Diablo 2, red alert: yuri's revenge, the sims 1, battle realms, gta: san andreas and counter strike. These games really screams early 2000's nostalgia.

As well as old MMORPGs like Runescape, WoW and Silkroad.
1995 uptill 2010 had some of the best and most memorable games, imo. Nowadays, games do not seem to have as much "soul?"
Man youve written my favorite games, both battle realms and red alert 2 have amazing soundtracks
I will never forget this part of my life....Where school wasn't important and where Diablo was this huge world back then and where I thought this game had the best graphics. Wow nostalgia...
I think it still beats D3 in terms of graphics. There's something to be said about the bleak, subdued detailed pixel art in D2.
I still live there
Bro I still think this game has the best graphics.
lol parts are nostalgia and parts arent, and people have a lot of trouble trying to distinguish between them. I think D2 is legitimately maybe the best arpg ever made to this day even if you factor in the end game is lacking.
@@wildwest1832 It deserves a spot in the top ten games of all time next to Half Life 2, Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy. I call it Blizzard's Age of Plastic. Everything they make now is made of plastic. It looks bright and shiny but has no real substance to it. Diablo 3 cinematics are amazing as blizzard's cinematics have always been, but the dialogue throughout the game play is middle school writing level.

Oh god, the mysticism of first starting Diablo II and hearing this music.
Beautiful, gaming is missing guys like Matt Uelmen.
Have you checked "Torchlight" OST? It sounds exactly as Diablo III shoud have...
d3vak Right, I forgot he made TL, but honestly, I didn't enjoy the music in this game as much as the DIablo 2 OST.
Diablo 2 might have been the peak of his creative ability.
d3vak Well, it sounds exactly like D2. Matt Uelman's is very good, excellent even, but his stuff tends to sound similar to itself.
Joshua King that's kind of the point of having your own style. It's an identifier.
Indeed it is. Uelmen and for example Jeremy Soul, really know how to give games, that they write music for, a true spirit and great atmosphere.

You're a damn legend mate!
Diablo 2 > Diablo 3
+Wocke All the way. I was EXTREMELY excited for Diablo 3 because I absolutely love Diablo 2, one of my favourite games of all time, and then Diablo 3 got released and I was like, "wtf is this??!!"
I enjoyed the first playthrough of Diablo 3, second, not so much. Diablo 2 I played through so many times, at least 3 times with each class, even more with my favourite classes.
+Wocke The axiom...
This is the game when I like the pixels and the gameplay
I doubt anyone can create another game like Diablo 2. I'm no expert so I cant explain but this game has something that most games do not.
Indeed... I played A LOT of hardcore D3, but Diablo 2 I played so much more, was so much more fun and had much of the feel of the original...D3 was found lacking...
I am proud to be of age that's almost exactly as old as this piece, and the game it's from. Being born at the end of '98, and having a nerdy grandpa, I was introduced to this game when I was only 5-6 years old, got to play it on my own pc at age 7. Never forget those days. Ever.
I grew up playing this game alongside other legends of a game, but this is definitely the one that shaped my tastes most. Gothic style, dark, fantasy, melancholic, epic, a tale of development and earned, deserved victory. For music, Diablo uses literally that 3 genres I'm grown to, being classical, other times acoustic, and then rock/metal. Big part of my personality originates here... that's why I always shed tears hearing this music even after 14 years, though I never really stopped to listen to it/play the game in the first place.
To this day, I enjoy playing Diablo 2 and 3 with friends and relatives, but it's mostly D2 for obvious reasons I've read so far. Granda still, to this day, asks me to go and play with him, although he does like D3 more, sheer reason being that it's never and more polished, pleasures the eye more.
To all to you, who might have that parent, grandparent, heck, if you are from younger generations, that grand-grandparent, that played this game, go and enjoy some nostalgia together, while you can!
I don't know why this interested you so much that you've read this far, as this is merely my train of thought while listening, but I thank you for joining in it. I ask and wish you a great day!
in early 2000s my stepdad wasn't a nerd, but he had a son of 11 years old, so he had a computer in his basement and in his office, so I would play diablo and star wars in both computers.. good old times, I was 6 - 7, so this track bring memories of that peace when I was still living in northern spain
I was born 95 and my dad used to play Diablo and D2. He also introduced me to StarCraft. My uncle used to play SC and WC2 and WC3. Oh man Blizzard was a blessing and we were lucky to grow up with that as kids. I too tear up and cry sometimes just remembering how good it was. Like you I would play D2 with my Dad. He would get the whole family to join in and we'd play LAN. I even set up a gaming club at my High school and we'd play WC3 despite how "dated" it was.
@@SeanKula then WoW came and the old Blizzard, including the greatness it produced was gone forever...
@@steve8450 Yep, RIP Blizzard. :(
Now that Diablo 2: Resurrected has been out for some time… what was the reaction between you and your grandpa? I think they did a masterful job of remaking it, and I actually prefer it over the vanilla version… despite the fact that I grew up playing said vanilla version.

