwd baffle that bolts to the oil pump, good to see some honda on driftworks, also just rev it to 8k on the stock k24 valve springs+ boost, I run similar setups with good success
Please keep filming this build
I havent seen a k24 lexus is200 yet, i think that would be a cool build, craig never disappoints with his mad engine swaps, love it.
I love the way he just gets on with it, no fuss.
Craig should have his own Build series!
Awesome idea, previously helped building one with a 1jz, in the process of one with a turbo mx5 engine and good friend building one with an sr20.
Anymore info on the 1jz one?
Going to be some fun next year on track with all these k24 turbo cars in various chassis popping up 😎
Quick thank you Craig staff and respective family have a cracking xmas stay safe ! Thank you for keeping me sane this year much appreciated for the epic builds long may it continue looking forwards to following on in 2022! 👍🏻
Tell Craig that Unit2 Fab makes a very nice oil pan for the K24 and that G-Rom makes a module to keep the steering working like oem on swapped cars.
The gearbox / clutch / flywheel situation is a bit of a pain. Currently doing exactly the same and using the rx8 box, standard Honda flywheel and cover plate etc, and rx8 clutch center with Honda friction to match cover assembly. Biggest issue is spacing from gearbox input shaft - you'll need to space the standard flywheel out and run an automatic flex plate as the ring gear -at the crank before spacer - to use the K series starter motor. No way of using the rx8 gearbox mounted starter motor with the k series flywheel I'm afraid!
Or if you're feeling particularly special, why not just 2x smart car "Startenators" and avoid the need for a bell housing / ring gearbased starter motor.... 😂
s2k ap1 gear box will be a better option IMO,stronger,better shifting feel,and similar weight&size as rx8 6 speed
and there's several adapter kit out there, I believe gear& gasoline's k swapped rx7, and asm's s2k are using the same combo( superk s2000 now has a dct box but just saying)
Looking forward to following this build!
Might be worth jumping on the Facebook group for kswapped honda s2000's, plenty of info for you regards baffling. Plenty of s2000's with k24 swaps around now
You will need a timing chain baffle too as you will lose oil up there under hard braking, I believe the clockwise sump baffle for the actual sump though is about the best
Might be worth porting the k20 oil pump while you are here, it's it's free mod which helps reliability at the higher rpm's, you might not need it but its free and why not!
Cool project! Can't wait to see more! 🤙
I’ve done the pump , need to do some looking into the baffle side , I’ve made a few over the years that work well so think I have it covered ( I hope )
Well now I know why you popped up on the RX8 FB page. Look forward to seeing this. Also, I feel the Velocity Red pain. Matching it is a nightmare. So I didn't bother.
These things spin bearings when installed longitudinally so baffling the sump is a must. They also lean back (transverse) or to the right (longitudinally) in stock form. Grab a 50 degree vtc gear as well.
Keen to see the outcome! - dream build for a jdm fanboy like me!
Absolutely love this build I've wanted to do it myself since I was 13 and I have sketches of plans and breakdowns of the build from when I was 14, still haven't gotten round to it in the past 5/6 years
Type s oil pump and 50 degree cam is a must
Will this be offered as a package service in the future?
Awesome! part way through the same conversion.
Brilliant ! A new build for our Craig 👍🏻😂
Another class dyno torque job love the attention to detail nice one Craig
Always great to see a new project! Would be keen to get a video on the tools/ brands you guys use on all these builds.
Nice project and look forward to seeing this build 👍
Have you plugged the oil port at the bottom of the engine for better oil pressure or doesn’t it matter going turbo? I’d recommend changing the bearings aswell.
Excited to see how this build goes. really interested myself with a k24 rx8. A great combo
Craig is the legend
"He's not fat... Nah he's a giant not Starkey" 😭😂
Few Porsche's in there, love to see more :)
I’m in the process of putting a k24 in a mk3 mr2 and hopefully will end up with a turbo on the stock engine so will be watching this build with great interest. My friend trial fitted a k20 in an rx8 but the firewall need lots of chopping to get it in.
I K20'd my mk3 mr2 :)
e30 now this :D cool winter projects going on. Love seeing what's going on over at Dyno Toruqe too, like the British version of skid factory frankenstein cars together awesome stuff cheers Jay!
Alan and Woody are the Aussie Craig and Jay!
That looks like the adaptor plate we tried to use which tried to mount the engine vertical and had to be remade to suit the slant
I shoulda watched longer before commenting 😂
Ian at clockwise in Bromsgrove is the man for these and advice. Great guy local and usually has the parts in stock.
They were pretty unhelpful when I called them. May have been a bad day....
After all the effort that went into the MX5, it's only fair that Nate has the good grace to get shorter so he fits. Definitely easier than building a new car lol
Well this came out of nowhere, be interesting to see the result!
Gonna be following this build closely 😉. I’m using the same setup, if you take the bellhousing off the box can you do a video how it comes off so I’ll know when I come to do mine 😂
Awesome work Craig.
Skunk2 do a magnesium rocker cover which sits lower that might save you chopping I have one on order just now
As a Boosted Boiz fan, I approve this message. 😆
Did you see the latest this vs that on hoonigan? They showed a montage of cars they've got on this time and the mr2 was in there
@@Matty.Hill_87 Yes and also a small clip of 2JP
Supercharged rx8 set up right for the track would be good I think and maybe abit more driveable powerband...
What year mx5 rack did you use if you dont mind, im really interested in knowing more about that because i wanna ditch the electric steering on mine and bmw racks in rebuildable condition here in America are still pretty pricey at times.
Excellent love RX8 well with engine swaps, looking forward to this project 👍🏻
Rover had some really clever stuff but cut corners/budget. Im saying no more, you guys already know 💪🏻🤘🏻💪🏻
Awesome build, going to be mint.
So that's what he bought another one of our billet RX8 throttle body flanges for the other day. I bet it gets welded on that Skunk manifold!
I'm really looking forward to seeing this build lucky man😎
Yeah, I looked at doing something like this for a track car but to get around 50/50 weight distribution required setting the engine so far back that the firewall would need to be seriously chopped. The RX8 has a great chassis, too much front weight would spoil it.
Looks interesting build will be following👍
Do you gap the pistons to boost it to 400bhp Craig, or are you just leaving the ring gaps stock?
Pre tax RX8s seem to be running thin on the ground these days. Rust seems to an issue too which isn't great but I'd love an rx8.
Nate is a lucky boy 👍
Do you need to modify the rack to get a k20+ lump in?
Tw works in America do a beautiful sump for the k24/k20 rwd , do a few for ae86 e30 and s13 might be worth an email to them guys, as they are pre baffled and have provisional bungs for the turbo drain
Handle bar bracing! hahaha mint.
K24 oooooh boi that’s potentially gonna be rowdy
Do yourself a favor and upgrade the rods and pistons now. While a stock K-Series can make 1000HP at high RPM, they like to blow up if you make too much mid-range power. Seeing as how you intend to track these cars, you might as well save yourself the headache/heartache.
Look up Taylor Ray on RUclips, as he recently completed a turbo K-Series Cefiro. He was warned by his tuner about boost coming on too soon right before it catastrophically exploded.
Was just about to type about Taylor Ray's fire there.
The gearbox will die before the engine does
After bouncing off the rev limiter for ages
I have a new plan for the gearbox !! , and will have good boost control ( watch this space !!)
curious to see how you guys fit the engine into the firewall
surprised you didn't use the 2.5 duratec like you did in the mx5. handle boost. bolt right in. use mx5 flywheel and clutch kit etc.. save alot and easily can do 400whp!
This is going to be an interesting one!
Look into the KWorks sump kit they make for K24/K24 motors to rwd cars like the s13/s14. Not sure if theyve developed anything for the rx8 but its worth looking into.
Also, has Starkey paid up yet?
No he hasn’t !!!!
Highly recommend talking to clockwise motion motorsport for anything on the engine, the top guy to speak to on these. Based just off junction 4 of the M5 so not far from you guys
Great idea!
Love it , legend
Now this is going to be a good one
I’d like to learn the in depth of the mx5 power steering conversion over the electric.
unless jay whacks a turbo on his e30 then he'll be doing the chasing not leading, come on jay get it turbo'd! there are plenty of rhd off the shelf turbo kits now for relatively cheapish, couple of them are in the uk too.
Take the inlet studs off and just bolt, will make it easier if you ever need too take off 😂
look into the difference is K20 and K24 . i think the K20 would be a better option for this set up .
Throw some rods and pistons into it, a guy called Taylor Ray In the states did a similar build with a Nissan cefiro and after a couple of drift days beating the brakes off it Rodney exited the block
pretty sure Hert from Hoonigan did the same in his k24 s13
People hear "they can make 600hp" and assume that makes 500 safe. They don't consider it's an engine with a long stroke revving high, making lots of power. All with an open deck aluminium block.
They're a great engine, don't get me wrong. But some people demand too much from them
After being road tuned and bounced off the Rev limiter for ages
Yeah I watch Taylor. Craigs not going for that kind of power (Or hammering the limiter for 30 seconds at a time)
@@driftworks that's true, I didn't take into account Craig wouldn't be driving it like a massive chav 😂😂
Cracking engine in a well built car - what’s not to love?
The RX8 has a j160 trans as well right? Where did craig get the adaptor plate and how is he going to deal with the starter being on the wrong side? Always though the K series would be a great match for the IS200 which also has a j160
Theres a guy on ebay/facebook that does rx8 gearbox adaptors for quite a few different engines. Hes based in Wales.
Different bellhousing, same trans.
@@nick_cooper The starter looks even worse positioned on the RX8 bellhousing, at the bottom!
I’ve got a new plan for the gearbox
That's a nice build, you should gather some great informations on the Keep gunnin's youtube channel. Greetings
Does craig do work on bikes? Im in need of someone to aluminium weld some custom brackets on my subframe??
In an earlier vid Craig explains that he started as a bike tuner.