hahahaha im sure a lot of Diablo 2 fans have similar stories. I was 10 or 11, I have no idea where I got my Diablo 2 from but it definitely was pirated and cracked, my 9 year old cousin and me would take turns playing it while the rest of our family went to church. Little did they know we were the true guardians of Earth keeping hells demons at bay.

I am Akara, High Priestess of the Sisterhood of the Sightless Eye.
I welcome you traveler to our camp, but I'm afraid I can offer you but poor shelter within these rickety walls. You see, our ancient sisterhood has fallen under a strange curse. The mighty citadel from which we have guarded the gates to the east for generations has been corrupted by the evil demoness Andariel. I still can't believe it, but she turned many of our sister rogues against us and drove us from our ancestral home. Now the last defenders of the sisterhood are either dead or scattered throughout the wilderness.I implore u stranger, please help us,find a way to lift this terrible curse and we will pledge our loyalty to you for all time.
There is a place of great evil in the wilderness. Kashya's rogue scouts have informed me that a cave nearby is filled with shadowy creatures and horrors from beyond the grave. I fear that these creatures are massing for an attack against our encampment. If you are sincere about helping us, find the dark labyrinth and destroy the foul beasts. May the Great Eye watch over you.

I come back to this theme from time to time. It's a small remembrance of my childhood. Simple times as a kid snuggled up in a blanket on the weekend getting absorbed by this dark atmosphere. How I miss those days now
I love the Tristram theme. But this is better!
Back when Blizzard's games wasn't casual.
This gives me shivers.. Diablo 2 will always be with me
3:01 Every time I portal into town
God... the part from 3:40 ~ 4:04 is SO soothing for me. It's just inexplicably beautiful. The underlying bass strings provide a perfect foundation for such a somber tune, and the way that acoustic guitar glistens and glides so effortlessly and caressingly all along the top of this piece... it just makes me feel so at peace with the earth. Matt Uelman is fucking amazing.
yes we agree look for my comment from one year ago i said pure genius and i was thinking the same thing u said, it went over the head of many many players imo because its just too smooth its unbelievable.
Completes normal: "Well that was hard, I wonder if nightmare is hard..."
Me enters nightmare with all the gear: "With this gear I will be invincible!"
Me enters cold plains... Cries like a girl running away into the waypoint.
I always liked how part of this at 3:45 has the underlying dark theme, but with broken bits of other acoustic themes along with it.
It fits well with the starting camp - the characters are the remains of their community and culture, trying to survive and carry on in the darkness. Around them are the broken memories of the lands they occupied, now a tainted, inhospitable wilderness.
You never live off the music when you play the game. You live off it when you hear it years ahead, and nostalgia kicks you in the teeth.
The Tristram theme is great and all but this is just perfection...
To me nothing beats tristram theme, however this one is a perfect sequel to D1 classic.