He prefers not to nowadays I think.
Do you still have AC with a k24 swap?
Need to watch Jimmy oaks he's just put one into q s14
The similar project was done by akii
Would you not consider 3576?
It took me 11 years and over 200K aud$ but I finally have my RX8 GT (R3) Renesis Turbo making over double stock power reliably on pump fuel....
Blown 7 engines, three different turbos/setups and a million different fuel systems... many, many other revisions.
It makes another 30% atw on E85...
So I have proven an engine swap is not necessary.... And the Rotary will always sound better as a bonus.
I'm not anti Honda, I was a Honda mechanic because I love Honda... Just not in a Mazda Rotary.
kswap the world 🤘
Tf works for a sump they do a rwd one I have one on my ae86
Ring gap the pistons !! That’s how stock bottom ends hold
He doesn't mess about
is craig gunna get all the dash and ancillary's working with it or not as its a track thing?
Pretty sure he said with the emerald ecu it talks to all the canbus stuff so it should all work. Unlike a hondata.
IIRC he says in the vid that they have the Emerald ECU dialled for these cars (he's done many LS RX8s) So the dash will work.
summer out side?
Be cool to see you do a mad retro Volvo build.
No chance, they all just need to get in the bin where they belong 😂
Very cool, 😎👍
Is Craig using a custom oil pan, or is he going to make his own?
I think I’m going to alter the std one ?
Check out Togue Factory for rwd honda conversions.
That’ll be a great car
500 bhp with out opening it up these engine will become very popular soon!herts 86 is proof they can handle the boost 👍🏻
Hopefully the rods stay in this block.
You had to film in there when my Exocets not in … it’s in most of the time 😂🤦🏼♂️
Where's the ad listing for the MX-5?
It's gone already. This was filmed a few weeks ago.
Wonder this build on a GT86 . Better chassis for the engine in my opinion .
Other than the base car being over 10 times the price.
@@SB-vb8ch Maybe the result can be 10 times better too no?
Inferior suspension layout and no stiffer chassis is better how?
10 times better? Depends how you quantify it I guess. RX8 is basically a stretched MX5 platform which is pretty decent, the mods & cage will make it better for track use & the big bonus of not having an expensive base car to replace if the worst should happen & it gets destroyed. Pay your money & take your choice.
Have you got your money out of Starky yet?
Nope !! He’s a tight arse !!
He’s trying to weasel out on a technicality
Sounds like Craig is housing a swarm of cicadas in his garage!
Maybe he moved his workshop to Spain
It's not an LS/LT engine. I'm confused.
Me too man, I thought Craig had been abducted and replaced or something when I saw the video title
He's finally changed his mind, doesn't want to weigh this one down 😛
He's just into trying new stuff, and as mentioned in the vid, LS Gearboxs that actually hold the power are super expensive.
@@driftworks looking forward to the build. I badly want to k-swap an old merc.
dont ya mean
CWaigs new K24 Tuwbo Swap Mazda WX8 TWack Caw Build
sorry craig i had to
Should just bin the turbo idea and fit a k20 head, fit throttle body's and let it scream.
Not a super heavy car but wants some torque to go with the revs!
@@SB-vb8ch yea I suppose but it's just a break from the norm.
Might be worth messaging Kyle from boostedboys… him and his buddies know just about everything there is to know about Hondas
na they know how to blow them up
Would check akii....( gunner) he did a similar build since year
How does this affect the 50/50 chassis balance?
Honda K is all alloy & the rotary motors aren't as light as many think once all the ancils are factored in. This should be fairly close on.
@@SB-vb8ch Fully dressed Renesis is 125kg, K20 is 50kg on top of that.
Rotaries are very light. Not sure where you got your information from.
From pulling them out when they are broken! Even if 125kg is accurate then it's still not light....not for what it actually delivers. To go back to the original weight distribution question though using your numbers an extra 50kg in the front would mean approx 1.5% over the front (51.5/48.5) but in practice will be mostly offset by relocation of the battery to the rear plus moving everything else back that can be & removal of unnecessary weight which will most likely be more than the 50kg you've mentioned. That's where I get to the original statement of it most likely ending up fairly close to the stock balance.
@@SB-vb8ch So by that same logic because a K series has been weighed, then they also break...
And these same weight distribution changes can't be made in the car with a Renesis?
It also isn't just weight in front of the center line. K20 is longer and taller, adding key mass to polar moments.
No it won't be likely more than the 50kg difference. You only made that statement out of pure ignorance. You made it up, plain and simple.
I really don’t care about the ‘ rotary is light / 50/50 thing as I’ve done many many ls swaps etc and I can say 100% the extra power- torque makes more difference than weight difference !! , it’s funny how adding a torno and Intercooler etc to a rotary is ok ( it all weights ) but you can’t put a piston engine in without making it terrible 🤔, it’s just a car with four wheels at each corner etc it will be fine 👍👍, I will be taking a lot of weight out anyway so who knows what it will end up at , we’ll it will be a fun car 😁
